The Student Center houses indoor sports facilities, a barber shop, a beauty salon, a travel agency, a bank, a copy center, a bookstore, a supermarket, and food courts. LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION English A central indoor stadium, the AUD Knights Arena, is designed so that it can be dis-mantled into two independent courts used for indoor football, handball, basketball or volleyball. The AUD Library includes over 270,000 books (print and electronic); over 300 journals; and 70 online databases. In order to meet this requirement by enrolling in the AUD-sponsored health insurance plan, students are charged a non-refundable fee of AED1,500 (US$410) on their semester bill; of which 50% will be refunded once the student returns the AUD-issued insurance card to the Finance Office at the end of the semester attended at AUD. Housing Security Deposit In order to receive the keys to the shared dorm room for check-in, a housing security deposit payment of AED1,000 (US$272) is required prior to check in. This amount is fully refunded once the student returns the keys to the Housing Manager and the dorm room is deemed free of any damage. A student whose account is delinquent will not be allowed to register for the subsequent semester until the balance owed is paid in full. Students are advised that the levels of tuition and fees reflected apply to Academic Year 2014-2015. Recent (i.e., last three years) tuition increases have been in the range of the 4-5% per annum. Any future hikes in tuition, if any, are expected to be within this range. The university evaluates institutional tuition and fee rates in the second semester of each academic year, and rates may be subject to change at the beginning of the following academic year. Housing Reservation Fee & Security Deposit A housing reservation fee of AED2,500 (US$680) is required to reserve a place in the residence halls. A one-time, refundable security deposit of AED1,000 (US$272) is required, and payable with the student’s first housing payment. The balance of the student housing fee must be paid in full one month before the beginning of the semester or summer session. Failure to pay the housing fee in full may result in the cancellation of the housing reservation. In such cases, the housing reservation fee will not be refunded. Student Residence Visa (Optional) Only full-time students are eligible.Visa fee, AED1,000. (US$272) Passport deposit of AED2,000 (US$544) is refundable only upon cancellation of visa. Refunds All refund requests will be processed within 30 days. Refunds are governed by the following regulations: (1) Tuition Wthdrawal/dismissal from all classes Schedule Refund During Drop/Add* 100% Until the end of the second week** 50% Until the end of the third week 25% After the third week 0% Withdrawal from partial classes Schedule Refund Until end of Drop/Add* 100% After Drop/Add 0% *For new students in the first semester of attendance 100% refund with the exception of the reservation and enrollment deposit of AED5,000/US1,360, which is nonrefundable. ** Sunday-Thursday *** The refund amount will be a credit to the student’s account and carried forward to the following semester. Non-returning students will receive a refund within 30 days of submitting a request form. Check the AUD Academic Calendar for dates of Drop/Add. (2) Housing Fees and Charges The one-time, housing security deposit is refundable at the end of the semester if no housing damage has occurred. The housing reservation fee is non-refundable and non-transferable unless the student’s application for admission is rejected or the student cancels their admission (including conditional) one month prior to the start of the semester for which he or she has paid. Note AUD has a Refund Policy specific to legal residents of the U.S. State of Georgia.This Policy has been written to be in compliance with Standard Nine of Georgia’s Minimum Standards and Criteria for NPEC Institutions.The existence of this Policy is announced during Student Orientation and referenced at the time of exit from AUD (during the account settlement process) of any Georgia resident who requests a refund. A copy of this Policy is available in the Finance Office, the Registrar’s, and the office of the Director of Institutional Effectiveness.The standard academic year is comprised of the Fall (September) and Spring (January) semesters.There are two Summer sessions (May and July). NOTE Visiting students from one of AUD’s partner exchange institutions need to refer to the study abroad/international office of their home institution for guidelines regarding payment procedures. Due to the high number of applicants, students are requested to pay this deposit within two months of the start of the term of entry. VISA INFORMATION Study Abroad/Visiting students who are accepted and enrolled at AUD are eligible to be sponsored by the university and