'The Friendliest Lodge in Florida!'
The Loyal Order of Moose is a fraternal & service organization founded in 1888, with nearly
800,000 men in roughly 1,800 Lodges, in all 50 states & four Canadian provinces, plus Great
Britain & Bermuda. Along with other units of Moose International, the Loyal Order of Moose
supports the operation of Mooseheart Child City & School , a 1,000-acre community for
children & teens in need, located 40 miles west of Chicago; & Moosehaven , a 70-acre
retirement community for its members near Jacksonville. Additionally, Moose Lodges
conduct approximately $50 million worth of community service (counting monetary donations
& volunteer hours worked) annually. Also, the Loyal Order of Moose conducts numerous
sports & recreational programs, in local Lodges & Family Centers in the majority of 44
State & Provincial Associations, & on a fraternity-wide basis.
In the US, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of
the US, which happened on that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental
Congress. The United States Army also celebrates the Army Birthday on this date;
Congress adopted "the American continental army" after reaching a consensus position in
the Committee of the Whole on June 14, 1775 In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued
a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in Aug 1949, National Flag
Day was established by an Act of Congress. Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, it is
the official statute on Flag Day; however, it is at the President's discretion to officially
proclaim the observance. On June 14, 1937, PA became the first US state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday. NY
Statutes designate the 2nd Sun in June as Flag Day, a state holiday. Perhaps the oldest continuing Flag Day parade is at
Fairfield, Washington. Beginning in 1909 or 1910, Fairfield has held a parade every year since, with the possible exception
of 1918, and celebrated the "Centennial" parade in 2010, along with some other commemorative events. Quincy,
Massachusetts has had an annual Flag Day parade since 1952 and claims it "is the longest-running parade of its kind in
the nation." The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy NY, which bases its parade on the Quincy parade and
typically draws 50,000 spectators. In addition, the Three Oaks, MI Flag Day Parade is held annually on the weekend of
Flag Day and is a 3 day event and they claim to have the largest flag day parade in the nation as well as the oldest
You're a grand old flag. You're a high flying flag And forever in peace may you wave. You're the emblem of The land
I love The home of the free and the brave. Ev'ry heart beats true 'neath the Red, White and Blue, Where there's
never a boast or brag. Should auld acquaintance be forgot, Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

A Message From:
Dear fraternal members of the Moose of South Lake. We are at the beginning of a new year.
Elections have been done on both sides and we are all ready to get off to a good start. I want to
thank all those involved, all those that help with the events, and all the volunteers. Would also like
to thank the kitchen help, the bartenders, all officers that make our lodge a success and all of our
general members, thanks for being a part of Southlake 1615. We are all proud of our Moose Lodge
and I am proud to be your governor, again thanks to all of you that get involved, that volunteer, and
help, it means a lot, thank you ----Fraternally, John Shively, Governor
As your newly elected Senior Regent, I am looking forward to a very prosperous year with
everyone in our Chapter being involved. I have a lot of new ideas and know that the only way we
can achieve our goals is to work together as a team. I would like to see all our members come to
meetings and become an intricate part of WOTM. We are only as good as our members make
us, so let’s strive to be the best Chapter in the State. Jane Smith, Senior Regent ---
Moose Legion will be holding regular monthly meeting at 12 noon on the 2nd Sunday of each
month. We will also be sponsoring corn hole tournaments on the 2nd Sunday of each month at
1pm. For the month of May the LOOM will be serving breakfast for Mothers’ Day, normally the
Moose Legion would serve breakfast from 9am to 11am on the 2nd Sunday of the month. Moose
Legion will resume it’s breakfast in June. Starting on the 1st Friday in May the Moose Legion will
begin hosting Bingo Board Horse Racing in the ballroom at the completion of the fish fry. There will
be postings in the Lodge explaining the rules. Jim Bever, Moose Legion Chairman
The Moose Riders have had a very busy past few months, but none more rewarding than The Ride for
the Stone. We were able to raise more than $6000 for this worthy cause with the help from many hard
working members of the Riders & our Moose Lodge even though it was a rainy day. This money goes
to families to purchase a head stone for those that cannot afford one on their own. Thank you to all
who participated. The Moose Riders have also donated a sizable check for the construction of the
roof on our new patio deck, which will begin in the month of May. May is also Mooseheart month,
when all proceeds will go to support Mooseheart. Beginning in May, the Moose Riders will begin a
monthly ride that will take place the weekend after our meetings (4th Wednesday of each month) to
various places that the Riders have chosen from their favorite rides/places. Our membership is
steadily growing & we welcome all new Moose Rider members. President, Earl Gray
Our Flag does not fly because the wind blows against it, it is moved instead, by the dying breath of
our patriots in uniform. Our Freedom is not free, it's been paid for many times over.

