Tigers With Good Vibes & Rip Tides
This year the Student Government Association wanted to go above and beyond the
typical homecoming spirit week. The SGA worked over the summer to come up
with a theme, ideas and activities for the week that fostered student involvement.
The theme this year was “Tigers with Good Vibes and Riptides.” SGA worked long
hours before and after school to make decorations for the commons area.
Students met the Thursday before homecoming week to decorate the commons
area for the big reveal on Friday. The student body was pleasantly surprised when
they came to school on Friday.
Monday was a school holiday so we began our theme days on Tuesday. Tuesday
was Tacky Tourist Day. Students dressed in sun hats, sun glasses, khaki shorts,
socks and sandals, Hawaiian button up shirts, fanny packs, binoculars, and anything else they could find.
Wednesday was Beach Bum Day. Students wore sweat pants and t-shirts. Students
could also pay $1 to wear their pajamas.
Thursday was Surfin’ in the U.S.A. Students dressed in red, white, and blue to
show off our patriotism.
Friday was Beach Party Day. Students wore leis, flower skirts, sunglasses, coconuts, and grass skirts. The outfits the students wore to school Friday, were also
worn to the game.
Thursday night we had a beach party after school. Students did the limbo, played
corn hole and danced. Jackie’s Starr-Mart donated pizza and drinks for all the students. This night was a time for the football team, cheerleaders, and the student
body to get excited and determined to beat our homecoming game rivals. We had a
great turn out and are still hearing great things about that night!
At the pep rally on Friday, we handed out leis to all the students and threw small
beach-related items into the crowd. Our teachers surprised us by coming out in the
middle of the floor and
dancing to all the popular songs that the
students danced to on
Thursday night. The
teachers really got the
students excited.
We had more participation and excitement
for homecoming week
than we have had in a
very long time.

SUMMER LEADERSHIP
CAMP
Several Members of the Crescent SGA attended summer leadership camp at
Camp Cherry Grove. By going to this summer camp, they are all be eligible to run for
state office at the state convention later on in the year. There were six members from the
Crescent SGA that attended the camp. Aaron, Grayson, Mathew, Ryan, Meredith, and
Eythan . These students represented CHS well.
While at the camp they were able to work with other students from all over the
state and share ideas with other councils. They attended workshops to help increase leadership skills and brought back fresh ideas that could be used here in our own council.
They had the opportunity to listen to several guest speakers that were very inspiring by
explaining the importance of being a leader not only now, but during their entire lives.
Students were split into councils and worked on problem solving skills. Students
also competed with their council in the “AG Olympics.” Grayson won the softball throw.
Meredith and Eythan won second place for the arm wrestling contest, and Eythan and
Meredith's council won the tractor pull. Matthew represented CHS in the camp talent
show by clogging. The crowed gave him a standing ovation.
The students were all so grateful for the opportunity to go. They now all have not
only the opportunity to run for state office but have skills they didn’t have before. They
feel like they were all able to grow from this experience and have truly shown what they
learned with the group as a whole.

the year during pep rallies, as well as were informed about our
first ever point system that is being implemented for the
2015-2016 academic school year.
Once everyone learned the cheers and were pumped about
competing with the other grade levels for points, we
brought everyone together in the gym. We introduced each
grade level and sat them in their section in the gym where
pep rallies and assemblies are held. The freshmen, sophomores, and juniors sat in their section and the seniors cut a
ribbon that opened up their section where they sat. After
everyone was seated, we started chants and began competing with one another for points. This was a great way to
start the school year! It brought everyone together and
excited about the upcoming year!

WELCOME CLASS
OF 2019!
This year, the SGA wanted the freshman class to
feel welcomed.
Coming into the high
school is always scary,
and you always hear stories about freshmen getting pranked.
As a group, the SGA
came up with the idea to
make goody bags for the
class of 2019. We wanted
them to get a great first
impression and feel
more comfortable.
Many of the members
stayed after a meeting to
help put the goody bags
together because they
knew what it felt like to
be a freshman.
We made an assembly
line to put the candy in
the goody bags. At the
end, we added a pencil
and a special note. We
assigned two people to
tie all the bags together
when they were all filled.
The day of freshman registration, we handed
each freshman student a
goody bag. We wished
them the best of luck.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
This school year, the Crescent
High School Student Government
has implemented a school wide
point system to increase academic success, attendance, leadership,
and school pride. One way grade
levels can earn points is by having a student from their grade
level be selected as Student of the
Week. With each grade level
competing against one another,
this is a great way to reward the
students who go out of their way
to be spectacular students at Crescent High School. The following
students have already been
named Student of the Week for
the 2015-2016 school year:
Hunter Brucke

