Prayer for Vocations
O God, Father of all Mercies,
Provider of a bountiful Harvest,
send Your Graces upon those
You have called to gather the
fruits of Your labor; preserve
and strengthen them in their
lifelong service to You.
Open the hearts of Your
children that they may discern
Your Holy Will; inspire in them
a love and desire to surrender
themselves to serving others in
the name of Your son, Jesus
Christ. Amen

WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART?
In the passage from the Book of Revelation, something on the outside
the washing white of robes — symbolizes something on the inside — the faith
of a person.

Do you “wear” your life like robes that reflect your inner self?
WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE,
& WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH.

FROM THE PASTOR
My Dear Parish Family,
On this Good Shepherd Sunday and World Day of Prayer for
Vocations, I share with you a few thoughts from Father Larry
Janowski who titles his reflection, “There is nothing cuddly
about us sheep!”
No known image of Jesus was ever carved or painted in his
lifetime, and the earliest image we do have is not the crucifix
or even the cross, but a shepherd with a lamb draped over his
shoulders. It is a beautiful image that appeals to many, yet in
his essay “Out Like a Lamb” Catholic writer Andre Dubus tells
of when he and his wife agreed to tend a small flock of sheep
for a neighbor. All they had to do for several weeks was feed
them and be sure they didn’t get out of their pen. Dubus recalled his childhood image of Christ, the handsome, smiling
Shepherd carrying us (the cuddly lambs), in his arms.
However, Dubus says, “After a few weeks in that New
Hampshire house, I saw Christ’s analogy [to a shepherd] meant
something entirely different. We were dumb helpless brutes,
and without constant watching we would foolishly destroy
ourselves.” As a latter-day shepherd with real sheep, Dubus
was constantly frustrated by the animals’ stubborn, wayward
behavior, which exacted great sacrifice from him in order to
keep them in line.
Experience of real sheep and shepherds keeps us grounded in
unvarnished reality rather than sentimental notions and shows
us that the sacrifice of the shepherd on the cross was needed in
order to save us, the creatures, from ourselves.
God bless you all,
Fr. Scott

MENSAJE DEL PARROCO
Estimada Familia Parroquial,
analogía de Cristo como pastor. Nosotros somos como los corderos;
tontos, inocentes, brutos y si no tenemos guia y cuidado nos destruimos
a nosotros mismos.
La experiencia entre pastores y los corderos nos ancla en la realidad, sin
nociones sentimentales y nos muestra que era necesario el sacrificio del
pastor en la cruz con el fin de salvarnos de nosotros mismos.
Que Dios los bendiga a todos,
Fr. Scott
