King Street Public School Facebook Page!
King Street Public School now has a Facebook page! We went live yesterday and we
already have over 140 likes. Our Facebook page will be another way we will
communicate information and positively promote all of the great projects and
initiatives that our children are involved in here at King Street Public School. We will
still use our School App and our website but Facebook will give us another way to
communicate with you, our parents, and the Singleton community. We would really
like to post pictures of our students and yesterday we sent home a note seeking your
permission to do this. Please call the office if you have any questions regarding this
process.
A big thank you to Mrs Judge from King Street and Mr Matt Leleu from Bolwarra
Public School who helped KSPS set up our page. Please like us and stay up to date
with what’s happening at our school. The link to our page is below.

Bus Travellers
This week we are focussing on the positive behaviour that we expect of our students
while waiting for the bus of an afternoon. We held a bus travellers meeting on Friday
to talk about positive behaviours. Our students are working on sitting in the correct
bus line and staying seated until their bus number is called so that they don’t miss
their bus. Yesterday Mrs Newton, Mrs Hawkins and myself had a lovely bus duty with
our students being Kind, Safe, Proud and Supportive of each other, with lots of PBL
tickets handed out. Well done King Street, keep it up!
Attendance at School
Last week I included some facts about attendance at school; today I am including
some tips to help get your child here on time.

King Street is an Allergy Aware School
This is a reminder for all families that some of our
students have serious reactions to products
containing nuts and fish. We ask that you please
do not send foods or containers to school that
contain nut or fish products.
This includes nutella and peanut butter spread.

The purpose of this activity is to encourage and help
students to enhance their skills in taking turns and
speaking nicely to each other.
We are looking for donations of any board games
that will help this group. Games such as Chess,
Scrabble and Connect 4 would be much
appreciated.

Approximately 200 students represented our school
last week at the annual Muswellbrook Eisteddfod.

We had class entries and a number of
individual/small group entries compete. These
students have spent a large amount of their own
time rehearsing over the last month.
As you can see below, the results were outstanding.
Every student is to be congratulated for their effort,
and also for the excellent behaviour that they
displayed. Many compliments were received from
their teachers, parents and other schools regarding
the ATTENTIVE and respectful conduct they
displayed. Congratulations to all students.
Year 1 Asks, ‘What’s That Sound’!
Over the next few week Stage 1 are having a
special emphasis on Science and Technology.
Year 1 last week were talking about ‘sound’ and
how sounds are all around us and affect our
lives in many different ways. The students will
be investigating sound by working scientifically
and technologically to develop ideas about the
properties of sound and materials through a
variety of hands on activities and experiences.

Sewing Group Excited to Complete Project
Student Safety a Priority at King Street
Mrs Bower and Mrs Fishpool have been working
with a dedicated group of students this year in our
Sewing Group. They have been amazed at their
4
patience and willingness to learn a new skill. Some
very proud students were keen to show off their
recently completed project which involved sewing
buttons on to some fabric to create flowers.
Assemblies:
The Sewing Group meets each Tuesday at
lunchtime and everyone is welcome. They will be
trying their hand at knitting next- and we can’t wait to
see the results!
Family and friends are always welcome to our
school events and assemblies. We would like to ask
that parents who are bringing pre-schoolers and
toddlers to our assemblies please ensure that they
are remaining near you during the assembly. It can
be dangerous for our staff and students particularly
around the stage area. We would not like to see any
of our students or small visitors hurt.
Photography:
Please be aware we have students whose
parents/carers have requested that their children not
be photographed. As a school we must respect this
request. If you are taking a photograph at a school
event could you please ensure you are only
photographing your child.
More Success in the Saddle
Last Friday more outstanding results were achieved
by the King Street Public School Horse Sports
competitors. Travelling to Cessnock, their results
were:
Cally- 1x 1st, 1x 3rd and 2x 4th

Athletics Carnival 2016
The King Street Public School Athletics Carnival will
be held on Friday 24th June. Permission notes have
gone home with all children explaining the procedure
for the day. Our organisers would appreciate it if you
could please return this note as soon as
possible.
On Athletics Carnival day all students will be
travelling to Alroy Oval by bus as soon as the rolls
are marked (please note students MUST have their
name marked off at school). They will take part in a
rotation of events, with our infants students also
enjoying an age race and novelty field activities.
Please be aware that all students are expected to
attend as there will be no supervision back at
school. The Athletics Carnival is a major part of
their sport curriculum.
All students will have the opportunity to compete in
their 100m, 200m and 800m age race. Due to time
restrictions we will not be able to run finals and
results will be determined by their heat time. Relays
will be run on the day if there is time, alternatively
they will be run at school. The 800m races will be
run first.
Children will be expected to behave in a manner
which is consistent with our school values and
display Kind, Safe, Proud and Supportive behaviour
at all times. As this is a school event, any child who
breaches our discipline code will be dealt with
through the normal channels.
Children who are unable to follow teachers and
parent helpers instructions on the day will be
sent home.
A healthy canteen will be operating on the day, with
a BBQ lunch and coffee van also available. A pre
order form for lunch is in this newsletter.
We look forward to a fantastic carnival with great
competition, sportsmanship and fun. If you are able
to help our staff on the day please indicate on the
permission note or see our office staff.

S3G’s Pen Pal Pleasure!
4
Students in S3G have been participating in pen pal writing throughout the year. They
were each paired up with another Stage 3 student from Alma Public School in
Broken Hill.
Our pen pal class, 5/6A, belongs to Miss Honeysett, who was also keen to get the
activities rolling. Each class has written and received 2 letters so far from their pen
pal. Miss Gay is also very excited when she receives a letter from her pen pal, Miss
Honeysett!
S3G is very excited any time we receive a letter.
In these letters we have learnt about life in Broken Hill. We have many differences
but were surprised to learn about similarities. Many students enjoy the same
activities such as sports and art.
S3G students are excited to receive their colourful letters!
We ensure to decorate each letter to add to the fun!
Opening letters is always an exciting time. Some
students have even started exchanging small gifts
for their pen pal.
Each student shares their letters with the class. It is
interesting to see how different each one is!
Our letters average between 1-2 pages and
are packed with interesting facts. We also
like to ask each other questions for next
time.

Kindergarten Enrolment: Expressions of Interest for 2017
Developing a caring environment where innovation leads to strong opportunities
through quality teaching.
Starting school is an important step in a child’s life. At King Street Public School we believe in the importance of
strong home/school, teacher/parent partnerships from the very first day of your child’s schooling. For this reason,
we organise preschool visits and a Kindergarten transition program which includes our award winning ‘Storytime’
sessions. The transition program provides opportunities for children starting Kindergarten to settle into a school
routine, meet their teachers, mix with groups of other children and engage in both structured and unstructured play
activities. Kindergarten Orientation is held early in Term 4 each year. Our Orientation includes information sessions
for parents and classroom time for children.
As part of our planning process for next year we need to commence identifying pre-school children who may be
attending our school in 2017. We invite you to please complete this Expression of Interest for each child in your
family who will be attending Kindergarten in 2017 at King Street Public School. If you know of neighbours,
relatives, friends or others who you think may be intending to come to King Street Public School, please let them
know to contact the school on 6572 2281 for information about enrolling. Our school website www.kingstreetp.schools.nsw.edu.au will also have enrolment information and relevant dates.
