Welcome, and Welcome Back, to RHS Marching
Gael’s Band Camp 2015!
Folks you need to know- the RHSBPA BAND PARENT COMMITTEE:
The Roxbury High School Band Parent Association (RHSBPA) consists of volunteer
parents who provide support and services to further the mission of Roxbury High
School’s Instrumental Music Program. Activities include; organizing and
administration of band events, fundraising, publicity, communication with parents,
school administration and the community, as well as supporting special needs so
that every child has an opportunity to pursue music as part of their high school
education. Additionally, RHSBPA sponsors scholarships awarded to students
continuing their music education into college. New RHSPBA committee members are
selected at the end of each school year. Please feel free to reach out to any of
the committee with your questions, or to offer your assistance. Thank you, your
support is critical to the RHSPBA’s success each year.

And Now…a Welcome Message from your 2015 Drum Majors,
Owen Nichols and Amy Pilrun…
Hey Guys!
Are you ready? We hope you are, because this year’s show, Attract/Repel, has the groundbreaking potential to be
the best and most exciting show ever put together by a band from Roxbury!
As you know, there are lots of new and exciting things going on this season. We are welcoming several new music
and visual staff members, and are incorporating more body and visuals into this show than ever before! With
everything new going on, it’s more important than ever that everyone comes prepared and works hard to make this
show as successful as it can be!
As August approaches, we hope that everyone is preparing themselves for Pre-Camp and Band Camp later in the
month. That means learning and memorizing music, reviewing visual technique and dance warm-ups, and physical
conditioning for those long Band Camp days. This is very important because the more work we put in now, the more
we can focus on refining and perfecting our show later in the season!
Speaking of Pre-Camp and Band Camp, there are a few differences in scheduling from recent years. While the second
week of August normally consists of Tuesday-Thursday rehearsals, there are Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday rehearsals
this year. The first week of August keeps its Tuesday-Thursday rehearsal schedule. Also, we have organized spirit
days and and post-camp activities with the Band Parents Association to keep our fun, tight-knit atmosphere. We
hope you all participate in each one!
Lastly, we have some pretty big things to look forward to this year! Not only are we competing at a Bands of America
Regional Championship at the University of Delaware, we’re also returning to the USBands circuit to compete in the
Yamaha Cup at MetLife Stadium and the NJ State Championship at Rutgers University! These are huge and exciting
competitions because we get to play in some incredible college and professional stadiums! These events will demand
our best so it’s critical that we work our tails off to make this show amazing!
Best Wishes,
Owen and Amy

“This One Time, at Band Camp…”
Can you believe that Band Camp 2015 is here? The kids will be working very hard to
prepare for their show and are not allowed to leave Roxbury High School during camp.
The RHSBPA provides dinner service to all marchers and staff during the first full
week of band camp, Saturday, August 15 thru Thursday, August 20. In addition, we
have some evening events planned as well.
You may be asking, “How can I help?”. Let me tell you! Please go to one of the links
below and sign up to assist either with set up of dinner, dinner service and clean up or
one of the evening events. It is a great way to get involved, meet other band parents,
support the hungry marches and see how your child is loving Band Camp!

“Hey, I’m with the Band, Man!”
2015 Marching Band Logistics (Road Crew)
As you can imagine, keeping the show moving from week to week is quite a large
task. It is only possible with the help and assistance from parent volunteers.
This year, the kids will great opportunities to play in large stadium venues, such
as MetLife Stadium, Rutgers Stadium and University of Delaware. The
Marching Band Logistics Crew (Road Crew) helps the Marching Band by
transporting equipment and props to and from venues, as well as setting up
props and helping the kids get the props and equipment to the performance
field. The Road Crew also helps get the equipment on the field prior to the
performance and off the field after the performance.
Under the Lights, on Friday nights the Roxbury Sound performs at all home
football games. The Road Crew also helps get the equipment to the field before
the game and during the half-time show, the Road Crew helps the kids get the
equipment on and off the field. It takes a lot of hands, so please consider
volunteering for the Road Crew. If you have any questions or need more
information, please contact Tom Graf at: 201-819-2614 or email:

ROXBURY MARCHING BAND CLASSIC SEPTEMBER 19, 2015
From Tom Graf, Chairman of this years Roxbury Marching Band Classic:
The 7th Annual Roxbury Marching Band Classic will be held Saturday, September
19, 2015. On-line band registration is open and we are currently accepting band
registrations for the Classic. We expect that this year will be another terrific year.
Because the Classic is our largest RHSBPA fundraiser, here’s what we need to make
this event a success:
We ask that each band family volunteer for at least one 2-hour or 3-hour shift
the day of the Classic. Parents and Students are welcome!
Positions to fill include: Ticket taking, The Classic Cafe, Logistics, parking, and
more. An on line sign up will be provided with many time slots available.
Purchase a program ad to support your child (only $10). Sell one Program Ad.
Items to be sold at the Classic Cafe are needed! Each night after Band Camp,
Amy Rust will be collecting drop offs in her Green Jeep Liberty. A list of items
needed are below. Contact Amy at [email protected] with questions.
We will send a group email with full details including a link to volunteer, and
forms for the program ads around the beginning of Camp.
On behalf of the 2015 Roxbury Marching Band Classic Planning Committee, we Thank
You in advance for your kind consideration and assistance in making the Classic an
overwhelming success! Sincerely,
Tom Graf