a way to congratulate the students
who are working hard, but it is
also a way to push other students
to work just as hard.
FACE PAINTING
PINK OUT PRINCE & PRINCESS
For the Pink Out event in October, CHS raised money for the AnMed Health
Foundation.
We sold pink ribbons that could be in memory or in honor of someone. Students sold the ribbons to family, friends, and people in the community. The
ribbons were sold for one dollar each and the ribbons were displayed on the
fence around the football field.
We also had a competition between sixth period classes and also between individual students to see who could raise the most money. This was a way to really get students involved and to raise money to benefit our community. The
sixth period class that raised the most money received a pizza party. The second and third place winners received an ice cream party. Coach Martin’s class
came in first place, Mrs. Johnson’s class came in second, and Mrs. Holbrook’s
class came in third.
The competition between individual students to see who raised the most money was rewarded by crowning a Pink Out Prince and Princess. The top boy and
girl who raised the most money received a crown and a trophy. This year our
Pink Out Prince was Cheng Chin and we had a tie for Pink Out Princess between Nyhia Geer and Destiny Arnold.
All of the money raised goes to benefit the AnMed Health Foundation and
provide mammograms for women in our community that cannot afford this
very important screening. Crescent and
Anderson School District 3 raised a total of
Each year the cheerleaders
help SGA by going to all the
schools and painting a pink
ribbon or tiger paw on students faces for a donation.
I honestly could not tell you
who enjoyed the Pink-Out
Face Painting more, the kids
or myself!
The look on the kids faces
and to hear them say,
"You're my favorite cheerleader", made my day.
Some of the kids were so
eager to talk to us. Others
were shy. They just stood to
the back and watched, but
those are the ones I wanted
to reach out to and make
sure they got their face
painted.
There were a few girls that
told us they were cheerleaders and they would come to
Crescent games and watch
us cheer because they hoped
to one day be a Crescent
Tiger Cheerleader too.
This made be proud to not
only be a member of the
Student Government but
also a Crescent Cheerleader...GO TIGERS!

TEACHER SQAUD
Crescent High School had a pep rally for
homecoming on October 2nd. At this pep
rally, a group of teachers came together to
surprise the students with a flash mob.
“We practiced every day for a week!” says
Mrs. Raynor, a physical science teacher.
The students were entertained by the
teachers getting their groove on. Student’s
reactions were priceless and everyone
laughed out loud. They did a mash up of
many popular dances such as the electric
slide, the whip, the wobble, and many
more.
The teachers even did “The Quan” which
is a very new a popular song for the students.
A ninth grade student commented, “They
looked kind of silly, but it is great they had
the confidence to get up in front of the
whole school.”
Even though the dance moves weren’t
perfect, both the teachers and students
enjoyed themselves thoroughly!

DISTRICT RALLY
On October 2nd, the Student Government Association and the Student
Leadership Class went to the South
Carolina Association of Student Councils District Rally.
Students listened to guest speaker. She
spoke on the difficulties she had overcome in her life and how they molded
her into the person she is today. Her
key point was to keep your head up and
don’t let you past or surroundings define you.
The students also attend student led workshops on various leadership topics.
Crescent students presented two workshops at the district rally. One workshop
presented by Grayson McCullough and Meredith McCullough was on Matthew
Fortner and Ryan Whitfield presented a workshop on group bonding.
SOUTHERN CONVENTION
On Friday, October 9, 2015, seven students along with
Ms. Pinson and Ms. Wires traveled to Houma, Louisiana
to attend the Southern Association of Student Councils
(SASC) Annual Convention hosted at Vandebilt Catholic
High School. They boarded a charter bus with students
from Chapin High School and Laurens District 55 High
School to make the fourteen hour journey.
convention went to a party with food, music, dancing, and
even a Mardi Gras float. This trip was very beneficial to
the students that attended because they got to bond with
each other, obtain many good ideas, and meet other students from different states.
This is the first time Crescent has ever attended the SASC
convention. Crescent must attend the convention for two
more years and then we will be eligible to run for a Southern office.
Over the course of five days, our students met other high
school students from twelve other southern states. They
participated in workshops that gave them new, creative
ideas to bring back to Crescent, attended general sessions,
went to a pep rally, and even took some Cajun dance lessons. They were immersed in the Cajun lifestyle which
involved eating jambalaya, learning some Cajun language,
and dancing the Cajun way!
The students submitted three projects to be judged during
this convention. Crescent won first place for their Community Outreach project and second place in the school
spirit project category.
To end the fun and exciting weekend, all delegates to the
