2011 - 2012 ASUCM Senate Bill #19 - 201112012 Vietnamese Student Association UVSA Leadership Summit 2011 Introduced By: Adrian Mohammad, ASUCM Senator Authored By: Bernard Nghiem, VSA President September 19 th , 2011 ASUCM Senate Legislation Bill #19 2011-2012 Background: The Union of Vietnamese Student Association Leadership Summit is an annual leadership conference put on by UVSA Norcal. This year it is going to be held at University of California, Berkeley. The conference itself is three days and two nights. At Summit there will be workshops that are designed to help build leadership and programming skills and additional tips to allow your club or business be more successful. There will also be team building games and opportunities to network with VSAs from other colleges. There is $50 registration fee for those who are attending and VSA have approximately 28 members who are interested in attending Summit this year. VSA is asking for $1400 to cover the cost for attendance to Summit this year and an additional $1014 for transportation (using personal vehicles). Asking for a total of$2414 to cover the cost of attending and transportation there and back. Purpose: This bill is to support VSA's retreat and provide $2414 to fund lodging, registration, food, and transportation to the UVSA 5th Annual Leadership Summit 2011 at University of California, Berkekely during the weekend of October 7th·9th • 1. Whereas: ASUCM supports diversity "to support, promote and celebrate the diversity of culture, lifestyle, and beliefs for the breadth of ideas"; as written in the Preamble of the ASUCM Constitution; and, 2. Whereas: The ASUCM supports our students growth outside of the classroom; and, 3. Whereas: 28 members ofVSA will be able to attend this conference; and, 4. Whereas: this is an annual conference that promotes the Vietnamese culture and leadership skills; and, 5. Whereas: helps improve and expand event programming; and, 6. Whereas: expands networking with other UC's, Cal States, and private schools that are also in attendance; and, 5. Whereas: ASUCM has the goal this year of promoting leadership, and this summit would greatly help the Leadership of VSA; and, 7. Whereas; the $2414 amount would cover two nights stay for the members, food, and transportation costs; therefore Be it enacted: The ASUCM Senate will allocate $2,414 from the 201112012 General Fund in support ofVSA's UVSA summit. Participants of this conference will report back to ASUCM senate within two weeks of returning from the conference.