3/28/15 The Easter Egg
Hunt was a success. We had
so many eggs the children
were getting tired of
searching for them. The arts
& crafts before the hunt was
fun for all. Thank you to all
the volunteers for helping the
children with the arts &
crafts, cooking, stuffing &
hiding eggs & many other
activities. A special thanks to
the Easter Bunny. The kids
loved taking pictures with
you.

Helpful Tips for Lodge Success
** Host a family day in August prior to the start of school and offer free food, door prizes,
and games, and prizes for the kids.
**Recognize volunteers with certificates for a free dinner in the lodge for them and a guest.
**Host a sponsor appreciation dinner at least once a year and offer incentives such as
Moose bucks for each member sponsored.
**Host an open house once a year in the fall for expired members and offer them
incentives such as gift certificates for dinner in lodge.
**Solicit local businesses for door prizes at lodge events such as gift certificates for free or
discounted lunches or dinners, oil changes, or tickets to local amusement parts or other
family entertainment.
A blonde goes into a nearby store & asks a clerk if she can
buy the TV in the corner. The clerk looks at her & says that he
doesn't serve blondes, so she goes back home & dyes her
hair black. The next day she returns to the store & asks the same thing, & again, the clerk said he doesn't serve
blondes. Frustrated, the blonde goes home & dyes her hair yet again, to a shade of red. Sure that a clerk would sell
her the TV this time, she returns & asks a different clerk this time. To her astonishment, this clerk also says that she
doesn't serve blondes. The blonde asks the clerk, "How in the world do you know I am a blonde?" The clerk looks at
her disgustedly & says," That's not a TV, it's a microwave!"

A VISITOR FROM THE PAST Written by Thelen Paulk I had a dream the other night, I didn't understand. A figure
walking through the mist, with a flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn & dirty as he stood beside my bed. He
remover his three-cornered hat &, speaking low, he said: "We fought a revolution to secure our liberty. We wrote
the constitution, as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this legacy we gave, In this, the land of the free &
home of the brave. The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep. But tyrants labored endlessly
while your parents were asleep. Your freedom gone, your courage lost, you're no more than a slave. In this, the land of
the free & home of the brave. You buy permits to travel, & permits to own a gun. Permits to start a business, or build a
place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent. Although you have no voice in choosing how
the money's spent. Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate. And Christian values can't be taught
according to the state. You read about the current news in a regulated press. You pay a tax you do not owe to
please the I.R.S. Your money is no longer made of silver, nor of gold. You trade your wealth for paper, so your life
can be controlled. You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God in shame. You've taken Satan's number, as
you've traded in your name. You've given government control to those who do you harm. So they can padlock
churches & steal the family farm. Keeping our country deep in debt & putting Godly men in jail. They harass your
fellow countrymen while corrupted courts prevail. Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they've
sworn. Your daughters visit doctors, so their children won't be born. Your leaders ship artillery & guns off to foreign
shores. And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars. Can you regain the freedom for which so
many fought & died? Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride? Are there no more values for
which you'll fight to save? Or do you want your child to live in fear & be a slave? Sons & daughters of the
Republic, arise & take a stand! Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the land! Preserve our great
Republic, & each God-given right. And pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright." As I awoke he
vanished into the mist from whence he came. His words were true: We are not free. We have ourselves to blame.
For even now as tyrants trample each God-given right. We only watch & tremble, too afraid to stand & fight. If he stood
by your bedside, in a dream, while you were asleep. And wondered what remains of our rights he fought to keep. What
would be your answer, if he called out from the grave: "Is this still the Land of the Free & the Home of the Brave?"

The Moose Fraternity Though the Moose fraternal organization was founded in the late 1800s with the
modest goal of offering men an opportunity to gather socially, it was reinvented during the first decade
of the 20th century into an organizational dynamo of men and women who set out to build a city that
would brighten the futures of thousands of children in need all across North America.

In 1908, a woman named Ana Jarvis, in an effort to honor her mother, began a letterwriting campaign to ministers, businessmen & politicians that resulted in President
Woodrow Wilson's 1914 proclamation of Mother's Day as an annual national
observance. 93 years later, we still take this day to honor our mothers. I will spend
Sun with my mom, & I wish all of our mothers a very happy Mother's Day.
