More opportunities to Teach Art More opportunities to develop my Art, & learn about art All I want for PAL for Christmas is: A permanent home for us to meet and show our art and give workshops (along the artwalk route!) Lots of volunteers to help- the more the merrier! (really, the more helpers- the more fun we can have!!) Lots of new opportunities to interact with our community- from kids through adults Yet another successful Festival to support our group and our scholarship program As you can see- a lot of my wishes for PAL support my own personal dreams. This is a great group of artists and art-lovers, and I am honored to be involved with the organization. My very best wishes to all for a joy-filled Holiday and may all our Dreams come true! Anne Moore Knapp Inspired by Arvid Anderson, I did a related technique (Monotypes) with my 1st and 2nd graders at Olalla Elementary. There were 20+ (young) kids and blessedly 3 Mom volunteers with brayers and all had a good (slightly messy) time. Nice results from the kids- all proudly bearing them home in print sleeves to give to their parents! Any new ideas for next year? Shall we hire the Scouts to oversee recycling? Other Arts groups may be allowed to have free a free booth in the new Children’s activity area if they are offering free children’s art activities. Permanent home for PAL – We really need to find a permanent home for PAL where we can have meetings, workshops, shows, etc. We would like to stay in the downtown Gig Harbor area. Perhaps revisit the Gig Harbor museum possibilities or the old kayak building where we had the art sale last year. If anyone hears of anything along these lines, let us know. Tacoma Art Supply is having a big closing-store sale. Meeting adjourned at 11:20am Respectfully submitted by Mary McInnis 4 NPS International Show November 13 through December 21, 2010 at the American Art Company, 1126 Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402. 2011 Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour Screening for new artists Mimi VanBallenberghe is pleased to report that one of her paintings was selected for the New Perspectives Exhibit at Bellingham's Blue Horse Gallery. Barbara was a friend to many PAL Members and was a supportive member of our group for years. Many times, she opened her home to painting groups and photography groups to take advantage of the view and the boat parades going by her house. She enjoyed being around creative people and loved to laugh and share with others. Barbara was mother to Robin Peterson and was her biggest fan in all her adventures and in her art career. A few years ago, Robin and Barbara went on Safari in Africa together having a wonderful trip, culminating in a series of paintings by Robin of the wildlife they saw together. Barbara’s family, her children and grandchildren, was of utmost importance to her—she was their supporter and their center and she filled their lives with joy. Family and friends, we will all miss Barbara. From the Editor— Here we go into a new year with PAL—2011—sounds like a date out of a Sci-Fi movie! Right away in January we have two shows coming up for PAL Members to hang their work and show their stuff! You will find all the information accompanying this newsletter for the Kimball Show - Jane Wallis will be the Juror— show, Jan 10 to Feb 7—reception, Jan 16 from 3-5 p.m. The second show is an exhibit of miniatures which will be hung at the Ebb Tide Gallery downtown. Go to the Ebb Tide Gallery website to download the prospectus. Please read the entry details carefully so you don’t miss out on this opportunity. Other items on our plate for this year are the Summer Art Festival coming up in July—that always takes lots of effort by many people and will be led again this year by the intrepid Christy and Russ Camerer. They will be contacting you to help out. Jeanne Crider has feelers out to several artists/teachers and is making plans for two workshops in the coming year—they will be affordable and close to home—that’s always easier on the budget and PAL presents great workshops. Donna Trent has already been taking names for the upcoming fall 2011 workshop with Richard McKinley. He is a nationally known pastel and oil painter and teacher and we are so lucky to have him coming to Gig Harbor! Donna is in charge of the workshop— However, we are still lacking a leader for the Open Regional Show—that can be one person or a group of people but the deadline for beginning work on that show is coming soon—please contact Anne Knapp to volunteer to head that committee or it may not happen!
