Tuesday, October 6, 2015 How’s This For An Encore? Lexington Up 4.3 Percent on Opening Night By Bill Finley LEXINGTON, KY - The main worry coming into last night’s opening round of Lexington was that things were so good a year earlier that the sale almost had to come back down to Earth. even with all the outs. And I can't imagine how well we would have done if not for those outs.” Manges believes that the reason the opening night was so successful was that the catalogue was filled with gems. Some observers said this was the best group they had seen in decades. “I was just hoping we would do as well as last year and that was even pretty lofty,” he said. “I think we had a really good group of horses, a really good group. The pedigrees were there and the horses matched the pedigrees and when that happens the buyers will spend.” The title for session topper and, presumably sales topper, was shared by Hips 21 and 31. They both sold for $350,000. Hip 21 is the Muscle Hill colt Federal Hill, who was purchased by Mario Zuanetti’s Atlantic Trot, acting as the agent for Finnish owner Reima Kuisla. The colt is a halfbrother to Father Patrick and Pastor Stephen and was sold by Brittany Farms. “Probably Ake Svanstedt will train this horse but I am not 100 percent sure,” Zuanetti. “I loved the horse and the (continued on next page) Hip 21, a Muscle Hill colt named Federal Hill, was the cosession topper last night in Lexington at $350,000 (photo by Tito Santana) So much for that fear. The opening night of Lexington 2014 was the first time in more than 20 years that the average price per yearling sold topped the $100,000 mark. Now, you can make that two years in a row. Ninety-eight yearlings were sold last night at the FasigTipton sales grounds for a gross of $10,734,000 and an average of $109,531. The average represents an increase of 4.3 percent. “I was ecstatic...this was a great feeling,”cosales manager Randy Manges said. “To be up that much over last year is terrific. He was ready to go a little bit higher, so It feels like we got a bargain. The owner has horses here and in Europe. He loves the sport and he wants to be a player.” Jimmy Takter has trained most of thee offspring of the dam, Gala Dream, but bowed out on this one. “Maybe Jimmy saw something that we didn’t,” Zuanetti said. Hip 31 is Live For Greatness, a colt by Cantab Hall out of Forever Graceful. He was purchased by agent Robert Lindstrom on behalf of Lennart Agren's SRF Stable. Agren also owns Elitlopp winner Magic Tonight and the top mare D’One. “He will race over here but we have not decided on a trainer yet,” Lindstrom said. “(For European owners) it is absolutely best they stay in the States for first period and then we will bring them later to Scandinavia. That is the trend. “He was the best horse in this sale in Co-session topper, Hip 31, Live For Greatness our opinion. Personally, he reminded me of Muscle Massive (a half-brother to the dam) with way he moved. I am very happy with him. W ith some others we bought tonight they were a little more expensive than we thought they would be.” The biggest single increase among any sex or gait was with the pacing colts, who had a surprisingly weak showing on this night last year. This year they averaged $96,000 versus $77,714 in 2014. Trotting colts just edged out trotting fillies for the most valued commodity last night. They sold for an average of $121,485 versus $121,188 for the fillies. But Sorella didn't stay away long. He was an active buyer last night at Lexingon and his first purchase, a Somebeachsomewhere filly he bought for $52,000, was signed for Adriano Sorella is back by trainer Nancy Johansson. "I always planned on staying in the game, I just needed to make a trainer change," Sorella said. "Nothing against Casie (Coleman). I like Casie. It's just that she wants to lower the amount of horses that she has and I was looking to get more horses so I figured I would have to make a change. Nancy is training the majority of horses for me and I am also buying horses with Tony Alagna. I already bought one with him tonight. W e're looking to get a few more tonight and through the week." W hen asked about replenishing his stable, Sorella said: "I am not going to shy away. If I like something and the price is right I will buy it." Johansson and Sorella also bought a W ell Said colt for $100,000. A Quiet Night for Jimmy Takter Usually Jimmy Takter makes a lot of noise at the yearling sales, particularly on the first night. But that wasn’t the case last night in Lexington. Takter bought just