RANDY MAXWELL DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS The RANDY’S RAMBLINGS It doesn't seem possible that the first month of 2016 is quickly moving toward the end, and finally the winter weather has found us down here in South Central Tennessee. I love sweaters and sweater vests and I have been wearing one just about every day. January is a great athletic month with the Pro Football season coming to an end as it leads up to the Super Bowl on February 7th, high school men and women basketball season are at their peak, and the college national championship games in each of the various divisions crown the best of the year. Of course I don't have to tell anyone around here that once again “Roll Tide” celebrated a national championship. Needless to say that I am an avid basketball and football fan. I really don't think there is anything wrong with that. After all, it is important to attend local games and show our support to our student athletes at Riverside, Fayetteville (City) High, and Lincoln County. These students work hard and often times end up with injuries for the sake of their school and the community. Now, I don't think there is anything wrong with supporting your favorite teams, but what is wrong is when we are much more interested in sports than we are in our relationship with our Lord. So many of our children and youth get on traveling teams and are gone every weekend (including most of the Sundays as well). We teach our children and youth how to train so their children or youth can bring pride to their parents. At the same time most of the parents make sure these same youth and children study to make good grades so they will have a better chance to get a scholarship. Somehow many of our younger parents today encourage these things that are not bad in their selves, but leave a lesson that the things of this world are much more important than a relation with our awesome God. After all, their young people will have plenty of time to get involved in church even though the parents have not made that a priority in their lives. Please don't think that all our young people who are involved in sports and make good grades in the classroom are not committed to the Lord. Many of our youth still make their number one relationship with Jesus Christ. Our children and youth are so vitally important. This is why we are trying to give more emphasis to these children. One of our new ministries here at William Carey Association is a Children's Winter Blast on February 6th at Stewart's Chapel off the Flintville Road about 5 miles from Highway 64. The Blast will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. There will be a hot dog meal, a mission project after the meal, various games, a short devotion, and ending with a puppet show, and maybe a surprise or two. We are asking each church to send an approximate number of children and adults who will be there. We REALLY NEED an approximate number so we will have enough food and materials It would help if we had this number on Thursday January 28th, but we absolutely need a very close number by Monday, February 1st. Please encourage your children to come! Great things for our youth are already happening. For several months, a group of our churches have joined together for a Youth Revival in one of our churches. The entire association are invited to be a part of this exciting event. As you will see inside the Newsletter these monthly services planned for and by some of the youth leaders takes place on the first Wednesday of each month. These services are really exciting and moving. I thank and praise God for those who began this great event for our youth. You will also see information about the “Stand Strong Youth Conference” at the Ninth Grade Academy April 22-23rd. We are blessed to have Scott Dawson coming back to our association. Scott is one of the most dynamic, Godly youth speakers in our country. Plan to bring your youth for this special time. This will be on the same schedule of our annual D-Now. Finally, I am so excited about our Evangelism Explosion Sunday, February 14th at FBC Fayetteville. One of Tennessee's most demanded evangelist, Phil Glisson, from the Memphis area, will be our guest speaker. The service will be held at 6:00pm and a nursery for children (birth to 5 year olds) will be available. We are blessed to have a Trio from New Grove Baptist to be our special music. These three talented singers are Amy Beard, Julie Beard, and Amber Mitchell. Our real special music will be provided by the Renowned Men's Choir made up of our pastors and staff members. Folks, please encourage your pastor and staff members to be a part of this group. There will be a few who can really sing and the rest will make a joyful sound! Stay on these guys and make sure they will be at FBC at 5:00 p.m. for rehearsal. Donnie Browning will be directing the choir. It may be a cold winter, but we are going to warm up our winter with some exciting events. I hope you will be at as many of them as you can for the glory of God. The joy of being your DOM just gets greater and greater as we make this journey together. Bro. Randy Page Page 2 2 The William Carey Witness We want to thank Bro. Ronnie and everyone at Prospect for their hospitality. The food is truly wonderful and it has become a brotherhood bowl with more than just chili and stew. Bro. Josh Moran led us in prayer for our meal. Bro. Claude Rigsby led us in “Amazing Grace”. After welcoming everyone, Bro. Derrick Moose led us in prayer for the meeting. We had one person there that was his first time attending a Brotherhood Meeting. The church with the largest attendance was Prospect. We had 8 pastors, 12 churches represented, and 60 people in attendance. Our attendance was down some, but those that were present received a blessing. Our offering was $300.00 which will help needy families and mission work. Bro. Rigsby did a fantastic job with music and Bro. Roger Berry, Pastor of New Grove, preached out of 2 Corinthians 12 about lacking in leadership. At the invitation we did a special prayer for the mission trip to the Philippians. Bro. Randy Nichols, Pastor at Maranatha, represented the 28 people from Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Every man in the sanctuary came to the altar for prayer and to pray led by Bro. Don Pierson. Our next meeting will be Monday, April 25th at 6:30pm for the Baptist Men’s Buffet at Maranatha. This will be a family event. Our Christmas for children in 2015 allowed us to provide toys, food boxes, cloths, coats, and Bibles. We were also able to help with furniture, electric bills, and handicap equipment. Please continue to pray for those on mission everywhere.
