DeLaval manure solutions
Right choice
for your barn
DeLaval manure systems contribute directly to the profitable running
of your farm: from planning to hard-working products to service
by qualified DeLaval technicians.
Profitability
Manure handling is a key point for
the global revenue of your day-to-day
operation.
• Clean barn environment helps
you to keep good hygiene in your
barn, reducing hoof problems and
veterinary costs.
• Clean animals reduce milking
preparation time in cleaning the
udders of the cows, making the
milker’s time more efficient.
• Clean milking sessions secure milk
quality and value.
• Efficient manure handling reduces
ammonia lost to the air and keeps
it available as a fertilizer that can be
used rather than buying increasingly
expensive synthetic fertilizers.
Environment
If handled correctly, manure keeps
its qualities as a fertilizer, while the
environmental impact of phosphate,
ammonia and methane emissions are
reduced.
Animal welfare
With efficient manure handling you
ensure low ammonia emissions and
a clean barn and animals, which
increase the welfare of your herd.
Cow friendly design and efficiency is
a constant focus for the large range of
hard-working products and solutions
from DeLaval.
Importance of a system approach
DeLaval offers complete systems
for all types of barns. These provide
effective and reliable methods for
handling all manure types and all barn
layouts. This includes more advanced
alley designs for VMS barns, loose
housing, large operations, grassland
systems and more.
Social responsibility
Manual manure handling is unpleasant
work carried out in high levels of dust
and ammonia emissions. Mechanized
handling improves working conditions
and automation ensures that manure is
handled in a manner that is appropriate
to weather conditions etc. It is also
an important way of minimizing smell
and the risk of water contamination to
keep neighbours and local authorities
satisfied.
Integration
Your complete manure handling
system can be controlled by DeLaval
barn system controller
BSC. With a single, easy-to-use
interface, you can synchronize your
equipment to act as one integrated
system. This increases efficiency and
reduces energy wastage. You can
also program your system to adapt
to the weather conditions and set
cow-friendly cleaning routines.
Solutions for today and tomorrow
Our manure systems can be a
cornerstone of your farm’s future. We
make it possible for you to comply
with local and national legislation and
to reduce your farm’s environmental
impact. DeLaval manure systems
are low on energy consumption,
highly reliable and cost effective.
Our systems approach allows you
to increase your herd in a cost
effective way while controlling the
environmental impact.
DeLaval barn system controller
Control all of your systems as one
DeLaval Barn System Controller BSC lets you manage all aspects
of your manure-handling as a single, integrated system.
The BSC lets program your alley
cleaning, gutter cleaning and manure
transfer systems to work together.
This can greatly increase your system
efficiency and reduce your operating
costs.
The easy-to-use interface of the
BSC lets you fine-tune your manurehandling operations to suit your farm
needs. It also lets you program your
system to automatically adapt to
changing weather conditions.
The benefits of the BSC extend
beyond manure-handling. The same
controller can also control your
ventilation, lighting and cow-cooling
systems – a single controller for all of
your barn systems.
Integrate your system
The BSC lets you control all your
equipment as one integrated system.
Up to four scrapers, cleaning
solutions (cable, chain or hydraulic),
four collection solutions (hydraulic
or cable), four agitators and four
