COLONY MEETING
The next meeting of the Medford Lakes Colony Board of Directors is scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2014 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Demby
Annex. New board members are needed! If you are interested in joining the
Colony Board of Directors please send your resume to
[email protected]. A nominating committee will be appointed
in October to review applications. For more information please refer to our
By-laws (found on our website www.medfordlakescolony.org) Section V. If
you do have any questions please call 654-7747 or send an email.
TRIATHLON SUCCESS!
Thanks so much to all those involved in our most successful Medford Lakes
Triathlon. We had about 325 racers with 14 from Medford Lakes. Most racers
came from PA and NJ. Racers ranged from age 14 to 71. You can see all the
results at www.dqtridu.com – under the “Results” section, click on The
Medford Lakes link. The results show the city and state people are from and
you can see people come from all over to this great event in our GREAT town!
Special thanks to our amazing Medford Lakes Police (just coming off the
demands of the Canoe Carnival just a few weeks ago) who were once again
out making sure the triathlon ran safely for all - Thank-you MLPD!
Our Borough crews, ambulance crew and fire emergency teams were also
very supportive.
There were many, many amazing colony volunteers that came out early and
helped in many areas – thank you so much.
We had two local sponsors that deserve our thanks and our business:
Medford Lakes’ colonists Del Rossi family with
Chad’s Complete Auto Repair in Cherry Hill.
Thanks to you all!
A special shout out to Ken Wolson for his dedication and perseverance
making this fundraising event for Medford Lakes Colony a reality.

TWIST OFF PLASTIC BOTTLE CAPS NEEDED
Remember, "Twist-off" Plastic bottle caps are not generally recyclable.
The caps we are collecting are: bottled water, sports drinks, laundry
detergent tops - any plastic twist off cap, not flip tops. The company called
"Aveda" is continuing to collect these caps, so are we! The Medford Lakes
Cub Scout Pack #48 with AVEDA and Clean Ocean Action (COA) are
working together to keep these bottle caps out of our oceans, landfills and
away from our wildlife. Our drop off point is 82 Tecumseh Trail, Nokomis.
We will be collecting the caps indefinitely. This is a very important "Community Service Project" for our boys - please help us, help our environment.

LOCAL PROTESTANT CHURCH
INVITES COMMUNITY TO
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE CELEBRATION
The Protestant Community Church of Medford Lakes (Cathedral of the
Woods) will have a special program on Sunday, Sept. 21, in conjunction
with the International Day of Peace. Distinguished speakers and interactive
workshops will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In the wake of the school violence at Sandy Hook School in Connecticut
in December 2012, the church began a peace initiative aimed at God’s call
for peacemaking and the non-violent life.
Rev. Robert Moore, executive director of the Coalition for Peace Action,
will join Rev. Steve Winkler of PCC for a special worship service at 10 a.m.
to start the day’s events.
Three interactive workshops will be offered from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m.
They will include “Peace Be With You” by Cara McCray, a practicing
holistic nutrition consultant as well as a meditation, yoga, and qi gong
instructor; “Alternatives to Violence” by Rev. Moore; and “Quaker and
Mennonite Communities –A History of Intentional Peace” by Sue Dietz of
the Medford Quaker community; and Tim Darling of the Mennonite Church
of Vineland.”
Children in attendance will be busy with creative projects that will be part
of a closing service.
A forum and complimentary lunch will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. It
will bring together three experts whose lives were changed forever because
of gun violence. Participants will include:
*Bryan Miller, executive director of Heeding God’s Call, a faith-based
movement to prevent gun violence.
*Movita Johnson Harrell, executive director of Motivations Education
Consultation Associates (MECA). She lost her son in a senseless shooting
and turned her grief and anger into positive activism by starting the Charles
Foundation.
*Rusty Williams, an ordained minister who is a former paramedic, bomb
dog handler and retired police detective who served on the Governor’s
Panel to Reduce School Violence.
For more information, call Kathy Roberts at (609) 744-9979. Attendees
are asked to RSVP for lunch and workshop choice to the church office at
(609) 654-4220 or e-mail Julie Pope [email protected].
