As you esteem yourself so
must you consider your neighbor. If you love yourself because you love God, you will
have the same love for your
neighbor. As for your enemies,
esteem them not for what they
are but for what they may
one day become.

Jesus had a single focus: fulfilling what he
was called to be and do. And so he headed for
Jerusalem and what he knew was inevitable
there. He warned the disciples — and us —
not to be distracted in our calling by life’s
ordinary demands or the possibility of
discomfort, pain or death. It’s hard to be
single-minded with so many competing
priorities in life. How do we balance our
baptismal calling with the other demands we
encounter? Where is our focus?
As we struggle to be faithful to our own
calling, let us pray for ourselves and for the
many needs of people throughout the world.
For the church: that we may stay faithful to
the challenging call of discipleship … we
pray,
For all who work for and promote peace and
true security across the world ... we pray,
For those who serve the victims of war: for
international medical, emergency relief, and
human rights organizations … we pray,
For the ability to resist the many cultural
distractions that call us to physical comfort,
financial success and status … we pray,
For families and young people recreating
during these summer months and those who
cannot afford recreation … we pray,
For the grace to guide our children as they
face difficult choices in life … we pray,
For the environment and especially for those
places in the world suffering from drought or
flooding … we pray,
For the sick, the suffering, and the dying in
this community; and for those who have died
… we pray,
The parish office will be closed on
July 4th in observance of
Independance Day. The Mass
schedule remains the same
PRAYER: God who guides us, let us not
forget that you are with us as we struggle
on our journey with Jesus. Help us to focus
on what is most important, and allay our
confusion, doubts and fears. We pray in the
name of him who beckons us to follow.
Amen.

13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
13º Dom Tempo Comum (Ano C): 1Reis 19, 16b.19-21; Sl 16(15); Gal. 5, 1.13-18; Lucas 9,
51-62
Jesus liberta e conduz a viver a lei suprema do amor.

St. Elizabeth of Portugal
“Peacemaker”
1271—July 4, 1336
As legend holds, in 1323 Elizabeth
mounted a mule, positioned herself
between both opposing armies on
the Field of Alvalade; in order to
prevent Combat. In 1336 Elizabeth
was called to act once again as a
peacemaker. The two kings armies
were drawn up. She stopped the
fighting and caused terms of peace.
Soon after her mission was completed she took to her bed with a fever
from which she died.
Beatified 1526, Canonized 1625
<< Sow, sow God’s word! Make good on the
talents entrusted to you. God has given you, and
your neighbors as well, not merely one talent but
ten. These are the Ten Commandments, the
very life of your soul. So be enterprising in your
use of them. ˃˃ St. Catherine of Sienna

never tire of asking for forgiveness.”