five horses spending a total of $450,000, very un-Takter-like numbers. “It’s not like I am quiet, I keep getting outbid,” he said. “I put them at a price and they go over, so I didn’t get them. I don’t look for bargains, I look for a good horse but you have to put the proper price on them. I have a responsibility to my customers to try to make money for them.” Takter said there were three horses in particular that he was out-bid on, co-sales toppers Hips 21 and 31 and Hip 37, a Muscle Hill colt that went for $250,000 to Tony Alagna. A Big Night for Crawford Farms Having had to withdraw three of her better yearling prospects from last night’s sale, Michelle Crawford had every reason to be apprehensive about how her opening night would go. But it turned out to be a memorable one for what might be the sport’s fastest growing breeding and racing operation. Crawford sold Hip 104, a Muscle Hill colt for $280,000, the most the farm has ever gotten for one of its yearlings. The buyer was Tony Alagna. “I was hoping for something good to happen after we had some bad luck,” Michelle Crawford said. “I am just beyond happy. I love that colt. I thought he would sell well. His tape was very good and I knew what I had.” Crawford also made some noise as a buyer, paying $270,000 for a filly by Somebeachsomewhere out of Rainbow Blue. It was the most she has ever paid for a yearling. “I wanted a foundation broodmare and a race mare,” she said. “She big, she’s perfectly conformed; there’s nothing you can fault her on. As you know, the bigger the better in this industry.” No, She’s Not a Paint Horse She may not be the sales topper or even a session topper, but Hip 151 is definitely one of the most talkedabout horses in the Lexington sale. Consigned by All American Harnessbreds, the filly named Don’t Mind If I Do will sell tonight. For obvious reasons, Hip 151 is bringing a lot of curiosity seekers by the All American consignment The reason for her popularity? She looks like a paint horse. She has four long white stockings on her legs and a big splotch of white on her belly. “I’ve never seen one like that, not a standardbred, at least,” said All American’s Rob Tribbett. “Her mother has a fair amount of chrome in the legs but nothing like that. W hen she was born we called the breeding farm to make sure they didn’t have a paint teaser or stallion sitting around. She’s been DNA tested and she is in fact a Credit W inner.” Tribbett said several buyers and curiosity seekers have made special trips to his barn to take a look at her. “Every time she comes out people want to know what that is, why she looks like that,” he said. “Credit W inners are usually black, She’s the exact opposite. No one can believe she is a Credit W inner.” But does Don’t Mind If I Do have what it takes to turn into a good race horse? “The funny thing is she’s actually a really great moving horse with a great video and has a good pedigree,” Tribbett said. “So even without the paint aspect she is a nice prospect.” HarnessRacingUpdate.com • 10/6/15 Lexington Sales Stats Pacers Sire Total Total Sales Avg Price High Price Colts Colts Total Colts Avg Colts High Fillies Fillies Total Fillies Avg Fillies High Somebeachsomewhere 26 $2,632,000.00 $101,230.77 $270,000.00 12 $1,161,000.00 $96,750.00 $230,000.00 14 $1,471,000.00 $105,071.43 $270,000.00 Art Major 10 $910,000.00 $91,000.00 $275,000.00 3 $195,000.00 $65,000.00 $80,000.00 7 $715,000.00 $102,142.86 $275,000.00 American Ideal 5 $527,000.00 $105,400.00 $120,000.00 4 $417,000.00 $104,250.00 $120,000.00 1 $110,000.00 $110,000.00 $110,000.00 Western Ideal 1 $200,000.00 $200,000.00 $200,000.00 1 $200,000.00 $200,000.00 $200,000.00 Well Said 3 $152,000.00 $50,666.67 $100,000.00 2 $127,000.00 $63,500.00 $100,000.00 1 $25,000.00 $25,000.00 $25,000.00 Rocknroll Hanover 1 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 1 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 Roll With Joe 1 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 1 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 $125,000.00 Bettor's Delight 2 $115,000.00 $57,500.00 $65,000.00 1 $50,000.00 $50,000.00 $50,000.00 1 $65,000.00 $65,000.00 $65,000.00 Sire Total Total Sales Avg Price High Price Colts Colts Total Colts Avg Colts High Fillies Fillies Total Fillies Avg Fillies High Trotters Muscle Hill 16 $2,442,000.00 $152,625.00 $350,000.00 11 $1,800,000.00 $163,636.36 $350,000.00 5 $642,000.00 $128,400.00 $240,000.00 Cantab Hall 9 $1,347,000.00 $149,666.67 $350,000.00 7 $932,000.00 $133,142.86 $350,000.00 2 $415,000.00 $207,500.00 $310,000.00 Credit Winner 9 $815,000.00 $90,555.56 $160,000.00 5 $315,000.00 $63,000.00 $110,000.00 4 $500,000.00 $125,000.00 $160,000.00 Chapter Seven 5 $525,000.00 $105,000.00 $205,000.00 4 $495,000.00 $123,750.00 $205,000.00 1 $30,000.00 $30,000.00 $30,000.00 Donato Hanover 5 $337,000.00 $67,400.00 $115,000.00 3 $157,000.00 $52,333.33 $77,000.00 2 $180,000.00 $90,000.00 $115,000.00 Kadabra 3 $240,000.00 $80,000.00 $130,000.00 2 $160,000.00 $80,000.00 $130,000.00 1 $80,000.00 $80,000.00 $80,000.00 Yankee Glide 1 $150,000.00 $150,000.00 $150,000.00 1 $150,000.00 $150,000.00 $150,000.00 Andover Hall 1 $92,000.00 $92,000.00 $92,000.00 1 $92,000.00 $92,000.00 $92,000.00 HAVE SOMETHING TO GET OFF YOUR CHEST? Jason Settlemoir JK She'salady, the 2014 Horse of the Year, Has Been Retired Despite winning a Sept. 17 qualifier at Pocono in her most recent appearance at a racetrack, JK She'salady has been retired, trainer Nancy Johansson has announced. The Art Major filly was a perfect 12 for 12 last year and was named Horse of the Year, a tremendous feat for a 2-year-old pacing filly. She struggled this year, going just 1 for 4, before being sidelined after finishing fifth in the June 27 Lynch at Pocono. Johansson discovered the filly was suffering from a deep lung infection and hoped that, after treatment, she could have a productive end to her year. But she said she saw that was unlikely to happen. "W e really couldn't get her back to her best and the last thing we wanted to do was to send her out there and have her be a disappointment." Johansson said a sire has yet be chosen for JK She'salady but added, "W estern Ideal or something along that line looks to be a good option." Illinois Racing in Flux By Neil Milbert STICKNEY, IL - Hawthorne Race Course President Tim Carey will be multi-tasking during his track’s fall thoroughbred meeting that began over the weekend. The thoroughbred meeting is scheduled to end on Jan. 2 and on Jan. 6 Hawthorne will begin its first harness meeting since 2008. Carey must find a race secretary for the five night per-week winter meeting that will continue through Feb. 6 and for the five night per-week summer harness meeting from May 6 through Sept. 25. He has to lure horses for both meetings and establish a stakes schedule. He is committed to stabling both standardbreds and thoroughbreds during the winter harness meeting. He has to make plans for the conversion of the thoroughbred racing surface to a surface suitable for harness racing, a process that must be completed in less than four days. He has to remake the harness track back into a thoroughbred track as soon as the winter meeting ends so the runners can begin training for Hawthorne’s March 7-April 30 spring thoroughbred meeting and do it again as soon as the summer harness meeting ends so the track can conduct its fall thoroughbred meeting. Illinois became a harness racing state in a state of flux last week when the Illinois Racing Board denied the 2016 request for dates made by the sister tracks, Balmoral Park and Maywood Park, that have been operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy since December. Balmoral sought to race Friday and Saturday nights from Jan. 2 through Nov. 3 and Maywood on the same nights from Nov. 4-Dec. 31. This year Maywood also was scheduled to race through December but this summer track President Duke Johnston (continued on next page) HarnessRacingUpdate.com • 10/6/15 PAGE 6 of 10 received permission to end the meet on Oct. 9 and transfer the dates to Balmoral for the remainder of 2015. Instead of receiving a respite from racing it turned out that Maywood received a death sentence. With no live racing or host track simulcast money forthcoming in 2016 it appears that both tracks are doomed. Carey is assuming that as soon as the Balmoral meeting ends horses will move from there to Hawthorne “As I understand it, there are 800 harness horses racing in Illinois,” he said. “If that’s the case I think we will have around 600 here in the January time frame. “I have to talk to the people at Hoosier (Park). They end their meeting in mid-November and their meeting doesn’t start off again until late March. I’d like to see if they’d be willing to come our way in January.” Carey said he is working with leaders of both the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association to make stabling arrangements: “W hat barns will the harness horses go into and what barns should the thoroughbreds go into.” Plans also are being made to transform one or two of the biggest barns into