St. Joseph’s Primary School NEWSLETTER Term 3 Week 3 July 26th 2016 Principal’s Reflection—Mr Steve Hicks Dear Parents, St. Joseph’s PS & FCJ College ~ Child Safe Schools: Thank you to the parents, carers, volunteers, contractors and staff who attended our Community Forums last Wednesday co-hosted by our two schools. I am grateful to the School Board, leaders and staff of FCJ College, who together with our School Board, leaders and staff supported this important Community Forum as a joint initiative in the interests of Child Safety. We are also appreciative of the support of the Catholic Education Office as we continue to meet the requirements of the Child Safe Standards. Volunteering at School ~ New Requirements: As highlighted in the newsletter last week (and at the Community Forum) as part of the NEW Child Safe Standards ALL volunteers and contractors who work in schools are required to SIGN a Code of Conduct for Volunteers or Code of Conduct for Contractors, in addition to providing their Working With Children’s Card for sighting and photocopying. Volunteers and Contractors will also be required to attend an orientation session (which contains Child Safe information) prior to commencing their role/s. We are also awaiting other specifics around the engagement of Volunteers and Contractors and the Child Safe Standards. Stay tuned. Child Safe Standards ~ Information for Parents and Carers: A letter will come home today regarding the NEW Child Safe Standards in support of spreading this important message through the community. These new standards call for changes to historical practices, which we will outline once we receive clarification from the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. Celebrating Confirmation & Eucharist ~ This Sunday: We wish the children currently completing their Sacramental instruction sessions a wonderful weekend this weekend as they gather over the weekend Masses to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. We also welcome Bishop Leslie Tomlinson to the parish for this special weekend. He will visit us on Friday! World Youth Day 2016 ~ Krakow: Please keep all of the young people and their accompanying leaders, including our Director, Mr. Paul Desmond, in your thoughts and prayers as they travel to Poland for this wonderful event. My daughter attended WYD2011 held in Madrid, which was a life changing experience for her. Leadership Review: Our School Self Review of Leadership received validation last Tuesday following a visit from the three members of the Diocesan External Validation Panel. This was a very affirming process, which has endorsed the School Board’s strategic planning for Leadership at St. Joseph’s. Of significance was also the school’s approach to forming and supporting the leadership of our students through their school experience here. Insight SRC: This annual survey opportunity concludes on Friday 29th. July at 3:20pm. Please ensure you return your envelopes and/or complete the online survey by this Friday. Senior Winter Sports ~ Wangaratta: This year’s winter sports have now been cancelled due to the wet conditions. Staffing Update: Mrs Sharon Teichert, Learning Support, is away for the next four weeks for medical treatment. We wish Sharon a speedy recovery. In support of our programs we have Mrs Colleen Binnie and Mrs Hazel Piccolo in. Thank you for your interest and support.