pumps and presses – up to 16 pieces
of equipment – all be operated as a
single system.
The benefits of synchronising your
equipment as one integrated system
are increased efficiency and reduced
energy wastage caused by running
systems when they are not needed.
Choose the operation mode that suits
your needs:
• Fully automated, sensor activated
time schedule
• Continuous mode – for intensive
handling
• One time cycle mode – when an
extra cycle is needed
• Manual operation – for hands-on
operation
A system that adapts to
the conditions
Different weather conditions affect
manure-handling in different ways.
If manure dries out or freezes solid,
your whole system can come to
a grinding halt. The BSC lets you
program your system to react to
changing weather conditions.
Wind and temperature sensors inside
and outside your barn feed
directly into your BSC. This means
you can program your system to
activate different cleaning cycles
and frequencies to suit the weather
conditions.
This functionality also helps you
to protect the environment. Windy
conditions can increase ammonia gas
emissions. Programming your manure
handling system to automatically
increase cycle frequency when
windy conditions are detected,
can improve the environment both
inside and outside your barn. It also
ensures that ammonia forms nitrogen
in the manure rather than the air.
This improves its fertilizing potential
reduces the requirement for costly
synthetic nitrogen fertilizers.
Naturally, all energy savings achieved
by better control not only reduces
costs but also reduces the total
emissions from the power generation
per liter of milk produced.
With the BSC, you don’t even need
to be in your barn to be making smart
decisions.
Program your manure system to know
which areas of your barn they should
take extra care. After all, your cows
are your most valuable asset. It pays
to treat them with care.
DeLaval barn system controller
Control at your fingertips
Simple, touchpad controls make
programming your BSC easy. You can
program standard cycles for standard
conditions and special cycles for
special conditions.
These are some of the program
options that are available:
Climate programs
Frost Guard
When temperatures fall:
Program your system to increase
cycle frequency to prevent manure
from freezing solid.
Wind Guard
When wind levels increase:
Program your system to increase
cycle frequency to prevent excessive
ammonia buildup (accessories not
included).
Dry Guard
When temperatures rise:
Program your system to increase
cleaning cycle frequency to prevent
manure from drying out.
Cow kindness programs
Obstacle detection
Your BSC monitors the load on each
scraper. If it encounters an obstacle,
such as a cow on the ground, it
automatically stops the scraper. After
a pause it tries again, if the obstacle
is still there, the BSC sounds an
alarm.
Parking Zone
Parking areas:
Program your manure scraper to park
itself out of harm’s way when it is not
operating. Choose a preferred resting
location or multiple locations to suit
the layout of your barn.
Operation Programs
Low Speed Zone
Level control
Busy areas: Choose areas where
your scraper should slow down, such
as walkways and high-traffic zones,
to avoid accidents.
Special Care Zone
Sensitive areas: Some areas, such
as calving areas, are too sensitive
for automatic cleaning. Set your
system to exclude these areas in the
automatic cycle but to notify barn
personnel to provide a manual override.
Note: This function is only available
with single alley cleaning solutions.
The BSC connects to level monitors
(accessories not included) to ensure
that your systems only work when
they need to. When pits are full,
agitation and transfer systems start.
This prevents energy wastage and
unnecessary equipment operation.