light training facilities for the thoroughbreds during January. IHHA President Dave McCaffrey and ITHA President Mike Campbell have an excellent working relationship so the stabling situation doesn’t seem to be a significant problem. However, the shrinkage of the Illinois harness year from the 11 to 12-month season that has been the norm since 1968 to one month in the winter and five months in the summer conceivably could pose serious horse population problems come summer and again in January, 2017 if the Racing Board adopts the same schedule for that year. Illinois doesn’t have slot machine wagering to provide a revenue stream for purses--bills were passed by the legislature in 2011 and 2013 but former Governor Pat Quinn failed to sign them—and, as a consequence, the state’s tracks have been hard-pressed to compete with tracks in states that allow the slots. Exacerbating a situation that has been deteriorating since the advent of riverboat casino gaming in Illinois in September, 1991 was the start of video gaming at bars and restaurants, truck stops and veterans and fraternal establishments in October, 2012. There are now 10 riverboat casinos and more than 4,500 video gaming outlets offering nearly 18,000 video and slot games. Last year for 114 racing nights Balmoral averaged $90,733 in purses, $179,519 in handle on its racing programs, $274,353 in handle on out-of-state races and $709,496 in out of state handle on Illinois races. Maywood had 78 racing nights in 2014 and averaged $65,602 in purses, $152,423 in handle on its racing programs, $366,389 in handle on out of state races and $544,199 in out of state handle on Illinois races. Included in the handle on racing programs category are wagers on the Balmoral and Maywood programs made at off-track betting parlors and at other tracks in Illinois and via advance deposit wagering (which has been conducted since 2013). Ironically, closing night turned out to be Maywood’s best night of the year in terms of attendance and handle. A big crowd showed up to bid a fond farewell to the half-mile track that inaugurated pari-mutuel wagering on harness racing in Illinois in 1946 and the handle for the 12-race card totaled $1,111,216. Not only have the number of racing nights dwindled this year, wagering and purses have plummeted dramatically. “W e’re earning about $20,000 a night in purses and are paying $45,000,” Johnston said earlier this summer in asking the board to abbreviate his 2015 meeting. “I can’t keep doing that.” When Hawthorne last had a harness meeting in the summer of 2008 its vital statistics were significantly better than those of Balmoral and Maywood in 2014. For 39 racing nights Hawthorne averaged $92,170 in purses, $290,893 in handle on its programs, $550,654 in handle on out of state races and $832,497 in out of state handle on Illinois races. But it is important to note that Hawthorne posted those numbers before the advent of video gaming outlets and the opening of the state’s most lucrative casino in Des Plaines, about a 20-minute drive from Maywood. Also, the Illinois horse population has dwindled considerably. “In 2008 there were three times as many horses as there are available now,” Johnston pointed out. “Talk about short fields. You’re not going to get horses from Indiana and Ohio at Hawthorne. It’s going to be a disaster.” Long-time Chicago harness owner Jimmy Durante sees it the same way. “Once they leave for three months (after the January meeting) it’ll be hard to get them back,” Durante said. Johnston predicted there also will be a tidal wave effect on off-track wagering in Illinois. “W ith no dates (at Balmoral and Maywood) the OTB structure will fall to pieces,” he warned the Racing Board during the hearings that prefaced the awarding of the 2016 dates. Maywood has six OTB outlets and Balmoral has three. One of the locations had a total handle of $24,729,566 in 2014 and two others exceeded $20,000,000. (The handle at all of the others was in single digits. The low numbers were in downstate college towns --$3,247,621 in Normal and $3,572,692 in Champaign.) Although Hawthorne hasn’t had harness racing for six years, it is located in what historically has been the Chicago metropolitan area’s hottest standardbred market. Now-defunct Sportsman’s Park—located a block from Hawthorne—was one of North America’s premier tracks when it conducted the sport from 1949 through October, 1997 (after which it was converted into a short-lived combination auto racing/thoroughbred racing facility). Winter harness racing flourished at Hawthorne during the 1990s with day-night doubleheaders throughout the meeting. W hile dual-purpose standardbred/thoroughbred tracks aren’t common in the U.S.