WINTER EDITION 2011
Our Walk n Wag a Thon was a big hit!
A big round of applause for West End Shelter for Animals “walkers”, volunteers,
donors and sponsors, as the 2nd annual Walk n Wag a Thon held October 8th!
Although it rained a few days before, the weather was a perfect 78 degrees for our
walk! All of the “rentable” dogs got taken for walks; they had the best time of all. Emcee
KFROG-95.1FM’s Heather “Froglear” did a great job giving away prizes and getting everyone
excited about the mini 1K walk, led by the “famous” friendly dog Axl Rolls, and the 5K led by our
own Dale Namminga around the beautiful lake at Prado Regional Park. Balloon Haven, Chino did
a beautiful job decorating our space with a grand balloon arch. Guest’s enjoyed free freshly brewed
coffee from Bad Ass Coffee, Rancho Cucamonga, and live music by Out of the Blue – Larry and Reuben,
and got a sneak peak at two classic cars that were at the Classic Car Show October 22nd. Mayor
Paul Leon even stopped by to see the action and take a quick photo with Dale. Jane from Kahoot’s
Pet Store, Chino was kind enough to donate all the doggie bags filled with tasty samples of dog and
cat food and treats, and Brunswick Bowling, Rancho Cucamonga donated a free game of bowling to
every walker! JAX Markets, Ontario donated cases of bottled water and delicious apples to keep our
walkers energized. Thanks to our sponsor, Ontario Vet Hospital for setting up a booth, and
volunteers Mr.& Mrs. Jones for their work displaying dozens of pet related goodies and Helen Rockett’s
.50 cent table! We had prizes graciously donated by KCAL-FM, KOLA-FM, Papa Johns Pizza,
Ontario, Scrubby Puppy Grooming, Upland, Alta Grooming, Rancho Feed & Fuel, Corky’s
Restaurant, Rancho Cucamonga , Ontario Reign Hockey, and from many generous friends who
support the shelter on a regular basis. The money raised from the walk, will go towards housing,
veterinarian services and feeding our 200 homeless dogs & cats at the shelter, as well as our
“Save a Pet” rescue fund, which allows West End Animal Shelter to rescue adoptable dogs and
cats from kill shelters and bring them to a safe-haven until they have been adopted.
Remember, by visiting our website you can donate online anytime through our PayPal donate
button, by shopping online through iGive.org or through www.FirstGiving.com, select

Thanks again to everyone who worked so hard on putting on this Walk n Wag a Thon!

THANK YOU TO ALL THE VETERINARIANS
AND VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE HELPED US
COME RAIN OR SHINE!!
Southern California Edison continues to support us here at the shelter.
We would like to thank the employees for their continued support and
and for donating their time to hold a volunteer day here at the shelter.
As another year winds down, we need to reflect on our challenges this year
and focus on our needs for next year.
West End does not have a fixed income. We rely on donations, adoptions,
fund raisers and the shot clinic. The financial hardship everyone has been
experiencing over the past few years has finally trickled down to our shelter.
For those who have continued to support us through the tough times, we will
always be eternally grateful.
Building on our empty lot next door to the shelter will need to be placed on
hold until the economic situation gets better. We need to go back to the basics
and place our priority on the care and comfort of our pets. Our commitment
is to save pets and find forever homes.
Everyone at West End is wishing all of you a very happy
holiday season.

Board of Directors.

Axl Rose was the grand marshall of the car show.
Why is the new plate needed?
Unfortunately, over 1 million dogs and cats enter Californias shelters each year, and over
half of them are euthanized (killed) simply because there are not enough homes. The
simplest act a pet owner can take to reduce pet overpopulation is to spay or neuter their pet.
The California Pet Lover's License Plate will provide a large scale, permanent funding source for
spay & neuter programs. These free and low-cost programs are desperately needed to help
address the unnecessary killing of so many dogs and cats in California.

Hi,
Just wanted to check in and say that Bandit (Cloverdale) is doing well.
He was renamed by my Granddaughters 3rd grade class by popular vote
since he steals our other cats food. (Murphy) Murphy was a stray who came
to our door but no chip or flyers ever found the owner. Bandit we adopted from you.
Bandit (Cloverdale is white and black) Murphy (Orange tabby). They are the best of friends.
Thank You again,
Hugh
We just wanted to give you an update on Lola. We adopted her almost four weeks ago.
She was not at the shelter long, about two weeks. She has fit in perfectly and gets along well
with our other dog Sasha, who we also got at the shelter about 5 years ago. She seems to be
happy, is eating and sleeping well and loves to go on walks.
Thank you,
The McCann Family

Hi,
I just wanted you to know that Termite has fit into our family
just wonderfully. He is a LOVE!!!! Our 13yr. old other doxie "Martin"
has been so relieved to have some company after the loss of his lifelong
friend that died two months ago. Termite aka "Mr. T " learned how to go
out the doggy door on the first try and has been very good with the grandchildren.
Thank you for letting me adopt him.
Sincerly,
Dana Bladow
Greetings Anne, Shannon, and team,
Wanted to update you about Savannah (whose name now has been shortened
to Annie), the new ruler of our home. Simply put, we love her! She is sweet, gentle,
friendly, and categorically adored by her new mom and dad.
Her first day was—understandably—a bit disorienting, but she has by now
become accustomed to her new home , and has managed to explore its entirety.
She has even begun to pick favorite spots to view the birds and the squirrels,
and to catch a snooze. After two restless nights, where she wondered the house
every few hours, she settled down last night and slept with us most of the night
on our bed (which of course made us happy). She is eating, drinking water, and
using her litter box—all good! She likes her daily brushing, and even helps me
work, sharing my desk...hoping you are not missing her too much.
Thanks for loving and caring for her so well.
Mic
Thank you to Girl Scout Troop #3214,
for the donations they made to the shelter
for the animals! We would also like to thank
Troop #10724 for planting the garden
around our buildings. They look beautiful!
Thanks ladies for all of your hard work and
time!!!
