Please inquire in advance. OTHER In the studios: No food allowed in the studios. We also highly suggest bringing water and a clean towel to class on a daily basis. Activities: Social and cultural activities will be organised to allow the students to create bonds outside of class: pool, games, group lunch, etc. Meals: Arrange for a healthy lunch as well as nutritious snack. Beyond the health benefits implicit in the physical training of the body, dance can encourage self-awareness, and an awareness of the advantages that the arts offer to society and the community at large. Creativity, self-expression, and sensitivity to humanity are the essential elements that inspire her. Wendy is one of the most established Graham technique teachers in Canada. She has had a long association with the School of Toronto Dance Theatre. As one of the core teachers in the Professional Training Program her teaching responsibilities include techniques class, dance history and the Adult Contemporary Classes. She has been invited to teach, choreograph and adjudicate throughout Canada. Wendy began her dance training in Edmonton, studying ballet, flamenco, jazz, tap and modern. Her post secondary studies earned her a B.F.A. in dance from York University. She continued her studies of dance in New York, the UK and throughout Canada. As a member of Toronto Dance Theatre she performed in the works of Patricia Beatty, David Earle and Peter Randazzo. Highlights of her career include: company member of Toronto Dance Theatre, choreographer and rehearsal director for the Nylons and The Clichettes, guest teacher for Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, Sheridan College, (U of T) Hart House and many of the Performing Arts Schools in the greater Toronto Area. Additionally, as part of the faculty at Unionville High School for the Performing Arts a significant portion of her career was implementing and educating the students in dance. More recently, she was an adjudicator for the UNESCO approved Korean International Modern Dance Competition 2013, 2014, & 2015 and the 2015 Surrey Dance Festival. MÉLISSA « MELLY MEL » FLÉRANGILE JAZZ (No classes on August 6 & 7) Dominique received her Teacher’s Certificate in classical dance from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in 1980. She is a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto, where she taught for four years before moving to Quebec to get married. Initially a teacher at the Centre de danse Les Ballets Jazz where she directed the Classical Dance division, she rose in 1985 to the position of Executive Director and Director of Education at the Centre de danse de Québec, which became l'École de danse de Québec in 1987. Under her leadership of 24 years, the EDQ has developed to such an extent as to be recognized as one of the three top Quebec institutions for advanced training in dance. Growing her art is close to Dominique’s heart as well, and she has always been involved in her community, as a member of several boards of directors and professional committees at the regional, provincial and national level. Her involvement in the development of dance has been recognized on several occasions, including, in 2009, as recipient of the prestigious YWCA Women of Distinction Award in the Arts and Culture category Since the summer of 2011, she has worked as a free-lance dance teacher. As guest teacher, she leads dance intensives, theme workshops and master classes for a dozen organizations, including l'École supérieure de ballet du Québec and Ballet Divertimento in Montreal, Quinte Ballet School of Canada in Belleville, and DansEncorps in Moncton. She continues her involvement with RED, a dance education network for which she co-developed a Classical Dance curriculum for recreational clients in 2006. WEEK I & II G ROUP I As a strong believer in giving back, Melly Mel took part in the Mosaic Gala for Guy Laliberté’s “One Drop Foundation”; a charitable organization that develops integrated and innovative projects in which water plays a role to fight poverty. While touring, she also started a movement, mellymelinspires.com working to motivate & empower youth in different communities around the world. Since 2012, Melly Mel is a member of “Bboyizm”; she also recently started training and dancing for “Tentacle Tribe”, a Swedish-Canadian based Dance Company. Her passion and dedication as a dancer has led her to appear in several Hollywood motion pictures including "Sex And The City 2", "Honey", and "Chicago". She also had the chance to participate in the creation of and perform in “The Beatles LOVE” by Cirque du Soleil as well as perform for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards and the Jay Leno Show. From 2010-2012, Melly Mel toured the world with Cirque Eloize’s new creation “iD”, performing in prestigious theaters such as “Wang Theater” in Boston, Marina Bay Sands Theater in Singapore and Theatre National de Chaillot in Paris. Since 2012, she has been touring nationally with Canadian Dance Company “Bboyizm”, with its recent creation “Music Creates Opportunity”, all while doing outreach work in various communities in Canada.