will be issued a Student Residence Visa valid for the duration of the enrollment (up to two semesters). VISA PROCESSING During the first week of the semester, students should contact the Visa Officer for visa processing. To process the Student Resident Visa on your passport you need to do the following: Step 1 Process your U.A.E. ID Card The ID card is a mandatory electronic means of identification that the Emirates Identity Authority issues each national and expatriate person residing in the U.A.E. Before AUD can process your Student Residence Visa, we need a copy of your U.A.E. ID Card process papers (U.A.E. ID Card Request Form + Fingerprints) Step 2 Bring the following documents to the Visa Officer (Admin Bldg. Room 120) 1. U.A.E. ID Card process papers (original + copy) 2. Original Passport 3. Original Visa 4. 4 Photos 5. 2 passport photocopies with validity page 6. 2 visa photocopies 7. Copy of the tenancy contract (Ejari). Waived for those living in AUD Housing. • If you are the tenant: copy of Ejari • If you are living with your family: copy of Ejari + copy of the tenant’s passport • If you are living with non-family members: copy of Ejari + copy of the tenant’s passport + no objection letter from tenant to host you. Step 3 Settle your fees at the Finance Office (Admin Bldg. Room 124) 1. Pay AED 350 (US$95) for the medical test 2. Get receipt signed by the Visa Officer Step 4 Book the medical test* at the AUD Health Center by providing the following documents: (Bldg. A Room 116) 1. Receipt from Finance Office duly signed by the Visa Officer 2. Passport copy 3. Visa copy 4. 2 Photos * A medical test at an authorized UAE medical center is required by the Department of Naturalisation and Residency Dubai (DNRD). A positive result for HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), Hepatitis B or C, or leprosy is grounds for immediate deportation. Students under the age of 18 will be exempted from doing the medical test. Check with the Visa Officer 10 days after your medical test is conducted to confirm the transfer of your Student Residence Visa to the passport. p.15 THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN DUBAI LOCATION MAP AUD HOUSING ACCOMMODATION INFORMATION AUD’s non-smoking student housing consists of four residential buildings, and four residence halls, separate for women and men. All residence halls are located in the northwest corner of the AUD campus within 2-5 minute walk to the academic buildings, library, computer labs, cafeteria, small grocery shop and the outdoor sports facilities that include basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, as well as a soccer field and a swimming pool. Each residence hall has a laundry room, a study area, a TV lounge, and a fully equipped kitchen and dining room. Campus satellite television service is provided in each lounge. High-speed Internet connections are also provided in each room of all four residence halls. Separate women and men gyms are available for use by housing residents. This complete fitness facility is provided free of charge to students living in the residence halls. All rooms are double occupancy. However, there may be single occupancy rooms available in summer sessions at additional cost. Students will be notified of this availability by the Housing Manager. Each dorm room is furnished with two single beds, two wardrobes, two desk, two chairs and two bedside tables. Each dorm room has a private bathroom. Students are responsible for supplying their own bed linen, towels, toiletries, and eating utensils. Housing Application Procedure • • • Students who have settled the admission fees are eligible to apply for student housing by paying a housing deposit of AED 2,500 (US$680) during the admissions process. The remaining housing fees have to be paid one month prior to the beginning of each semester. In addition, students are required to pay a refundable security deposit of AED 1,000 (US$272). Upon settling the housing deposit, students are placed on a waiting list. Students should contact the Housing Manager for room booking confirmation. New applicants are assigned rooms on a first-pay, first-assigned basis. Students are then requested to submit the following forms to the Housing Manager: 1) Student Housing Agreement Form, 2) Dormitory Computer Network Use Agreement, and 3) Curfew Extension Form. These forms are avaiable in the Housing Kit and online. Housing Check-in Check-in/out dates are stated on the AUD website, and in the Housing Kit. Check-in takes place from 9:00am – 6:00pm Sunday through Thursday in the Housing Office in the Student Center - room 330. Students who arrive on check-in dates prior or after office hours should go directly to the Student Housing gate.The security guard is available 24/7. He will call the Housing Controller or the Resident Assistant who will escort the students to their room and give them the keys.
