FALL 2015
A NOT -FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDENT AND CEO
On behalf of the MCSPCA, we are
incredibly grateful for the generosity of
our donors. Your never-ending support
has helped us accomplish so much
and give so many homeless animals
a second chance. Thanks to your
kindness, we have helped over 6,000
animals this year through adoptions,
spay/neuter and vaccine services and
community outreach programs. We
have transported over 2,000 animals
from overcrowded shelters in the South
and Puerto Rico where they will find
their forever homes. We reduced
owner surrenders by 15 percent
thanks to our Pet Pantry program
which offers free pet food and
supplies to those facing economic
hardship. Our Pittie Project has
spayed & neutered over 200 pitties
and vaccinated/microchipped an
additional 300 so far this year. We
have made significant progress
improving the lives of Pit Bulls in the
community through this program.
Your support has helped us raise
thousands of dollars for our Second
Chance Medical Fund, a fund that
helps give extraordinary medical
care and second chances to animals
in need. Through this fund, we have
been able to give special surgeries
and lifesaving medical care to 6
animals this year. Still, there is so
much more we can do and there are
so many more animals in need of our
help. Together, we can save even
more innocent lives. Your continued
support gives us the ability to
provide shelter, care and medical
attention to those animals who
need it most. Let’s work together to
save even more innocent animals
lives in 2015!

AN IMPERFECTLY Purrrfect REUNION for two special cats
Walt and Snugglepuss are two cats that were rescued from a terrible hoarding situation along with over 20 other animals.
As is often the case in hoarding situations, they had not received proper care and suffered from critical medical issues.
They both needed special facial surgeries. Thanks to funding raised through the MCSPCA Second Chance Medical Fund,
we were able to give Walt and Snugglepuss the surgeries and medical care they needed.
After being separated for over two months to heal, Walt and Snugglepuss were
put in the same gazebo and immediately recognized and found each other. They
now share a comfy bed where they have been inseparable. Although Walt and
Snugglepuss may look funny to some, their imperfections are what make them
special to us. With your help we are able to provide animals the care and second
chances they need to live happy & healthy lives!
Animal hoarding is a growing issue that the MCSPCA confronts on a daily
basis. The MCSPCA recently hosted a seminar on animal hoarding at
Monmouth University to help educate and bring critical awareness to this
disturbing trend and help save animals like Walt and Snugglepuss !

our second chance
medical fund
The MCSPCA Second Chance Medical Fund is a special fund that helps provide
lifesaving medical care to animals in critical need. We are able to treat many
medical issues at the MCSPCA but sometimes animals come through our shelter in
need of extraordinary medical care that we need your support with! The Second
Chance Medical Fund was set up to help heal those that need it most by providing
animals with the second chance they deserve at a happy and healthy life. After
being rescued from a high-kill shelter, Becker was diagnosed with pulmonic
stenosis, a birth defect in his heart. Becker needed a very special surgery. Thanks
to the Second Chance Medical fund, we were able to provide Becker with the
lifesaving care he needed and a happy ending.

On a mission
for maternity
Help us reach our goal to renovate!
The Monmouth County SPCA provides shelter and care to more than 1,700 homeless cats and kittens
every year while they wait to find their forever homes. Hundreds of kittens and mother cats flood our
shelter in need of our support during what is known as "kitten season". As kitten season kicked off this
year, we embarked on a plan to Renovate our Cat Maternity Ward. The Cat Maternity Ward is a
place where homeless mother cats can get their baby kittens healthy and strong enough to find their
forever homes. The Maternity Ward Renovation will provide a new space designed to reduce stress,
provide mother cats more privacy, calm their nerves and make them feel safe and secure.Through this
important project, we will be able to give thousands of homeless kittens and mother cats the shelter
and care they need during this and every kitten season. Every little bit helps us give homeless cats
and kittens a second chance! Visit our website for more information on how to help!

