It typically just doesn’t get any busier
at BYSC than the month of June. And it
was no different this year! Congratulations to Sam Levin and the multitude of
volunteers both on and off the water who
made the 49th Lowcountry Regatta a huge
success. We had a good turnout of competitors spread out over three race courses
from south of the McTeer bridge to the
“cut” north of the club. And as is normal,
we provided the competitors with excellent shore support during launching and
retrieval of their boats, fun but challenging wind and tide conditions in which to
race, a great party on Saturday with live
entertainment, and plenty of delicious eats
all weekend long. And, as is always the case, the hospitality of the BYSC membership throughout the weekend was second to none. My personal THANK YOU
to everyone that contributed – volunteers, sponsors, club staff, and race participants.
But one regatta weekend does not in itself make for a full busy month – what
did fill the month was another great Steak Night, really strong turnouts on ‘Sunset
Fridays’, both the BYSC ‘Summer Camps’ and the Junior Sailing of Beaufort
‘Learn-To-Sail’ programs each week, another session of the Marine Corps
“S.A.I.L.S.” program, and lots of activity at the pool, the docks, the cooking pavilions and the tennis courts. Something for everyone.
Speaking of BYSC ‘Summer Camp’ – big kudos to Dylan and his staff. Many
participants and their family members have commented to me and other members
of the Board how well organized, interesting, educational and FUN camp is this
year. Well done !

60th Annual Beaufort Water Festival
This weekend is the first weekend of the 6oth annual
Beaufort Water Festival. The BYSC will be jumping
with folks loading up to get out on the river and enjoying
the club. A few quick reminders and announcements:
The BYSC Face dock will be for loading and unloading
On Saturday and Sunday both weekends, please refrain from long term dockage or boat repairs in that
area.
The Boat Ramp is tide specific and at dead low tide,
launching is typically not possible, please plan according
to tide.
They BYSC dock and Ramp is for BYSC Member
boats only. Any guests must be accompanied by a BYSC
member. This includes the pool, clubhouse and tennis
courts. Guests not accompanied by a member will not be
allowed to park or use the facility.
BYSC will be staffed to ensure that we all have a safe
fun water festival.

Water Festival is upon us and we are looking forward to some good times in the next week. Please
remember that these are our busiest weekends
here at the club and lots folks are heading out to
enjoy the river. Lets all remember that manners
and boating courtesy are as important on the
ramp and dock as they are on the river. Dock
space is first come first serve and I will do my best
to accommodate everyone that I can. Please don’t
leave engines up while docked.
We are here to assist if you need anything just
look for me or Mr. Chuck.

Junior Sailing of Beaufort (JSB) would like to thank all parents, sailors and counselors for making the JSB 2015 sailing camp our most successful ever. We had 92 sailors
combined enrolled in our Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, Learn to Race and Race
Team programs. A special thanks to our dedicated counselors including our program
director, Nathan Akers, Race Team Coach Caroline Attwood, counselors Megan Potter,
Sally Key, Drummond Koppernaes and Conner Akers, and assistant counselor Walter
Gnann. Good luck to Caroline Attwood who will be pursuing an Olympic campaign
sailing in the 49erFX, and Walter Gnann who qualified for and will be sailing in the
Chubb US Junior Championships on Martha’s Vineyard August 2-6. We would also
like to thank the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club for their continuing generous support
of the JSB sailing program without which JSB could not function.
While JSB’s summer sailing camp is certainly one of our bigger sailing programs,
junior sailing does not end there. JSB has a traveling race team sailing Lasers, 420s,
Optis, and now O’Pen BICs at regattas all around the southeast region. BYSC runs a
spring and fall series race with juniors sailing Lasers, 420s, Optis, O’Pen BICs and
Sunfish. The BYSC fall series starts this Labor Day weekend with racing usually on
Sundays at 2:00 PM. JSB boats are available for charter use for all of JSB sponsored
events which includes the spring and fall series. JSB also sponsors the Beaufort High
School and Beaufort Academy High School sailing teams. High school sailing practice
starts up again this fall with Coach Peter Gamble and regularly scheduled practices on
Fridays after school. We currently allow junior sailors from 7th grade and up to practice with the high school teams. Last season our high school teams were very successful
with BHS placing 2nd in our region and qualifying for and sailing in the district championships in St. Petersburg FL. We hope to do even better this year. High School sailing is both fun and competitive with 502 schools registered to compete and 5000+/- sailors participating. If you know you want to keep your sailors sailing but don’t know
how to make that happen contact us and we’ll help point your sailor in the right direction.