DeLaval robot scraper on slats RS420S
Planning and installation
At home in your slatted floor barn
DeLaval RS420S is popular in slatted
floor barns because its sophisticated
automation helps contribute to a
profitably managed farm. It can
handle complex layouts and even
simplifies barn planning because
there is no need to focus on fixed
manure scraper requirements.
The main advantage is the flexibility
and low demand on barn planning for
manure handling as the robot cleans
almost every corner.
All sites that require cleaning by the
robot need to be free of obstacles. For
small obstacles, a scraper lifting unit is
available as an option. If possible, the
docking station should be placed in
the middle of the barn.
Technical data
Dimensions
(LxWxH) incl. scraper: 1484x718x640 cm
Width of scraper: 130–190 cm
Each cleaning track needs to have
small transponders drilled into the floor
at a set distance for robot navigation.
Maximum area covered by one
robot is typically an area of 5 500 m2
per day depending on the barn layout.
To see how many times the robot
can run per day make a calculation
according to the barn layout and
scraper speed, which is four-five m/min.
The entire barn needs to have a
minimum and unobstructed passage
height of 700 mm.
The robot scraper is extremely
flexible when installing and if the farm
expands. You only need to make a
new route if you want to cover a larger
area and the robot is more or less
independent of alley length and width.

DeLaval manure separator
MAS910
Treatment of manure gives efficient volume management
and controls the impact of phosphorous. It makes it easier
to spread as fertilizer, lowers transport costs and reduces
storage odour.
Conditioning and separation
Manure goes in: solids and liquids
come out. A simple principle, yet the
benefits are highly significant. On
the one hand, you get recycled solid
matter in the form of organics and on
the other an enhanced concentration
of nutrients in the liquid part which is
readily pumped and easy to transport.
Core benefits
• Efficient volume management
• Control of phosphorous impact
• Reduced storage odour
• Easier spreading
• Reuse of liquid in a flush system
Systematic savings
By separating manure you will have
easier manure handling. Solids are
easily stackable and remain stable
when stored or treated further for
compost and bedding recovery.
Liquids are readily pumped and easy
to transport. In a flush system, you can
reuse the liquid in an optimum manner.
DeLaval manure separator MAS910

DeLaval manure separator MAS910
has a range of features designed
for long life and profitable manure
handling.
• The robust stainless steel
construction built with precision

operation.
• Low maintenance costs, no
lubrication required, easy
replacement of bearings.
• Low power requirements.
Component features
DeLaval manure separator MAS910
Variable speed control optimises the
separation process and solid matter
dewatering. The clean in place (CIP)
system provides automatic cleaning
of the screen, to reduce screen
clogging and deliver a constant
processing rate. Easily configured
without tools. The screen is available
in two different models to suit
different needs.
DeLaval manure roller press MRP910
This powerful unit uses a combination
of durable gum roll and perforated
screen to remove the residual
liquid from the separated manure
solids. The gum roll resists abrasion
and damage from foreign bodies.
Incorporated in the roller press is a
CIP system for automated cleaning of
the unit.
Process performance
The manure is separated in two
nutrient streams: one component
of solids and another component of
liquids. The two components share
the volume loads averaging 25% for
the solids and 75% for the liquids.
Single pass solid removal rates of up
to 30% can be achieved depending
on input densities, perforation sizes,
forage types and flow. Up to 25% dry
matter in solids is achievable.
Inbuilt automatic cleaning
Automatic cleaning of the screen is
made by 12+3 inbuilt spray nozzles
using 3.8 litres of fresh water per
nozzle. Automatic cleaning reduces
screen clogging and ensures constant
processing rates. Connection to the
supplied solenoid valve uses 70 mm
coupling.
Motor
The 0.56 kW variable speed motor
optimizes the separation process and
solid matter dehydration.

safe accumulation and removal of the
manure solids generated.
Space must be provided for pits and
stacking areas.
In regions with a severe winter climate,
the manure separator must be housed
in a covered structure, to prevent
freezing.

Planning and installation
The ability to pump manure depends
on several factors
• Moisture content
• Amount of fibrous material
• Form of fibrous material
You can evaluate manure properties
by doing a slump test. Cover a 60 cm
diameter disc above the floor with
manure, allowing the sample to flow
freely. Wait one minute and measure
the depth at the centre.
Always perform the slump test to determine the actual manure consistency. The
following chart is simply to aid in visual recognition of approximate consistency.
Manure depth
Description
1 – 2 cm
Manure is very liquid and splashes easily. Water has been mixed into the
manure to produce this consistency
3 – 4 cm
Manure appears runny and does not form a distinct pile. Manure splatters
when it hits the floor. Cows on lush pasture often have this type of manure.
Manure looks like porridge and will show concentric rings or ripples on the
surface. The manure makes a plopping sound when it hits the floor.
Manure is slow to flow and tends to stick to boots. Dry cows and heifers may
have this type of manure.
Manure shows faecal balls and retains shape. This is considered solid and
cannot be pumped.