—the Meadowlands and Hollywood Park were the last major tracks to do both—they aren’t unique in Illinois. In addition to Hawthorne and Sportsman’s, W ashington Park, Balmoral and Fairmount Park (across the Mississippi from St. Louis) have had both breeds racing on the same track in the same year. Even Arlington International Racecourse has a standardbred history. After its sister track, W ashington Park, was destroyed by fire in 1977 the harness meeting was moved to Arlington the following year. The demise of Balmoral and Maywood leaves a huge void in major harness events on the Chicago circuit. The 10 American-National races at Balmoral date back to the sports heyday in Chicago at Sportsman’s and they have continued to lure many of North America’s leading pacers and trotters since moving to Balmoral. American-National Night, which will be held this year on held on Nov. 7, is the main event in Illinois harness racing. Six-figure purses are the norm topped by the $250,000 pot for the race for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers. Super Night is a mega event for Illinois-breds and it too moved from Sportsman’s (where it was inaugurated in 1989) to Balmoral. It has been held in mid-September for the past 27 years and features eight championship races—all worth $100,000 or more in purse money—plus six consolations. Maywood likewise has some important races. The $180,000 W indy City Pace, $100,000 Galt Trot, $100,000 Abe Lincoln and $75,000 Cinderella were scheduled for Nov. 13 but now the closing of Maywood leaves both their short term and long term future uncertain. “W e haven’t gotten that far yet,” Carey replied when asked about Hawthorne’s stakes schedule. “W e’ll see how it plays out. “If Maywood and Balmoral are really going to be gone permanently maybe they’d want these races to stay and we can talk to them about obtaining the races.” Hawthorne’s president likened the situation to his track obtaining the Chicago circuit’s top race for members of the Triple Crown thoroughbred crop, the Illinois Derby, from Bidwill family that was the principal owner of Sportsman’s after that track’s National Jockey Club was forced out of racing because of bankruptcy. International Stallion Stakes for Freshmen Trotters Attracts 33 Colts By Ray Cotolo (The Red Mile) LEXINGTON, KY - The Thursday, Oct. 8, program at The Red Mile is headlined by five divisions of the $264,200 International Stallion Stakes (ISS) for 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters. The premier split features Milligan’s School, who won the fastest division of the $289,000 Bluegrass on Oct. 1, timed in 1:56.3. Owned by Stroy Inc. and trained by Julie Miller, the son of Yankee Glide, out of S J’s Photo mare Tori Ann, has earned $132,494 in 10 starts this season, with four of them being wins. Jimmy Takter’s Honor Above All, Ron Burke’s Make Or Miss, and Ake Svanstedt’s Metatron all also return to Lexington after competing in the Bluegrass. Split two is highlighted by the Jimmy Takter-trained Love Matters, whose record was tainted by a break in the $351,000 Pennsylvania Sires Stakes final. The winner of six races in seven starts qualified in 1:56.2 at The Red Mile on Sept. 25. He’s sired by Explosive Matter, and foaled out of the Andover Hall mare Lotsa Love. He’s owned by Christina Takter, Brixton Medical Ab, John Fielding, and Herb Liverman. He’s competing against Bluegrass starters Labatt Hanover, Hollywood Highway, Coughlin, Desert Runner, and Sliding Home, who finished second in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes final on Sept. 11. Division leader Southwind Frank races in the third division, shipping from Canada after winning the $283,480 W illiam W ellwood on Sept. 19. Trained by Ron Burke, the Muscle Hill colt, out of the Cantab Hall mare Flawless Lindy, has won six of his seven starts this season, banking $450,319. He races for the interests of Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Our Horse Cents Stables, and Jerry and Theresa Silva Stables. He’ll face Bluegrass-division winners Lagerfeld, trained by Jimmy Takter, and Taco Tuesday, trained by Frank Antonacci. Jonas Czernyson-trainee Brooklyn Hill competes in the fourth split. Owned by Srf Stable, the winner of one in nine starts and an earner of $162,100 last raced in the W illiam W ellwood Memorial, where he was fourth to Southwind Frank. The colt by Muscle Hill, out of