adoption
fair
organized by the Portuguese
League for the Protection of
Animals in Belm
The same weekend another
group of volunteers hold a food
collection campaign in Jumbo
Natureza supermarket in Almada
On Sunday our volunteers
were also collecting dog and cat
food at Supersol supermarket in
CarrasqueiraSesimbra
and
opened an exposition My best
friend consisting of photos of
Bianca dogs and cats This
exposition stayed in Supersol
until the end of the month You

Last but not least Saturdays
of and we were
building kennels in the shelter
We have many animals we need
more kennels So we got down to
building
them!

offered thank you! and the
workforce were our volunteers

Association in October and are
still with us Those that arrived in
October but were rehomed the
same month are already in the
section of adopted animals

Ash ley was found sitting in the middle of the middle lane of A highway going from Cascais to Lisbon
Biancas volunteer saved the life of a little dog risking hers She is shy and a bit scared but nothing that
could not pass with time She has been already sterilized and is looking for a new home such a little girl
of less than kgs fits anywhere; B r eto n a young small male a bit shy but nothing that would not pass
with time and attention given was found roaming the streets of Lagoa de Albufeira a land rich in
abandoned animals; C ar amelo was found one night very late near the shelter He seemed very tired
they all are when we find them having walked long time and being hungry He is a beautiful dog and
friendly Adult but not old He has a heart problem and now he coughs because of that so he needs to be
treated immediately he has to take heart medication for quite some time and this medication is not
cheap P ar d al a puppy found with his siblings all alone in Lagoa de Albufeira; P atr ic k a small less
than kg doggy not very young but sweet found on the street dirty and with terrible fur the result of
months of negligence He was bathed and shaved seen by the vet vaccinated and now he seems like a
new dog! He is waiting for a new home and asking everyone who enters the shelter to take him; S ar a
the sweetest ever months old playful puppy found roaming the streets of Sesimbra; pu pp ies less
than months old abandoned in a paper box at the gate of the shelter: Fanta Fafa Filo Frida and
Falcon; S ebas tio was hit by a car and has his back left leg is broken Now he needs to stay in absolute
rest and time to recover He is very sweet and gentle and would like to be adopted soon… Bolinh a a
kitten found on the streets of Quinta do Conde; M ar ta a kitten found on the streets of Maca
Tobias was found near the shelter In a lamp post nearby there was a thin
broken chain so he was probably attached there he broke the chain but he did
not go anywhere People arrived to the shelter in the morning and he was there
He is a big dog young less than years old and extremely gentle Maybe he is
a cross with a Great Dane Big but thin… And sick He has sarna a skin parasite
that fortunately is easily treatable We have done blood tests to see if he had
other diseases results came back negative!

October
was
an
incredible month! We had cats
and dogs adopted Of course
many animals entered the shelter
and many were there already and
even with all those adoptions we
are still suffering a shortage of
space and temporary families but
for the first time in long time we
have a positive balance: more
animals rehomed than received!
Why was that? First because of
the Animal Day a big animal
adoption fair organised annually
in Belem There in one weekend
only we had cats and dogs
adopted But then the good wave
continued and the whole months
was fruitful in adoptions
It is not possible to put pictures
of all the animals that were
adopted in October We will give
all the names but put pictures of
adult adopted animals only to
make a point that it is much more
difficult for us to rehome an
adult animal and it is so
important to find homes for
them!
Each
adult
animal
rehomed is a real joy for us

Every month has its moments
of sadness and this month we
had to say goodbye to
Ramzes…
Ramzes was found in July the day we had our festival lying near the road
nearby Some woman saw him and went to the festival place she thought a car
had hit the dog but she was afraid to touch him She went with one of Bianca
volunteers but she refused to use her car in case the blood would make it dirty
and when she showed the dog she did not want to accompany the Bianca
volunteer to the vet People often like to send others to do the job She thought
she had fulfilled her duty by simply indicating where the dog was laying
The dog could not stand up he had to be lifted and carried to the car and then
carried from the car to the vet But he was not angry he seemed grateful to the
person who took him in his arms In the vet he drank an enormous quantity of
water and ate some food He was simply dehydrated and hungry actually it
was so bad that he was not going to survive that night He was taken to our
shelter and it was quite an effort to find a place for one more The next day he
was already better standing eating and drinking but by night he started to
bleed from his nose and it would not stop He was taken again to the vet who
took blood for the tests and he resulted to have tick fever all three types He
was treated and he seemed to improve he even put on weight and appeared to
be a gentle friendly and grateful dog We thought he was going to be fine and
we would find a home for him… Unfortunately in October he got worse again
and died very quickly The vet thinks it was a tumor; we could not have saved
him The only consolation is that he spent his last months surrounded by care
and love and we made him happy at the end of his life
We need food for dogs and cats!
Our dogs eat OVER kg of food a week
The basis is dry food but we also need canned food to serve medications Puppy
and Kitten food are also urgent!
We need medications!
We need urgently Actidox Ronaxan Vibramicina three boxes a day
Glucantime and Fortekor between others
We need volunteers for helping in the shelter socialize animals adoptions
followups and more