DeLaval lagoon pumps LPT and LPH
Features
Trailer-mounted for high stability
Trailer-mounting is recommended for
larger lagoons where you need long
pump arms. We also recommend
trailers for the extra stability they
provide when using high capacity
propellers. Adjustable, twin
stabilizer legs and wide-stance tyres
counterbalance the sideways thrust
of the agitation nozzle. Trailer models
are available in 9.75 m, 12.5 m or 15.8
m – choose the length according to
lagoon or pit depth.
Hitch-mounted for high mobility
For smaller lagoons and vertical-wall
storage, the hitch version is mounted
directly on the tractor, making it
easy to move from place to place.
The three-point hitch mounting is
for maximum pit depth of 4 m, 4.60
m and 5.20 m, making it extremely
manoeuvrable.
Impellers – 105 to 240 HP
The range includes from pumps for 70
kW tractors all the way up to 180 kW
tractors. The impellers are made of
T-1 steel for superior wear resistance
and the all-bolted construction makes
maintenance fast and easy.
Single- or double-wheel kits
The single-wheel kit is intended for
use in sloped-wall lagoons with entry
ramps (maximum 2:1 slope). The
double-wheel kit, with extendable
dual wheels, offers extra height for
backing over difficult berms, with the
wide stance providing extra stability.
The dual-wheel kit is the best choice
for frequent transporting of heavier
pumps on public roads.
Telescopic wheel kit for extra
stability
The telescopic wheel kit allows you to
use the pump both in sloped-wall and
vertical-wall storage: for vertical-wall
pits up to 4.85 m deep, or in slopedwall pits with rough terrain or steep
ramps. Telescopic wheels provide an
extremely wide, stable stance during
agitation and pumping, but quickly
convert back to a compact road-legal
width when you transport the pump
to the next job.
Pumpeller
Pumpeller for Lagoon pumps
The new Pumpeller pumping kit revolutionizes manure pump
performance: Much faster mixing that saves fuel and lets you start
spreading quicker. No gearbox to service nor repair.
Cannon blast
The high volume / high
pressure cannon cuts
through the thickest solids.
Propeller stream
The propeller moves
homogenized
slurry away from
the pump, bringing
unprocessed solids
towards the inlet.
Supercharged impeller
Manure is actively pushed into
the impeller blades around
the outer edge of the turbine
by the outward flow from the
propeller core, providing load-out
performance in thicker slurry.
Cutting speed
The Pumpeller homogenizes
solids as they pass through
the turbine instead of relying
on the cannon jet pressure
or an external propeller.
Pumping power
The unique impeller has a steep-angle
blade producing high volume followed
by a swept blade producing pressure.
Choose either the 540 rpm model
(115 HP) or the 1000 rpm model
(180 HP).
Intake flow
The high volume propeller pulls
manure and bedding into the
large diameter inlet
DeLaval lagoon pumps LPT and LPH
Features
Hydraulics for operator comfort
and safety
Hydraulic controls for horizontal and
vertical nozzle movement and the
agitate/fill valve are easily operated
from the tractor seat. (although
all options are not available on all
models).
You are free to mix and match
controls according to need and
model, but for high volume jobs,
DeLaval recommends the cablecontrol spool valve to provide a
compact control bank –
• Direct to tractor
• Manual spool valve kit
• Cable spool valve kit
Manual or hydraulic hitch
adjustment
Either set the manual hitch
adjustment for one specific manure
pit, or use the hydraulic hitch option
to quickly and easily adjust the pump
for different pits.
Hydraulic stabilizers
The hydraulic stabilizer option lets
you lower or raise the stabilizer legs
from the tractor seat.
New flexible cannon
A new detachable cannon features a
quick coupler for fast removal from
the outer nozzle.
The innovative design allows the
cannon to swivel in a wide arc to
deliver full flow in any position.
Output kits
The optional PowerBoom discharge
is one of the discharge choices
available. The PowerBoom loading
pipe is hydraulically powered,
allowing the operator to lift and swing
the loading pipe from the storage
position to the tanker-loading position
from the seat of the tractor. Lagoon
pumps are also available with 15.2 cm
or 20.3 cm standard discharges for
use with loading carts or bipod kits.
Profitable manure handling
You need the right kind of equipment
at the storage pit to handle large
volumes quickly. DeLaval lagoon
pumps LPT/LPH help you in the
final stages of a profitable manure
handling system.
Sustainability
DeLaval pumpeller helps to retain
the fertilizer potential of manure and
reduce the costs of buying synthetic
fertilizers to keep land productive.
And because it works quickly and
effectively, it is efficient on time, fuel
and labour.