the Conway Hall mare Brooklyn, has five place finishes on his record, including in a W illiam W ellwood elimination, $88,055 Champlain division, $34,244 Reynolds division, and the $349,850 Peter Haughton Memorial. Bluegrass starters Dominion Beach, Brownie Hanover, Celebrity Pilatus, Cloud Nine Hanover, and Southwind Flash also draw into this division. The final ISS division matches up Dupree and Bar Hopping, who finished one-two in a Bluegrass division last week. Sent off the favorite in that race, Bar Hopping, a Muscle Hill colt out of Credit W inner mare Cocktail Hour owned by Christina Takter, Hatfield Stables, Marvin Katz, and Al Libfeld, stalled in his first-over move after Dupree, resulting in his second-place finish. A winner in one of six starts, he has banked $87,238 to date. Owned by Knutsson Trotting and Courant A B, Dupree, sired by Andover Hall out of the Muscles Yankee mare Hustle N Muscle, has won two of seven starts, and earned $114,031. Petrossian As and Sutton, who also started in the Bluegrass stakes, also start in this split. The 10-race card has a first-race post time of 1:00pm. YOUR AD HERE! Somewhere Sweet captured the other division of the stake for 3-year-old pacing fillies. After her PASS triumph, Safe From Terror scored yet another upset with a late rally in the Nadia Lobell. In the Keystone Classic, however, Matt Kakaley switched gears and sent the daughter of W estern Terror-In A Safe Place to the front at the quarter pole. She prevailed in 1:53.3, 1/2 length better than her stablemate, Southwind Roulette, with Dobre Povedane third. “She was the best in there, so I didn’t want to take any chances,” Kakaley said. “She was very good — that was easy for her. She’s a sweetheart to drive. She’ll do whatever you want.” Ron Burke trains Safe From Terror, who won for the Safe From Terror 11th time this year and pushed her career bankroll to $482,742, for Our Horse Cents Stables, Stable 45 and J&T Silva Stables. Somewhere Sweet triumphed in 1:51.1, just a tick off W eeper’s stake record, but couldn’t separate herself from the stalkers, forcing Aaron Merriman to get after her late. “She paced strong into the stretch,” Merriman said, “but when I pulled the plugs, she actually kind of sat down. She maybe didn’t want me to pull them.” Somewhere Sweet downed Angel Or Terror by a length while Kays Dragon Lady earned show. Brian Brown conditions the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Sweet W ork Of Art, who soared over $200,000 in lifetime earnings, for Miller’s Stable. $91,800 Keystone Classic — 3-Year-Old Filly Trotters Kelsey’s Keepsake and Smokinmombo each took a division of Monday’s companion feature, a $91,800 Keystone Classic for sophomore filly trotters. Kelsey’s Keepsake was fourth down the backside when Joe Bongiorno sent her after the leader, Murderers Row. Despite competing off a sickness scratch, she blew by and drew off to win by 5 lengths in 1:55.2 for trainer Robert Bongiorno and owner Carly Roman. Avalon Hall was second with Kirsi Hanover third. “First over is her best game,” Joe Bongiorno said. “W e knew she had this race coming up, and once she scoped a little sick after she trained, we wanted to scratch her, get her healthy and get her ready for the stake.” Smokinmombo hadn’t won since Aug. 20, but she quarter-poled to the top for Merriman and scored in 1:55.3, 2 lengths better than the pocket-sitting Matter Hatter. Global Ice completed the ticket. “She got a little rough on me in the Hambletonian Oaks and a few starts after that,” said Chris Beaver, who trains the daughter of Explosive Matter-Horizontal Mombo and owns with Synerco Ventures and James Gallagher. “I think it’s straightened out, but she’s not great on a big racetrack. She’ll go to a couple stakes at Hoosier Park.” In the $24,800 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot, Better Caviar took advantage of a backside shootout between Tamarind and Monte Cristo Spur and zipped by in the stretch to win in 1:55.1 for trainer/driver David W ade. Sixteen Mikes rallied for second, a neck back, while Monte Cristo Spur saved show. Gerald Brittingham, Kelley Rogers, W illiam Peel III and W ade own the 7-year-old son of SJ’s Caviar-Better Credit, who now boasts $162,485 in career earnings. The Keystone Classic series concludes Tuesday at The Meadows with a pair of stakes for 3-year-old colts and geldings — a $69,750 pace and an $89,800 trot. Headliner is millionaire W akazashi Hanover, who currently ranks third among all Standardbreds in seasonal earnings. First post is 12:55 PM.
