CANTON OF STORMWALL
Midsummer’s Night
As the SCA enters its 51st year, the Barony of Hawkwood invites you to travel to its scenic
western mountains, and take a step back in time. Evoking the simple backyard BBQ that started
the SCA, the proposed Canton of Stormwall is pleased to offer you their Midsummer Novice
Picnic!
There will be plenty of activities throughout the day for the newcomer to veteran. Marshal
activities will include armored, rapier, cut & thrust, youth, and thrown weapons. A&S competitions
and classes will be ongoing, and an Artisan’s Row to display all talents (please contact the
autocrat if you wish to teach or display). While there is no feast planned, we will have a potluck
picnic. (See below for more info.)
Please come help show off all that the SCA has to offer and relax among friends while we share
our Dream.
A Midsummer Novice Picnic – Arts and Science Competition:
“The Novice Row- A Midsummer’s Delight “
Are you new to the Society of Creative Anachronism? Do you enjoy observing the Arts &
Sciences and still consider your work as novice? Do you say to yourself – “I cannot enter that
A&S Competition. I’ve have just begun “. Well then – this competition is for you. We shall have
two separate criteria’s for this competition as follows:
1.
If you are new to a specific medium for under the period of one year which follows
the Guidelines of the Kingdom Arts & Science categories.
2.
If you are new to the SCA and have been a member less than two years and
desire to submit in a category which follows the Guidelines of the Kingdom Arts &
Science categories.
Research will be required with your submission as this will assist you in your Society career as
you seek to expand your Artistic or Scientific skills by competition in the Kingdom.
These categories will be judged using the Kingdom of Atlantia Arts and Science judging form. (A
copy will be available for your review.) The List of acceptable categories meeting the current
MOAS categories will be available for your review on this site.
Artisan’s Row – For those who wish to display their favored techniques and treasured items – an
Artisan Row will be set up for your display. This will assist any Newcomers in seeing the varied
and treasured arts and sciences that they could consider as a medium as they enjoy a
membership in the Society.

YIS,
Baron Ronan Baroness Muriele
Greetings from your Baronial Quartermaster!!
As brought up in the business meeting in June, we are beginning to compile an inventory of the Barony's
belongings. If you have something of baronial property, be it banners, regalia, etc. please email me at
[email protected] and let me know who has what!
This is merely to make sure we know where everything is at so we don’t purchase duplicates and can
track down what might go missing.
In Service,
Malik ibn-Da'ud al-Rawandi Baronial Quartermaster
Greetings Hawkwood!
The new Barony of Hawkwood Google Group is set up and I have sent invitations everyone who is on
the Yahoo Group.
If you haven't received the invitation, or if you prefer to use another email address, please feel free to
email me. Alternatively, I can add your email address directly which might be easier for you.
You do not have to have a Gmail email account to access the group.
This will be the official group for our Barony going forward. I have started the process of creating a
calendar and the new website, but I am still working on these items.

The Hawkwood Guard
Wants You!!
The realm of Hawkwood is a beautiful land, enclosed by mountains, on the border of the Kingdom,
ever ready to repel invaders. This is not dissimilar to the lands of the Swiss or other people of the Rhine,
where the mountains provided protection from neighboring forces. From these lands came an elite group of
guards who served in courts all over Europe and are still in use today. As tribute to that tradition, we bring
you: The Hawkwood Guard.
Our purpose is to serve our barony by providing security during Baronial court. There are times we will
escort Their Excellencies to official engagements or may be tasked with guarding the Royalty or emissaries (at
the behest of their Excellencies of course) when they are within our lands.
In keeping with historic practices there are conditions which must be met before one may be
considered for the Guard:
 He or she must be a resident of Hawkwood. This is likened to the Swiss Guard, where non- Swiss are
forbidden to join.
 Approaching their majesties armed requires one to be of the nobility, thus he or she must have an
Award of Arms.
 He or she must be an authorized combatant in the disciplines of either Armored or Rapier Combat. It is
the role of a guard to be able to defend by force those he or she is guarding. The duty of serving as
guards in our society falls on the practitioners of these disciplines.
If you are interested in serving in our ranks, please contact Lord Klaus Jäger at: saintlylokiATyahoo.com or
Lord Gilbert de Châtillon at: gilbertdechatillonATgmail.com
Dates to Remember
Since you all deserve the same care I provide to my newcomers, here's a list

Hawkwood Baronial Birthday
For Love and Friendship
Court Report
Morning Court:
On the bright and sunny morn of Hawkwood’s 12th Baronial Birthday, Ronan and Muriel, Baron and
Baroness of Hawkwood opened their court after the Royal business of his Majesty King Dietrich, and her
Highness Princess Alyna had been completed.
Their Excellencies first called forth Lady Adaira inghean Makyswell, whom was still recovering from her
joyful elevation to nobility, and awarded her their Baronial Award of Excellence for her service to
Hawkwood.
Continuing in that manner, Lord Roland Wodeman was summoned before the Court. His service to
Hawkwood was acknowledged with the Award of the Golden Decrescent.
Lady Veronica Pasamonte was then called before their Excellencies, and recognized with a Baronial
Award of Excellence for her service as Chatelaine to Hawkwood.
Their Excellencies then demanded the presence of Lady Gracia Slay, whom was also recognized for her
exceptional artistic contributions to Hawkwood with a Baronial Award of Excellence.
At this time their Excellencies Ronan and Muriele called before them their champions, thanked them for
their service and released them from their duties.
Thus ended the morning court of Ronan and Muriel, Baron and Baroness of Hawkwood.
Afternoon Court:
Their Excellencies again opened court in the afternoon at Hawkwood’s Baronial Birthday, as they had
further business to attend to.
Their Excellencies first called for the presence of Lady Æsa gylðir, whom was acknowledged for her arts
and sciences achievements with the Award of the Silver Wings of Hawkwood.
At this time, their Excellencies called forth their new champions:
Heavy Fighter : Lord Xavier Leon Corazon
Rapier : m’Lord Arias Velarde de Santillana
Archery: Lady Juliana Blackwood
Arts & Sciences : Lady Æsa gylðir
Thrown Weapons : Lady Una Redfox
Equestrian : Lord August Von Flugel
Youth Fighter : m’Lord Christian Leon Corazon
After seeing to this, their Excellencies called forth Lord Edward Godale, and then inducted him into the
Order of the Golden Moon for his excellence in service to the Barony.
m’Lord Ysgramir was called into court, and his Excellency Baron Ronan questioned him about a particular
item that he misplaced that had been found. His Excellency returned the strange long distance speakingbox to it’s owner, and everyone rejoiced.
The call was put forth for Lord Klaus Jäger to come before the court, and he was recognized for his
excellence in his artistic pursuits by being inducted into the Order of the Silver Hawk.
Lord Maxamilian Brudder was then summoned forth, and with much celebration he was inducted into
the Order of the Goshawk for his excellence in combat on the rapier field.
Dame Morwenna Trevethan was then ordered before the court and questioned about her activities of
the day. It pleased their Excellencies to name Dame Morwenna a honorary member of Hawkwood, as
well as to award her a Baronial Award of Excellence for her constant service to the populace.
Thus closed the afternoon court of Ronan and Muriel, Baron and Baroness of Hawkwood.
Feast Court:
One final piece of business was left to attend to, and thereby Their Excellencies Hawkwood, Ronan and
Muriel, again opened their Baronial Court.
Long Slayer was called forth from the kitchens, and recognized for her service to our populace and
Barony, and was awarded the Baronial Award of Excellence for her tireless work to serve whenever
