Officer Updates
From our Director: Jim Gardner
Well here we go again, another month older, six months wiser and just having a ball
with all the good friends and rides we have had. I can only think of one other place that
would be better but I am not ready to ride there yet. There are just no words to describe
the fun we are having and just look what is ahead of us, whoopee, more fun rides.
I hope all of you won't forget we need help for the Tilley bash on Sunday July 19, we
will be doing the cooking and helping “man all of the events” they have planed, this is a
big one and we need to be there in force. We need a minimum of twenty people; more
would be better, please let one of the officers know if you can help.
Don't forget to tell your officers, what a good job they are doing and how much fun
you are having, that will make them happy.
See you when I see you my friend, let's ride and have fun.
Your Director, Jim Gardner
From our Secretary: Patti Grove
Minutes – June 2009 Meeting
The Statesville H.O.G. met Sunday, June 14, 2008 at Tilley Harley-Davidson for the
monthly meeting with Jim Gardner, Director, presiding.
The meeting was called to order at 2:03 p.m. with 36 members present.
A prayer was offered by Craig Liverman and Jim asked the membership to stand and
say the Pledge of Allegiance.
Officer Reports:
Director: Jim talked about riders being responsible for their own safety. Whether it is
watching what other vehicles are doing or not riding beyond your own abilities, it’s all
about looking out for number one. All future rides will be rated for difficulty to give
members the opportunity to evaluate whether a particular ride will be enjoyable, or
stressful because it is above their skill level or just too long.
The Tilley Sunday Bash will be July 19. We need volunteers!!
Charity: MDA Poker Run is June 27. We need helpers and also door prizes. If you can
get any, please let Cindy know.
Tilley’s is selling MDA “Mobiles” if you are interested in buying one. The various
departments are having a contest to see who can sell the most.
Activities: Mark thanked Don Henderson for being an outstanding Head Road Captain.
He reviewed upcoming rides which are listed on the calendar. The dinner ride ending at
Mezzaluna II has been rescheduled to July 9.
5 Million Mile Monday is June 29. This is a national H.O.G. event with the goal of
members riding a combined total of at least 5,000,000 miles that day. We are going to
try to do our part with an informal ride to western North Carolina and possibly into
Tennessee. If you are interested in participating, let Mark Terry know.
Darlene Holmes asked to speak to the group about members going to visit Tommy. She
said he still loves hearing about and talking about motorcycles. He would love to have
visitors from the chapter.
The results of the drawings for prizes were:
Gene Ward won the 50/50 drawing. Ronnie Carver won the birthday gift certificate. Allen
Rhew and Darlene Holmes won door prizes.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 and 12 members traveled to Iron Thunder in Hickory
afterwards for some good food.
Riding another bike at 40, people think you look crazy and haven’t grown up.
Riding at Harley at 40, people think you’re young at heart and have style.
Harley riders always have something to talk about at parties.
Sure you can ride other motorcycles to Daytona and Sturgis, but why?
Women riding Harleys look sexy, confident and independent.
Cleaning your Harley becomes an act of love and respect.
Harley riders have a better sex life because they can stay in the saddle longer.
Harley riders are recognized worldwide. Wear a Harley hat or T-shirt anywhere in
the world and someone will walk up to you to and talk to you about your bike.
People can argue endlessly about the technical advantages and ergonomics of other
motorcycles, but when it’s all been said, Harley riders get on their bikes and ride
away with a smile.
Harley riders always have a wrench handy to loan someone.
Harley riders never have to worry about their Harley-riding friends asking to
borrow money.

Tidbits
International best-selling author Edward Winterhalder is looking to interview adults
(motorcycle rider or non-motorcycle rider, over 16, under 60, male or female), that were
raised in the home of a biker (male or female) or a member of a motorcycle club when they
were a child, for a new book tentatively called “Biker Kidz: Who’s Your Daddy”.
Edward is particularly interested in hearing about good, happy or sad memories.
This book will answer the following questions:
What was it like as a child to grow up in the home of a biker or a motorcycle club member?
How did kids raised in the home of a biker or a motorcycle club member turn out?
Interviews for the book will be conducted via phone between June 1st and December 31st,
2009, by an academic research team located in the United States.
For more information about Edward Winterhalder, his books (which are sold all over the
world and published in multiple languages) or his television shows, please go to
