Nelson Animal Shelter January 2012 JACK PINE TRAVELERS DONATE TO CWNAS The Jack Pine Traveler’s Camping Club of Juneau County recently made and donated 23 pet beds to the Carl W. Nelson Animal Shelter (CWNAS). The beds were made by the club members out of materials donated by Nanette Green of Necedah. Members cut and sewed the beds as a project at their October meeting. CWNAS held a “pet flea market” at this year’s Mauston Pumpkin Bash, where the beds were sold. Proceeds went to the CWNAS Building fund. The camping club also donated a large pet crate to the shelter. Accepting the donations on behalf of CWNAS was Rosemary Aney, CWNAS Secretary. She said that the shelter appreciates the donation of the crate and the beds. “The beds were a big hit at our pet flea market. Everyone loved the bright colors and the fact that they are completely washable. CWNAS extends a big thank you the the Jack Pine Travelers for this donation.” The Jack Pine Travelers Camping Club is a chapter member of the Good Sam’s RV Camping Club. They Jack Pine Traveler members with the pet beds & crate hold monthly “camp outs” during the summer months and meet at the Mauston City Hall during the winter months. The Jack Pine Travelers regularly donate money to the Juneau County food pantries and Dogs for the Deaf, and other area charities. Nelson Animal Shelter Hatch Story Time Visited January 2012 Rosemary Aney, and former CWNAS foster dog, “Bentley”, visited the Hatch Library Toddler Story Time on October 17, 2011. Rosemary and Bentley were invited to read to the children in honor of “Adopt a Shelter Dog” month. Bentley, a CWNAS foster dog who was adopted by Aney, was a huge hit with the little ones. Rosemary talked to the children about the things we need to have when we adopt a pet. As the children were questioned about the needs of an adopted pet, they guessed what was in the mystery bag, which contained the necessary items such as food, bowls, leashes, and name tags. The children also received a stuffed animal donated by the New Lisbon Correctional Institution. CWNAS Pet Flea Market at Pumpkin Bash This year the CWNAS chose to have a Pet Supply Flea Market at the Mauston Pumpkin Bash. We had many new and gently used pet items for sale. Along with the many items donated for the flea market, we also had pet beds made and donated by the Jack Pine Travelers Camping Club. The flea market was very successful, earning $484.50. We also had some of our foster cats on display. “Autumn” and “Solo” both found their forever homes with families attending the event. Many thanks to everyone who donated items and a special thank you to the Jack Pine Travelers Camping Club, and volunteers Kathy Storandt, Deb Palmer, Deb Flint, Jan Brendle, and Rosemary Aney.
