And now St. John’s is pleased to announce a convenient new way to make your regular offerings. With our new electronic giving program, you can easily set up or make changes to your Simply Giving (regular recurring giving) schedule or make onetime contributions or pay for special events such as Sunday School registration. We encourage you to set up a schedule of recurring contributions. It’s convenient and provides much needed consistency for our church. If you are currently giving on a weekly basis, you will no longer need to write out 52 checks a year or prepare 52 envelopes. Even when travel, illness or other circumstances prevent you from attending services, our church will continue to receive your contributions on an uninterrupted basis. Simply follow these easy steps: 1. Visit our Church website at: www.stjohnsshakopee.com 2. Click on the “OnLine Giving” Button 3. Click on Create Profile button, then 4. We have the ability to send out e-mail blasts and would like to use this opportunity over the summer to keep you up to speed on any exciting news or updates that are occurring at St. John’s. If you could send your e-mail address to Nancy at [email protected] she can get it updated within our system and you will start getting e-mail blasts from us. Thank you so much as we try to get our records updated. VBS Theater Art Camp Important Update I am saddened and regret to share that St. John's will not be hosting the VBS Theater Art Camp in August, 2015. A significant number of key leaders have declined their participation, thus making the existing VBS Theater Art Camp structure not feasible to offer at this time. I am deeply grateful for the previous Theater Art Camps, as they were loved by the children and positive expressions have come out of them. With this, I trust that the Holy Spirit is at work already in the hearts of those that feel a call to provide a summer vacation ministry opportunity for the children of St. John's and Shakopee community. Please feel free to be in conversation with me or Pastor Christine on ways you can serve in ministry here at St. John's. Blessings to you and your families as we anticipate summer transitions. In Christ's Love, Pastor Linda Annie Jr.-- a Huge Success for St. John’s and Brittany’s Place! Another successful MWAM production, Annie Jr., was done in May. We raised over $7,000. We will be distributing it among the 3 groups, St. John’s, Brittany’s Place and MWAM. The youth also made over $1,000.00, on their bake sale, to help with their mission trip this summer. Great job! Thank you everyone that has contributed to MWAM and the bake sale to help make this a huge success. From Pastor Linda…..A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that either brought a sweet donation or more for the bake sale. Another THANK YOU for everyone that helped set-up, sell and cleaned-up!!! The Bake Sale during the Annie Jr. performances was a grand success with bringing in a little more than $1000 during Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows. These funds will be added to the same funds supporting the summer youth ministry opportunities like Bible camp, VBS and 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering Trip to Detroit, Michigan in July. Your involvement is a blessing to me, the community, the congregation, and most importantly the youth of St. John's! Much appreciated! 5 …..From Pastor Christine Wenzel The Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly was held on May 15th and 16th at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Ramsey. The theme this year was, “The Word Became Flesh and Moved into our Neighborhoods.” We heard great conversation around what needs to happen to reach out into our communities and transform our congregations into Missional Congregations. Church is made up of the collective history, stories and personalities of people. It is almost like a living being interested in its own survival. Richard Rohr helps us understand what it takes to transform a church. “The word change normally refers to new beginnings. But transformation more often happens not when something new begins, but when something old falls apart. The pain of something falling apart – chaos – invites the soul to listen at a deeper level. It invites, and sometimes forces the soul to go to a new place because the old place is falling apart. Most of us would never go to the new place any other way.” They challenged each of our congregations to practice deep listening to God, each other, and the surrounding community. What if we don’t need to figure out a better way to do what we have always done, but instead, we need to figure out a new way to be who and what God is calling us to be? Imagine: Church as less a noun, more a verb, less a place, more a way of life instead of expecting people to want to be a part of our congregation. The congregation as a mission outpost and therefore focused on serving its mission field (i.e. the neighborhood, city, and world) instead of focusing on serving its members. Ministry as vocation rather than programs. Vocation as living out the spiritual gifts given to us in baptism. Outreach as a combination of service, advocacy, and relationship building instead of just doing nice things for others. Worship shaping us into the kind of people God is calling us to become instead of expressing our praises to God in a comfortable setting. Christian Education as making disciples of Jesus centered on faith practices in the home, workplace, and together at church instead of just passing on the Lutheran confessional tradition. Congregational life as creating a culture of hospitality, service, discipleship, and prayer within the congregation in addition to potlucks and coffee hour. Stewardship as using all the resources God has given us for God’s purpose. Finance as aligning our money with our mission priorities instead of worrying about how we’re going to keep the lights on. Congregational Leadership as a dynamic partnership between clergy and lay leaders that cultivates a new environment that fosters missional creativity, rather than serving on committees or council as a duty. Decisions are made through spiritual discernment. The more participants in a decision-making process, the wiser it will be. Is St. John’s ready for this kind of deep listening? My prayer is that you are ready! You are in my prayers. Please keep me in yours! --Pastor Christine The staff of St. John’s is here to serve you.
