The Prayer Before Mass
Come Holy Spirit, quiet my heart and my head, as I gather with my family, friends and neighbors to celebrate Mass. Quiet
the thoughts and distractions that will keep me from worship. Open my mouth in prayer and song. Open my ears to hear
God’s Word. Open my eyes to the mystery of the Eucharist. Open my heart to receive Jesus with love. May I go forth
strengthened to take the Mass into my life this week. Amen.

“Once One Chooses to be a Disciple of Christ,
Stewardship is not an Option”
Abraham became the father of nations by listening to the
invitation of the Lord to follow Him. He left his homeland
guided by God who promised descendants as numerous as
the stars of the sky. In his old age he was given a son but did
not withhold Isaac when God asked for a sacrifice. Abraham’s
faith continued to increase as God blessed him and was ever
more generous to him. We can learn from Abraham that
God’s gifts are best used to help us on our journey toward the
eternal kingdom. May we receive God’s gifts with a grateful
2 heart and never hesitate to offer them for His glory.
Dear St. Catherine’s Family,
I would like to thank each one of you for your
warm welcome into St. Catherine’s. Words
cannot express my gratitude for all you did
during these past ten weeks. All of you have
played an important role in my formation
towards the priesthood. My assignment here
will be a very important part of my vocation story and I will
treasure it forever.
I also would like to give special thanks to Fr. Dan and Fr. P.J.
Your wonderful example of how to be a good and holy priest
has been a tremendous blessing to me. Thank you!
Be assured of my daily prayers for you and your family.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

CHRISTLIFE SERIES - PART I: DISCOVERING CHRIST
BEFORE YOUR CALENDAR FILLS UP, BLOCK OUT TIME
FOR YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS!
Do you ever wonder about the meaning of life?
Why does Jesus matter?
What does Jesus want us to know?
Why do I need a Savior?
Discovering Christ creates an open door for adults (Single, Married,
Divorced, Widowed, Young, Mature, Empty Nesters, Newlyweds, Couples,
Women, Men - EVERYONE is welcome!) who are searching for the
meaning of their lives and how and where they can share the Good
News and their personal love of Jesus. Discovering Christ is for
anyone and everyone, from the baptized in the pews to the
unbaptized who has never entered a church! It helps participants
enter into or renew a personal relationship with Christ, experience
the love of God the Father, and be empowered by the Holy Spirit
to live as God’s children.
Join us for this exciting 7-session series beginning Sunday,
October 2 – November 13, from 5:30 – 8pm where we will gather
to share a delicious dinner, listen to a dynamic teaching, and explore
answers to some of the most important questions worth asking
about God and finding ultimate purpose in life.
Dinner and program is offered at no cost. Seating limited to first 80
participants and childcare will be provided. In conjunction, a Life
Changing Retreat will be Saturday, November 5, 2016. For more

Reflection
"You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not
expect, the Son of Man will come." The only thing we
really know about when Jesus will come again is that we won't
be expecting it. As Jesus instructs us today, the best plan of
action is thus to be prepared at all times. We need to be ready
and waiting to meet Jesus so that when he does return, it
won't catch us off guard.
A little thoughtful experiment might be helpful here. Let's
imagine that the doorbell rings
this evening after dinner. We
open the door and find Jesus
standing there. He asks to come
in. Are we ready for this
honored guest? What will He
find when He steps in
unannounced? Is everyone at peace around the house? Is
everyone speaking with love and acting with generosity? Is
there anything in our home that, in His presence, we might be
ashamed of --books, shows, movies, or music that aren't
appropriate? Pictures, Facebook posts, or a record of Internet
history that we hope he won't discover?
Now, imagine that He came unannounced into our HEARTS
this evening. What would He find there? Are our hearts ready
to welcome Jesus? In truth, we need not wait for the second
coming to have Jesus in our hearts. He wants to live there
already today!
So regardless of the timing of the second coming of Christ,
we would do well to follow the traditional spiritual practice of
a daily examination of conscience to see where we are doing
well and where we need to make changes. Taking such a
deliberate spiritual inventory is an excellent way to help us be
ready for Jesus like those servants "who await their master's
return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he
comes and knocks."
