MEDFORD LAKES COLONY NEWS
Vol. 24
August 19, 2016
NO ALCOHOL AT BEACHES
We continue to have an issue with alcohol on Colony beaches. There is
NO ALCOHOL allowed on any beach or Colony property at any time
(without state permit and insurance cert). Police will be called and
summons issued. We need your help in enforcing this. Thank you in
advance.
FALL LAKE LOWERING
The State of NJ, Fish and Wildlife section of the Department of
Environmental Protection requires the Medford Lakes Colony to apply
for a permit to lower a lake. The Medford Lakes Colony Board of
Directors has worked out a few guidelines.
1. Five percent of the residences on a lake must ask for the lake to be
lowered before the Colony will apply for a lake lowering permit. The
State wants 60 days advance notice to grant a lowering permit. So
PLEASE send your request asking for your lake to be lowered by
August 22, 2016 to [email protected]. So far applications will be mailed to seek permission to lower – Ballinger Lake,
Beach 4 Lake, Lower Aetna Lake, and Upper Aetna Lake. Note:
Requests for Beach 3 Lake, Migazee Lake and Sioux Lakes are pending
work due to engineering work.
2. If you really need the lake to NOT be lowered - please tell the Colony
office
in
writing
an
email
is
sufficient
to
[email protected]. Please make sure you receive an
email back notifying you that your email was received.
3. There is an application on the Colony website that needs to be
completed and turned in by the September 5th Executive Board meeting
for work to bulkheads and docks; even minor repairs requires a $25
permit.
For a bulkhead permit you can visit our website:
http://medfordlakescolony.org/images/Bulkhead_permit_application.pdf
For a dock permit you can also visit our website:
http://medfordlakescolony.org/images/Dock_permit_application.pdf
4. FYI: There is currently lake lowering permits in the approval stages

for Mishe Mowka Lake, Migazee Lake, and Sioux Lake for work on the
Mishe Mowka and Sioux Lakes dams. This does not guarantee the work
will happen this autumn, it is only an indicator that the engineers are
anticipating work will happen in the autumn and are trying to line up all
necessary requirements. These three lakes may actually be lowered as
early as September; depending on MANY factors. If you live on one of
those three lakes and want to work on your bulkhead or dock - now is
the time to apply for the permit.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Now is your chance to see a beloved fairytale right here in Medford
Lakes. Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" will be performed at the Neeta
School Theater by the Pineland Players. The story tells of Belle, a
young woman in a French provincial town, and the Beast, who is really
a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. Our "tale as
old as time" is family theatre at its best. The cast features many Lakers
as well as other Burlington County community members ranging from
one year to 80 years old! There are 6 shows to choose from. Shows are
August 19, and 20 at 7:30 pm. In addition, there is a matinee at 2:00
pm on Aug. 20. We are also having an ice cream social with Belle &
her friends after the 2 pm matinee on Aug. 20th. Tickets for the show
are $15.00 for adults & $10.00 for children 12 & under/senior citizens.
You can reserve tickets via our webpage www.pinelandplayers.com or
call our ticket reservation number (609) 367-5912.
CRAFT PAVILION UPDATE
Throughout July you’ve seen the new Craft Pavilion rising in the
background at Brooks Field, our families are already enjoying the new
tennis courts, and a large children’s playground will soon appear next to
the Pavilion.
These improvements will provide Colonists with great experiences and
memories for many years to come, but they don’t come cheap. Therefore we’re once again reaching out to families to chip in whatever you
can to help make these dreams a reality. ANY donation will be recognized in the commemorative Pavilion Dedication Booklet, and a
donation of $125 or more will earn a place on the giant Bronze Supporters Shield to be permanently mounted in the new structure.
Just make a check out to “Medford Lakes Colony – Craft Project”; then
track our progress on Facebook by searching “Craft Pavilion Project”.
Any other questions call Millie in Colony office at 654-7747.
We hope to have all facilities completed by the end of this fall, and with
your help it will happen!
IMPORTANT PUBLIC WORKS NOTICES
The large trash collection will be on September 12 (not 9/5). You will
need to call 609-654-9383 between Tuesday, September 6 and Saturday, September 10th to leave a message with your name, address, what
you are leaving out for pick-up, and a return telephone number. Note:
October 3rd will be the final Large Trash Collection for 2016…..?
Large trash will be suspended until the first Monday in March of 2017
for leaf collection.
Brush Collection Information - The Brush Collection will begin on
September 26 – District Collection is #2-3-4-1.
Brush must be out by the collection date to ensure that it will be picked
up.
Sticks and stones may break your bones, but the Borough only collects
the sticks! In a town with as many trees as Medford Lakes, you can be
sure we have a lot of brush. Especially after a big storm. For this reason
we pickup brush at trail side several times a year.
Brush can be NO longer than 4 feet in length. Brush should be placed
on the ground, as close to the road as possible, in a visible location.
Brush will not be collected if behind obstacles (trees, mailboxes, cars,
fences, etc.) Brush will not be accepted in bags of any type. Collections are in the months of March and September.
PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR LAKES CLEAN
Please do not throw your leaves, grass cuttings, or any other debris into
our lakes. These items end up in a cove. Then the cove needs to be
cleaned. Cleaning a cove is very expense. All items should be taken
away or placed out for collection. Please see the Borough website on
brush collection for more information or call 609-654-8393.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
Household Hazardous Waste include: paints, solvents, antifreeze and
used motor oil. These items can be deposited every third Saturday of
each month from 9 am to noon. The drop off site for August 20th is
Medford Lakes (behind the Firehouse). Call 609-654-9383 if you have
any questions.
NOTIFICATION FROM THE BOROUGH
REGARDING TAX BILLS
