NELSON ANIMAL SHELTER October 2012 ~ Giving Pets A Second Chance ~ Ziggy Ziggy, “the clown”, will entertain you! He loves to carry wadded up paper towels in his mouth, chase balls, and attack his littermates! And when he is done playing, he loves a lap to curl up on. He is a black short hair, 7 months old, is neutered, and current on shots. Adoptable Now MooMoo Our Thanks to Timber Creek Photography for supplying some of the adorable pictures used in this newsletter and on our website. Mia Meet Mia, a gentle little girl. She is a pretty medium long hair gray, white, and tan tabby. Mia is 5 months old, has been spayed, and is up to date on shots. Mia was an outdoor cat, so she was a little shy, but she is coming around in her foster home. This is MooMoo. One look at her spots and you'll know why we call her MooMoo. She is a female, about 4 months old, and has been spayed and is current on shots. She gets along well with the other kittens in the foster home and is very active and playful. Please contact our Foster Care Coordinator at 608-847-4060 or email [email protected] for adoption information, or to learn about becoming a foster home for CWNAS. Carl W. NELSON ANIMAL SHELTER October 2012 ~ Giving Pets A Second Chance ~ Ruffy and Tuffy are such cute twin brothers!! They eat together, play together all day long and at bedtime they sleep together too. They are neutered and current on shots. They are quite talkative and expressive and love human contact. Ruffy and Tuffy must be adopted together. Ruffy Casper This sweet little boy was found on Grove Street in Mauston. He has an injured right paw. He is very friendly and must belong to someone. We think he is quite young and we call him Casper. Tuffy Adoptable Now This little Yorkie was found on Adams Street in New Lisbon. He is very freindly and loving. Ron and Blackie were left Blackie Ron in a house when the family moved. CWNAS is assisting an animal control officer in offering them FREE TO A GOOD HOME. Please contact our Foster Care Coordinator at 608-847-4060 or email [email protected] for adoption information Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter * P.O. NELSON ANIMAL SHELTER October 2012 ~ Giving Pets A Second Chance ~ CWN AS CON TI N U ES EDU CATI ON EFFORT Changing the future of animal sheltering through education, has been a primary goal of the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter since its foundation in 2005. Accordingly, CWNAS volunteers, Ann June and Rosemary Aney, spoke to 50 Mauston Summer School students on July 27. The students learned about the over population of stray animals in Juneau County, how so many animals end up homeless, and what could be done to help them. The children came up with many good ideas on how to reduce the number and help the animals in shelters including: spaying and neutering all domestic pets; donating to animal shelters; holding fund raisers for an animal shelter; adopting from a shelter; and Ann June holds Surrie while students line up to pet him. volunteering at a shelter. Students were encouraged to consider the long term care needed for an adopted animal, and were told, “Think before you adopt!”. Caleb June, son of Rob and Ann June, “Surrie” June, a shelter cat adopted by the June family, and “Callie”, a kitten currently being fostered by the June family, assisted in the presentation. Exhibiting their calm and gracious nature, Surrie and Callie were perfect examples of how cats that have a bad start in life can become wonderful additions to the family. We wish everyone Safe and Happy Holidays! Waiting for Santa Claws Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter * P.O. NELSON ANIMAL SHELTER October 2012 ~ Giving Pets A Second Chance ~ VOLUNTEERS, OUR GREATEST RESOURCE! We want to thank the people who pitched in at the new building after we purchased it this summer. In addition to sweeping, mopping, and washing windows, there was grass to cut, a dumpster full of garbage to be cleared out, a propane tank to install, issues with the well to take care of, and utilities to switch over. Thanks to Kim Christopherson, Bonnie Kranz, Deb Palmer and granddaughters, Ann June, Jan Brendle, John Dalla Valle, Terry Dalla Valle, John Flint, Deb Flint, Bruce Aney, and Rosemary Aney who all worked at various jobs to spruce up our new property and prepare it for the next phase. Walkers and dogs participating in the “Hound Hustle” prepare to set off on the trail at Hustler Fest in August.