DeLaval vertical pumps VP
Features
Trailer-mounted for high stability
For pits with smaller openings, the
trailer-mounted pump can be tilted
and slid into place. The trailer model
is also easy to transport by road
and its heavy-duty construction
handles pumps of up to 4.30 m. We
recommend trailers for the extra
stability they provide when using high
capacity propellers. Trailer models
are available in 2.40 m, 3.05 m, 3.65
m and 4.30 m – choose the length
according to pit depth.
Hitch-mounted for high mobility
For smaller pits, the hitch version
is mounted directly on the tractor,
making it easy to move from place
to place: a simple and economical
choice for pits up to 3.65 m deep.
The three-point hitch mounting
allows for pump lengths of 2.40 m,
3.05 m, 3.65 m, making it extremely
manoeuvrable.
Impeller and turbo-propeller
The impellers are made of T-1 steel
for superior wear resistance and
the all-bolted construction makes
maintenance fast and easy. The
optional gearbox-driven turbopropeller makes the job of mixing
bedded manure faster – with the 50cm three-blade propeller producing
both turbulence and flow.
Hydraulics for operator comfort
and safety
Hydraulic controls are easily operated
from the tractor seat both for the
horizontal and vertical upper nozzle
movement and the agitate/fill valve.
With full hydraulic control, you get
better agitation of large storage
volumes. The upper nozzle can
quickly and easily be aimed upward
and downward or rotated a full
270 degrees, while a hydraulicallyoperated control allows you to switch
the output from agitation to loading.
The flange-mounted lower nozzle can
be either be left in an open position
(for sand), or it can be capped.
Alternatively, it can be equipped with
an optional hydraulically-powered
gate valve.
Profitable manure handling
You need the right kind of equipment
at the storage pit to handle large
volumes quickly. DeLaval vertical
pumps VP help you in the final
stages of a profitable manure
handling system.

Features
Steering system
General features
The modular design allows each
component to specialise in its task,
while contributing to the hard-working
capacity of the unit. A long working
life is aided by the heavy wheel
linkage, independent left and right
wheels on hydraulic suspension,
as well as the thick steel used in
manufacturing the tank.
Safety is never taken lightly with
high load brakes and mechanical
steering that works even at high
speeds. The swing open door also
facilitates cleaning or service.
Component features
kit, splash plate choices, multiple
splash plate and valves.
Tanks
The 6.35 mm thick tanks come in a
range of sizes: eight wheels carry
36 300 litres, six wheels 28 000 and
23 400 litres, four wheels 21 500 litres.
Frame and steering system
The independent frame takes the
load off the tank and balances strains
throughout the entire system, which
gives many advantages over singlebody tanks. This simple concept
reduces tyre wear, reduces load on
axles and hubs and helps prevent field
damage. The steering system further
improves handling and road safety.
Spreading device
Discharge options include a low spray
Filling options
It’s your choice when it comes to
filling up: hopper, spring door hopper
or hydraulic hatch.
Injectors
In order to profit from the maximum
value of the nutrients in the manure,
an injection system should be
used for application. It optimizes
nutrient availability to the plants and
substantially reduces – minimizes
– ammonia emissions. Naturally, all
tanks come ready-made to add an
injector unit. The injector-tank system
has a lift mechanism that makes road
transport easier and injection more
efficient.

Less impact on
the environment
DeLaval has solutions to reduce the environmental
footprint of farms; while improving milk production,
farm profitability and the well-being of the people
and animals involved.
Doing more with less
Manure handling is a critical area for making dairy
farming more sustainable. Regarding the environment
for example, there are major concerns about the amount
of greenhouse gases generated by the dairy industry as
well as the amount of nutrients going into waterways and
resulting in eutrophication.
DeLaval makes it possible to reduce dairy farming’s
environmental footprint through proper manure handling
and other means.
