The summer has been dominated by the London Games of the 30th
Olympiad and this edition of Check-in is mainly dedicated to the
men and women of Accor UK who contributed so professionally to
the success of the Olympics and Paralympics. The main gold medal
goes to all of you who made the Olympic Games such a successful
moment both for our hotels and all of our guests.
London 1908 was a breakthrough, London 1948 a triumph, and London 2012
the setting of new standards for the future. Congratulations to the Accor Olympic
Committee, who prepared every single step towards the Games; our Revenue
Managers who challenged every single room to its highest rate; the Head Office
Team who went the extra mile in giving support to our hotels; and, last but not least,
all our teams in the hotels who gave the very best of themselves to make these
Games a true legacy never to be forgotten.
Some golden statistics:
The first 15 Olympic days were in the top 20 days of the overall London daily
results (Revpar) since the beginning of 2009.
n 12 London hotels out of 21 hotels had their highest Revpar since 2009 during
the Olympics.
n The ‘best’ day with regard to Revpar was Monday 6th August with £157.3.
n Marketshares during the Games: Accor hotels consistently out-performed
the market.

You all helped to bring the Great back to Britain. Accor UK-IRL has contributed
to the London Legacy, something to be very proud of.
Thank you all very much!
Kind regards,
Thomas Dubaere
Managing Director Accor UK-IRL
Some golden comments from our guests:
Frederic Gaillard, Senior Production Manager, France TV
“We have never seen this level of planning and organisation in any other venues
for major sporting events, including the World Cup, Tour de France and other
Olympics. In London, at ibis London Euston St Pancras and Novotel London
Tower Bridge, the standard of service was extremely high.”
New ibis family takes the stage
Well done to all teams who are busy implementing all
the changes to the new ibis family: ibis, ibis budget and
ibis Styles. Nearly all London properties are now showing
the new signage and we have started the provinces
with Birmingham, with the aim of finishing all properties
by October. But we’re not only working on signage: the
ibis megabrand will provide customers with improved
services, one being the new and improved bedding
which we’ve already started to roll out in the capital.
Jesus Dasilva, Head of Logistics & Project Manager, French NOC/Event Team
“We don’t regret moving our business to Novotel London Tower Bridge. The hotel
team has proven to be extremely flexible, and staff have been most professional.”

Malcolm Beattie, Chief Executive Officer, Parnell Partners Group Ltd, New Zealand
“Sofitel London St James exceeds all my high demand expectations. The VIP
clients including Qantas, Australian Post and Deutsche Bank were overwhelmed
by the 24/7 service from the staff. Many have stated that they will be using the
hotel again (including one of the richest men in Australia, who normally stays at
the Ritz).”

In February Novotel Liverpool Centre was named Best

of trading and with so much competition in the city.

20 schools from across the North West were challenged to set up
their own mini-manufacturing businesses, to create a product based on
the Olympic values. They only had 2 hours to come up with two ideas.
Lisa’s role for the day was to provide invaluable advice on how the
teams could come up with the winning product, offering ideas and
different solutions.
Archbishop Blanch High School were overall winners with their OlyPop: a cookie on a stick to provide an energy boost for athletes.
Cheadle Hulme High School were runners-up with their ‘Fibre Fast’
cereal bar, decorated with dried fruit in the colours of the Olympic
rings.

Lisa commented “It was great to see young people aged 13-14
coming up with inspiring ideas in such a short time, and a great
opportunity for the hotel to be involved with the local schools”. Lisa
also got to meet one of the Olympic torch runners at the event!