The Monmouth County SPCA celebrated their 21st Annual Dog Walk + Pet
Fair this April with our most successful Dog Walk to date! With the help of our
corporate partner, Red Bank Veterinary Hospital, and over 2,000 of our
generous supporters who attended the event, the MCSPCA surpassed all
fundraising goals and raised over $140,000 for the thousands of homeless
animals that pass through our shelter every year. This year's Dog Walk + Pet
Fair featured many new vendors, food trucks, and contests too! As an added
bonus, SIX of our shelter dogs found their forever homes that day! Make sure
you save the date for our next Dog Walk + Pet Fair on April 30th, 2016!
Foster home, sweet home
how having a houseguest
could save a life
The shelter can be a stressful environment for many dogs. We do our absolute best to try and make every animal's stay
here as comfortable as possible. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, we have developed a Dog Foster Program that helps
provide a nurturing place for a shelter dog while they wait to find their forever homes. By fostering a dog, you can help to
reduce the number of animals in our shelter, therefore allowing us to save even more lives! Foster homes also provide
us with important information about the dog's personality so we can adopt them quickly and with their best match. We have
had so many success stories already with the help of foster families and we hope to continue to expand! If you are
interested in fostering or to learn more, please call 732-542-1536.
Tara & Kim's journey home
Tara & Kim arrived at our shelter from Puerto Rico. Both were
very shy and weren't acclimating to the environment well. Our
staff knew that their true personalities would not be able to shine
through in the shelter, so we put a plea out for a foster home.
Thankfully, one of our dedicated volunteers took both dogs into
her home. Within a week, Kim & Tara were playing in the yard,
sleeping soundly next to people in the home and just being dogs!
After a few months, both dogs were adopted and have been
thriving in their new homes! Whether it's a week or a month, any
length of time as a foster parent can help save lives!
Reaching out to reward:
the importance of community outreaches
The MCSPCA has 3 lifesaving adoption centers in Monmouth County (Eatontown, Freehold and
Middletown) , but we dont want to stop there! Our goal is to save as many lives as possible which is
why we've been working on getting out into the community with our Outreach Program. Outreaches are
held at local businesses and events where we can bring homeless animals out into the community
where they can be seen by potential adopters and spread our lifesaving message! There have been
over 25 outreaches organized this year and through them more than 50 animals have been placed
into loving homes. Not only do we find forever families, but we also do our best to educate the public
about animal advocacy, fundraising & spay neuter initiatives. Having off-site outreaches creates a fun
and relaxed environment where we are able to promote our organization and our animals! For more
information on how to participate in our Outreach Program or to host a Monmouth County SPCA
Outreach, please contact [email protected]!

How we're giving some
longtime cats a break
The MCSPCA gives every animal the time it takes to find their forever home, whether it takes two months, two days or two
years. As an open admissions shelter, we can have over 400 cats and 100 dogs in our shelter at any given time, which
means some animals will stay here for longer than we like. To help get some of our feline friends that have been in the
shelter for too long out and adopted, we created a foster-based program called "Let Me PURRRSUADE You" where our
longtime resident cats are placed into homes to give them a break from the shelter. At the end of the foster period the
family has the option to adopt their cat and so far we have placed more than 20 cats in their forever homes!
Dimitri, Brenda & Bruce Lee are 3 cats who came to us as strays at separate
times. After being at the shelter for over 7 months, we knew they would be
great candidates for the program. A wonderful family decided to adopt all 3
cats after their foster period had ended. They now live comfortably in a home
where they are happy, healthy and well-loved!

NEED SAVING
For more info on becoming a foster, please email [email protected]
Unfortunately, there isn’t always a happy ending for animals in
overcrowded shelters in other parts of the country. Due to a lack of spay/
neuter initiatives & resources, there is a large overpopulation of dogs and
cats in shelters across the South and Puerto Rico. That's why the MCSPCA
works hard to transport as many of these animals as possible to give them
the second chance they deserve. Every month, we organize several rescue
transports, from 2 to 2,000 miles away and give second chances to more
than 150 animals per month from overcrowded and high-kill shelters.
Wonder Woman was the name given to this sweet
girl who was rescuced from South Carolina in May of
this year. She came to the MCSPCA with 6 extra
large and extra cute puppies whom she so lovingly &
attentively cared for. Since then, Wonder Woman
and all 6 of her babies have been adopted into
loving homes and are happy & healthy dogs!
