The Music Under the Stars series continues with reggae-soca band
Upstream. The band Upstream, whose members include two sons
of the venerable inventor of Soca music, the late Ras Shorty I, was
formed in the republic of Trinidad & Tobago in 1989. They relocated to Southern California in the early nineties and made a name for
themselves performing in numerous venues, events and festivals,
throughout California and Western States. Their energetic eclectic
style of Reggae and Soca has earned them a formidable appellation

Our “Tropical” theme will be showcased with delicious food and
upbeat music such as Surf, Hawaiian, Caribbean, Jamaican, Reggae and more! Bring your lawn chairs and relax as we entertain
you with live bands, special shows, mouth-watering tropical foods,
kids’ rides, booths and displays! It’s a family affair and we’ll have
plenty of fun activities for the kids. Performing on Saturday are
Kaleo, Pan on D Run, Mai Tais, and Soup Papa. Performing on
Sunday are Pirates from the Pacific, Yoki Daiko, Island Rhythms,

Presented by the Oxnard Downtowners, this award-winning,
family-friendly festival features many of Southern California’s
most electrifying salsa and Latin bands, non-stop salsa dancing,
marketplace shopping, the spicy Salsa Tasting Tent, international
foods, Kids Korner activities, a recipe contest and salsa dance performances. Festival admission and parking are free. No pets or
coolers are permitted on-site. This year, the celebration begins
early with a new Friday Night Kick-off Concert (paid concert) on
July 29, featuring the Susie Hansen Latin Band, playing from 7
p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets for the Friday night concert lawn seating are
$5 per person and can be purchased on-site. Groups of six can preorder reserved tables for $75 on the festival website. Come early to
dine in downtown Oxnard, or bring a picnic to enjoy al fresco. The
gates open at 5:30 p.m. The Festival Main Stage entertainment runs
continuously from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Performing are Orquesta Charangoa, Angel Lebron y Su Sabor Latino, Orquesta Son Mayor, Phil Robinson and Sonora Borinquena
(pictured left), the Janeen Puente Orchestra (pictured right), and
Orquesta Tabaco y Ron. “Dancing with Our Community Stars” will
be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. In this salsa-twist on the hit TV show,
local “stars” are paired up with the region’s best salsa instructors
