Act! 120th Anniversary Variety Performance The Chuckles of Oz Box Office: 01924 211 311 Book Online: theatreroyalwakefield.co.uk Sex in Suburbia The Mist in the Mirror 2 3 Theatre Royal Wakefield Winner of the Yorkshire Post’s Business Community Award 2014 Sponsored by QBE Insurance Welcome to our Spring Season We are now well into our 120th anniversary season and over 100 people attended a birthday reception here in October. With the pantomime starting rehearsals shortly we are right in the middle of the busiest time of year but still planning for an even more exciting 2015. Two of the key elements in our 120th anniversary celebrations are the Sponsor Your Seat campaign and an Anniversary Variety Performance on 13 February. Full details are included inside this programme and we hope as many of you as possible will be able to participate in one or both of these important events. As many of you know these are challenging times for everyone working in the Arts and it was therefore especially pleasing for us to not only be nominated for the Business Community Award at the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards (one of just 3 businesses) but to win the title on 30 October at a glittering ceremony at the Queens Hotel in Leeds. In accepting this award we are very aware that our success depends on being able to demonstrate the extraordinary support that you give us individuals, communities and businesses – without which we would simply not be sustainable. In a week of good news we also learned of the success of our application for funding from the Arts Council to enable us to commission a new version of the Wakefield Mysteries which is being planned for the summer of 2016. With our commitment to work with young people this will be a youth production engaging over 100 young people from across the district and taking place in Wakefield Cathedral. More information will be available shortly...so watch this space. In the spring we are reviving our production of Bouncers prior to an extended UK tour, and for those of you who have seen The Woman in Black (Susan’s Hill’s play which is a Murray Edwards Executive Director [email protected] Watch out for our Young Writer symbol throughout the brochure where under 25’s can come and review for free. ‘The theatre’s onstage success is underpinned by its youth training projects....’ ‘Theatre Royal Wakefield has a longstanding commitment to engage artists to work with young people...’ Contact Us unique blend of suspense drama and stagecraft and has been running in the West End for 25 years) we are delighted to be presenting an adaptation of another of her books entitled The Mist in the Mirror from the Coliseum Theatre Oldham which is cast very much in the same mould. Finally, to end the 120th anniversary year our Youth Music Theatre Company will be presenting Cats from 26 August for 2 weeks. But as we said at the beginning of this introduction, none of this would be possible without your support. If you value what we do and would like to help then you will find further information about how to do this inside. We are thrilled that what we’re doing is being recognised by a wider public and as you look through the following pages we hope you will find something to inspire and tempt you to pay us a visit.
