WHAT IS MAKR SHAKR®
MAKR SHAKR® IS THE WORLD’S FIRST, AWARD-WINNING,
ROBOTIC BAR SYSTEM.

Makr Shakr® allows users to create an almost limitless number of alcoholic
and non-alcoholic drink combinations by accessing a simple app. The cocktail
creations will then be assembled by two robotic arms, whose movements explained on a large display positioned behind the bar - mimic the actions of a
bartender, from the shaking of a martini to the thin slicing of a lemon garnish.

Makr Shakr® is a great example of how digital technologies are changing the
interaction between people and products.

HOW DOES IT WORK
TO USE MAKR SHAKR®, USERS ACCESS AN APPLICATION
THAT ALLOWS THEM TO PREPARE ONE OF APPROXIMATELY
ONE GOOGOL (EQUAL TO 10100) CROWD-SOURCED DRINK
COMBINATIONS.

To create an engaging bar experience, the robots’ movements were modeled on
the gestures of the Italian dancer and choreographer Marco Pelle from New York
Theatre Ballet.
_
Guests will have the possibility to name their own recipes, access their order
history and reorder their favorite cocktails, while rating and commenting on each
other’s creations. They can gain inspiration by viewing other users’ recipes and
comments before sending in their drink of choice.
_
Makr Shakr® doesn’t simply transform the users’ creativity into reality, it also
involves them in the creation process by showing them each and every step.

CYCLE MODES
MAKR SHAKR® IS EQUIPPED WITH A CONTROL PANEL
SITUATED CLOSE TO THE WAITER STATION, TO ENABLE
AUTHORIZED USERS TO CONTROL THE ROBOTIC ARMS
AND EACH OF THE VARIOUS SUBSYSTEMS.

The mode is directly selectable from the control panel.
Cycle modes are as follows:

DRINK
PREPARATION MODE
_
The robots wait for drink orders
to gather in the queue and start
mixing drinks as soon as the recipes
are submitted to the system;
B
DANCING
MODE
_
The robots are programmed with
a dancing sequence, composed of
different movements the robots
perform in synchrony with a music
theme;
C
CLEANING/REFILLING MODE
_
The robots are positioned and
secured in a convenient position to
allow for spirit bottles replacement
and maintenance operation, such
as the cleaning of the shaker.
The preparation of a drink recipe is defined by the following actions:

The robots collect cups from rear
cup dispensers area and position
them onto the conveyor system;

The robots pour the shaker content
into the cup;
B
The robots move within their safety
area and collect ingredients in the
shaker;
E
The cups are delivered to the
customers or to the waiter after
RFID or QR Code recognition has
authorized the unlocking;
C
The robots mix the collected
ingredients while performing one
of the following actions: muddle,
stir, shake, strain;
F
The robot’s shaker is rinsed with
a water jet and dried with an air
blade after each production cycle.

To create and order drinks, users can either access the Makr Shakr® app, available on
the web and optimised for iOS and Android smartphones, or use a customized app on
pre-set tablets. The app enables direct communication between people and the robots
thanks to a series of simple and intuitive steps, as shown below.
