This month has been a month of hard
work in the shelter every Saturday
the volunteers gather to make the
spring
cleaning
This
means
reorganizing the little storage houses
we have: the pharmacy will be moved
to a bigger space one space will be
converted for a room to give
vaccination and perform simple
procedures the food will be moved to
a safer area to be protected from rats
and we are reorganizing and labeling
things like leashes blankets collars
etc Saturdays are always full of work
so come meet us there is always
something you can help with!
For two weeks in MarchApril we
hosted great Belgian volunteers: Lise
Nathalie and Elaine Thank you girls
for your everyday dedication to the
dogs! We miss you and hope you will
come back!

before them on the streets of Lagoa de Albufeira this is were people abandon animals
nearby they have a beach and forest so they can just drive by a little road open the door of the
car and kick out the dog and then the dogs come to the village because they are hungry and
some good souls end up taking care of them and bringing them to the shelter In the case of
these Picole and Areias were easy to catch but Branquinho took several weeks before he
approached a person that wanted to help him; Same for N i ni she was found in the forest of
Lagoa de Albufeira with her little puppies A fr odi te C asi opei a a nd A chill es ; C am pe o
was kicked out of the car in front of the shelter: one Saturday we saw a car passing stopping
and starting again and then a dog running… he was very scared and circulated many days
around the shelter without letting anyone approach finally he was caught with a trap;
Te c o lived for long time on the streets of Maca protected by some people but some dogs
started to disappear from the area being poisoned or shot by those who dont like animals so
he had to come to the shelter otherwise he would end up sadly; A mig o was caught
abandoned on the streets; Same for sweet little puppy A mli a; Two more puppies E lis and
Gal were abandoned at the shelter; Also G ra na da was abandoned at the shelter one night in
a transporting box with a leash and a bag of food… how generous!; N a omi was found on the
streets of Sesimbra very pregnant; F a raj a was found on the streets; B ec ky appeared also on
a busy road all by herself
Th e ca ts were either found on the streets especially kittens abandoned somewhere and adult
female cats come from the colonies that we are trying to control we sterilize females and
normally put them back but some of them results to be so nice and gentle that we try to find
homes for them

ve lost an eye
sometime ago!
Some are blind others
limp and there are those
who can
t be stressed
but they all have lots of
love to give! Common
illnesses that in humans
wouldn
t matter much
but for them mean lower
chances to be adopted
Can you look beyond
that?!
Bobi is an old dog
delivered to us by the
municipal services over years
ago
He
was
probably
abandoned
because someone simply
simply got tired of him He was blind on his right eye we still don
t know why
and finally it had to be removed in November Everything went ok with
the surgery and now Bobi is back to his old routine: eating and sleeping!
Hello there!
I am Florita
and I have
epilepsy
Florita is epileptic and we can only
try to guess why… Now the seizures
are controlled She is taking
medications and she has not had a
seizure for a long time However she
can
t stay for much longer in our
shelter: over dogs can stress her
and she can
t afford to be stressed or
else the seizures will return!
Like all the others Florita needs a
quiet home full with love where she
will live happily ever after with the
proper care She is desperately
seeking a family…
Parrall was found last March Still a
puppy and yet he carries so much
pain and suffering in his eyes
His right eye had to be removed but
that doesn
t stop him from being a
smart sweet and intelligent dog!
We just hope the lack of eye won
t
be an obstacle when it comes to
adopting him…

m still so
young and yet I
have already
lost and eye…
On August th Nik was abandoned outside our shelter This very small
dog he weighs less than kilos was extremely scared but with time we
managed to gain his trust However theres still a long way until he forgets
his previous owner and he will have to do that on three legs! A small
difference that doesnt carry any other problem!

and I limp a
bit…
Motard lacks half of his teeth and has a huge hip displasia so he walks very
slowly and he needs to take daily medication for arthritis Like an old man
hes a bit grumpy and doesnt like all people: only a few favorites are allowed
to walk him!
Hes in search of a home and lots of love during the time he still has left…
Sacha was found in Lagoa de Albufeira
bumping into trees Although shes
about year old shes completely
blind! We dont know if her condition
is from birth or if she just lost her sight
but we know as the vet diagnosed that she will never see again…
Now Sacha is in a temporary family
and shes already learning her way
through the house She knows where
to walk where to lay down like a
blind person she is using her other
senses!
Usually a blind person needs a cane
and a guide dog… Sacha just needs a
loving patient human guide!

Hi! Im Jeremias
and I suffer
from allergies…
terrible ones!
Jeremias is allergic to pretty
much everything… he needs to
eat hypoallergic food and get
an injection against allergies
every months He wears ALL DAY a
special collar to prevent him from
scratching himself But he doesnt mind
that as this doesnt prevent him from
having quality of life!
He is a sweet very gentle and playful cat!
Hello! My

Bianca spent all her life on a
chain… In August we
rescued her With a huge
hernia probably the result of
many deliveries and an awful
cough due to her level heart
murmur
Her heart condition needs one
pill a day for the rest of her
life!
This

however
expensive and she needs
fostering parents and sponsors!

This litter of kitten just born was found by one of our volunteers in a
paper box on the floor next to the garbage container unprotected and at
the mercy of whoever and whatever They still had their eyes closed and
they still had the umbilical cord! The poor mother probably didnt even lay
her eyes on them…
We knew that it was nearly impossible to
save them but we were going to try After days they started to die one after another
leaving behind the person who tried to save
them in great sadness What so called
human being could have done such thing?
Wouldnt it be preferable to sterilize the
mother therefore preventing unwanted
kittens from ever being born? These poor
kittens were only born to know pain and
suffer! Another cruelty from human kind…
