As I sit atop of this H.O.G.
Chapter, as we the officers
have had several meetings
already about many various
events for you, I realize just
how blessed I am to have
such a hardworking,
dedicated crew of
individuals, working with
me. These ladies and
gentlemen have jumped in
with both feet running to
plan and organize so many
events that will lead to your
ultimate “Ride and have
Fun” adventures. I know
you can’t see the
nervousness and the stress
that goes on behind those
eyeballs, but believe me
they are doing a super job.
Next time you see them in
the dealership or on a ride,
say thanks. Because all
we want you, the member,
to do is show up and have
a great time. Now on
occasion, like our MDA
event, we’ll certainly ask
for your assistance.

Loving every minute as a passenger behind
Jeff. We met (again) in Sept. of 2011 and our
second date was a ride on his motorcycle. I
love the feel of the wind on my face and the
sights and smells you can only get riding on a
motorcycle. Our honeymoon included a ride to
Pigeon Forge, TN where we experienced “The
Dragon" and all the curvy mountain roads we
could find. Currently working on 10 years
employment at Roy Anderson Corp as a Project
Accountant. Looking forward to managing
funds for the H.O.G. Chapter to allow us to
purchase items and provide prizes and all that
goes into a fun Christmas Party in 2016!
Leslie Melton, Treasurer
So blessed to be married to my best friend
and high school sweetheart for almost 35
years. We have two great kids and five
beautiful grandkids too! I started as a
passenger on my husband's Street Glide,
then in 2012 I took the RIDE class and
within a few weeks I bought my first
Harley, a Heritage Softail Classic, and
have been riding ever since and loving
every minute of it. The Chapter was with
me every step of the way, the mentorship
and friendships are priceless.

I have been with the Mississippi Coast
H.O.G. Chapter for 2-1/2yrs. I have been
a Road Captain for 2 years. Been riding
motorcycles since I was 8 years old.
Learned how to ride on a Yamaha 175
Enduro. I bought my first Harley in 2010.
It was a 2011 Sedona Orange Street Glide.
In the middle of 2011 I met the love of my
life and in Dec 2012 bought my second
Harley a 2013 110th Anniversary Edition
Ultra Limited. Looking forward to serving
as your Road Captain.

The History Corner
Next month is the
Chapter’s 30th birthday.
Ron Lonnborg is hosting a
celebration at the
Mississippi Coast H-D on
Saturday, March 26th.
Make plans to bring your
party hat and come help
us celebrate. There will be
food, drinks and a
birthday cake.
Ron first started out 38 years ago
doing custom builds. He made trikes
for which he received awards,
celebrity, and recognition for his
achievements. Ron was even
presented in "Easy Riders" magazine.
The first Mississippi Coast H.O.G.
Chapter members, and Ron even
made a calendar of its members,
which required a very complicated
and expensive technique to produce
the pictures on the calendar stock. It
cost some $4,000 to produce. Look
in next month’s History Corner for
more on the history about our
Chapter, Ron, and Mississippi Coast
Harley-Davidson's history.
By Michael Podlin
Here are some
historical facts that
you may find are
interesting:
Circa 1903, imagine, if you will...this is
where it all began (10ft. X15ft.) - go
figure! Look at all that snow!
Remember two years ago when
Harley-Davidson did something new
for 2014, Project Rushmore? You
remembered. There was one thing
which to some was just gut
wrenching, and downright
unspeakable...don't fix it if it ain't
broke! They had taken the 103 cubic
inch "twin cam, fat head" engine,
which was introduced in 2003, and
cooled its heads with a liquid - are
you kidding me?

Here is a look at what is
going on in ‘them there’
heads (some kind of new
fangled contraption).
By David Sammons, Safety Officer
Spring is fast approaching and all of us, I’m sure, are getting excited in
anticipation of long leisurely rides through the countryside. Before we
fire up our rides and launch ourselves down the highways and byways,
we need to make sure our motorcycles are up to the task. This link will
take you to the Motorcycle Safety Foundations website and their tire
guide. This documents covers everything you need to know to make
sound decisions on your tires. Additionally it provides an excellent
method of inspecting your bike called “T-CLOCS” (Tires & Wheels, Controls,
Lights, Oil and Stands). I hope you enjoy the site and lets ride safe in 16!

Whether as a Chapter Ride or on your
own...visit these four Mississippi eateries and earn the “Four
Corners” Patch and 40 points in your 2016 Challenge Book.
1. SE Mississippi: The Shed Barbecue and Blues Joint,
Ocean Springs, MS (N30° 26.832’, W88° 43.086’)
Barbecue and Blues…does it get any better than that? The family
owned business is literally constructed out of junk, but don’t let that
fool you as The Shed’s delicious barbecue and secret rub have
garnered the “joint” much recognition, even being featured on both
“Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives” and “Man vs. Food Nation.
2. NE Mississippi: Latham’s Hamburger Inn, New Albany, MS
(N34° 29.613’, W89° 00.569’)
Not your normal burger joint, Latham’s
claim to fame is their very own
“doughburger.” The secret recipe
includes a blend of beef, spices, and
dough, which is deep fried and served
on a dressed bun. The unofficial “best
burger in Mississippi,” Latham’s has
been around for decades and has
even been recognized on
“Burgerland”.

3. NW Mississippi: The Hollywood Café, Robinsonville, MS
(N34° 49.029’, W90° 18.935’)
If you’re from Mississippi you’ve eaten a deep fried
pickle, and if you’re not from Mississippi you NEED to
eat a deep fried pickle. Why all this talk about deep
fried pickles? Because The Hollywood Café just
happens to be the home of the fried dill pickle. Aside
from the pickles, the menu includes everything from
burgers to frog legs. Only adding to the restaurants
appeal is its rich history and authentic southern
charm.
4. SW Mississippi: The Old Country Store, Lorman, MS
(N31° 49.254’, W91° 03.012’)
Located near the historic Natchez Trace Parkway, The
Old Country Store has been around since the late 19th
century. And, as you’ve probably
already guessed, was originally an old
country store. Not much has changed
at the restaurant over the years, which
you’ll quickly realize as you pull up
and feel like you’ve been transported
back to the 1920’s. People come from
near and far for the all-you-can-eat
buffet, which includes local favorites
and Mr. D’s Heavenly Fried Chicken –
referred to as the best in the south.
