01 fixed - West End Shelter for Animals
What fun our 1st walk-n-wag-a-thon was! On Saturday, May 8 about 150 dog loving people showed up for our fundraiser at Prado Regional Park in Chino. Thank you for all that parcipated in, and volunteered your me and talent to helping make this a great success! With your help, we raised just over $5,000! ABC7’s morning Eyewitness News personality Garth Kemp was our Grand Marshal and it’s no secret he loves all dogs! The mayor of Ontario, Paul Leon made a special appearance and helped us kick off the day, along with Garth and KOLA-FM. Dale Namminga presented both Garth and Mayor Leon a special engraved brick to say thank you, and also help raise awareness of our “brick sponsorship” program. Our “Rent a Dog” was very popular, in fact, we ran out of dogs within the first half-hour! We’ll expand that idea next year! Three of our dogs might be adopted as a result of the walk – Jackie, with Garth Kemps help, BamBam and Martha – featured in an arcle in the Inland Valley Daily Bullen. Over 150 parcipants enjoyed fresh brewed coffee, got suited up with their walking “bib”, water and doggie bag and enjoyed a leisurely walk around part of the lake. Although walkers were unexpectedly re-routed by the park ranger, everyone seemed ok with it, especially the dogs… Aer the walk, dogs and their owners were awarded an official West End Dog Tag for their efforts. Walkers had ample spins at the KFRG-FM prize wheel and a shot at our raffle cket board for great prizes. We had some pet product booths for discounted shopping – Diana Jones helped raise lots of money for us, free chips & salsa, and the day capped off with some relaxing live music by Elina. A very special thanks to Dr. Fong for being on site in case of any animal emergencies and to Sean Cox in case of any human emergencies. Special thanks to our media partners, sponsors and friends – ABC7, KFRG-FM, KOLAFM, INLAND EMPIRE MAGAZINE, THE INLAND VALLEY DAILY NEWSPAPER, INLAND EMPIRE WEEKLY, KSPA-AM, INLAND LIVING MAGAZINE, EYDIE’S OFFICE, KAHOOTS PET STORE - CHINO HILLS, BAD ASS COFFEE- RANCHO CUCAMONGA, THE SHOPPES AT CHINO HILLS, CHIPOTLE - CHINO HILLS, JAX MARKET, COCA-COLA, BALLOON HAVEN – CHINO, TLC PET SITTING, CHINO CHAMPION, commiee chairs Dale Namminga, Sue Oxarart, Cyndi Zidell, Eydie Stumpf and the staff at West End. Thanks again to the West End staff, volunteers, sponsors and parcipants for making this something we hope to build upon every year! Janine Perry, Walk-n-Wag-a-Thon Commiee and VP Board of Directors Giving something back... Stater Bros. Markets and Pedigree teamed up to help the shelter. Through the purchase of Pedigree brand food at Stater Bros. The shelter received a generous donation. Thank you to Mrs. Liza Alldredge, Mrs. Diana Lopez , the Kindergarten & 1st grade classes of Foothill Country Day School of Claremont, Ca for the donations of dog and cat food. So, you are seeing cats in your yard, Like all animals, feral cats make their home where they can find shelter and food, often in close proximity to humans. Trap-Neuter-Return is the solution. Trap-Neuter-Return is an effective and humane way to stabilize feral cat populations. Cats are humanely trapped and taken to a veterinarian, where they are neutered and vaccinated. Trap-Neuter-Return works. No more kittens. Their lives are improved, and the population stabilizes and declines over time. The behaviors and stresses associated with mating, such as yowling and fighting, stop. FIVE EASY TIPS ON LIVING WITH CATS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD 1. Talk to your neighbors. Determine whether the cat is a pet, stray, or feral, and if he has been neutered. If not, get it done!! 2. Apply nontoxic deterrents around around your yard. 3. Put a tight lid on your trash cans. 4. Block gaps in the foundations of all sheds and outbuildings. 5. Use a car cover. WWW. ALLEYCAT.ORG Mailbox Happy Endings.......... As promised here are some pictures of Lucy, the deaf boxer Vickie and I adopted from your shelter in January. We renamed her Snow White. We took your advice and used the services of Marie Bymaster as her trainer. I would highly recommend Marie to any of your clients that may be interested. Remember Marie is working with a deaf dog. Thank you, Dave, Vickie and Snow White In October of 2008, we adopted a tiny little lynx point kitten from your shelter. We named him Jasper, and today he has grown into one of the sweetest and LARGEST cats we have ever owned. As big is he is, though he is gentle, loving, and kind to all of the other kitties who share our home with him. Thanks for all the wonderful work you do. Thank you, Kathy & Larry Bergeron Hi, I want to thank you so much for the gift of Oliver. He is truly an important beloved member of my family. Upon bringing him home he adapted to our house like it was always his home and now I can not imagine life without him.
