Engine Overview
The HP LaserJet® 9000 was introduced in May 2001 with an all new Canon® B-sized engine, exclusive to HP at the time of release. Not meant as a replacement
for any other HP model, the 9000 was HP's fastest laser printer on the market at the time, with a speed of 50 pages per minute (ppm). Targeted at the general
departmental office and entry-level production printing markets, the machines were offered only through HP’s authorized resellers and were available in four
models: the base 9000, the network-ready 9000N, the 9000DN network-ready with duplexer and the 9000HNS with duplexer, Ethernet card and finisher. In
March of 2002 the LaserJet 9000 multifunctional (MFP) with color scanning capabilities was released, intended for corporate office applications. Based on the
LaserJet® 9000's Canon® engine, it offered the same print speed and utilized the same 30,000-page print cartridge.
There are two consumable supplies for the 9000 series; a smart-print toner cartridge and maintenance kit. The cartridge is similar to that used in the HP4100,
with its smart chip designed for supplies monitoring (including toner level) and on-line ordering, print quality enhancements and less operator/machine interaction. The chip also stores information such as the cartridge manufacturing date and serial number. Although the printer supports non-HP cartridges, the
chip's toner sensing and supplies monitoring features are disabled when the printer identifies the cartridges as non-HP.
The HP9000 cartridge is a very large, all-in-one, "no-shake" design. Stirring mechanisms evenly distribute toner within the hopper, making it unnecessary to
shake the cartridge to eke out a few extra pages. Several features make remanufacturing this cartridge challenging, including the chemically bonded cartridge
end plates, the bellows assembly (which allows for movement between the two halves of the cartridge within the confines of the two rigid endplates), the selfpulling seal (which is pulled automatically and wound inside the cartridge like a roll of film is wound inside the film case), chemically bonded cartridge seams,
and the location of PCR and mag roller electrical circuitry (which complicates cartridge splitting). Because of the chemical bonding of all cartridge seams, a
special removal tool is needed to remove the end plates, however, once the end plates have been removed, it is fairly easy to disassemble the rest of the
cartridge.

Smartek Printdetect Chips for use in HP9000 / HP9500
Static Control® has developed a variety of Smartek PrintdetectTM chip solutions
that will allow remanufacturers to use just one chip for numerous HP cartridges
and engines. These chips offer full OEM-like function as well as PrintdetectTM technology enabling the chip to transparently detect the model of printer it is installed
in and correctly initialize printer function for that model.
Primary features offered by these Smartek PrintdetectTMchips:
•The chip has the ability to provide post-test function prior to "marrying" itself
to the printer.
•The chip can be reset, re-used and therefore "remarried" to a different
cartridge/model, using SCC's StatScan chip reader and reset system.
•Color chips function as black chips in monochrome systems.
HP9000 Cartridge End Cap Removal Kit
Getting into the HP9000 cartridge has been the biggest barrier for
remanufacturers. Static Control's® HP9000 Cartridge End Cap Removal
Kit resolves this problem. You get all the tools you need along with
detailed instructions that allow you to split the cartridge safely and efficiently without cutting through crucial electrical contacts. The HP9000
Cartridge End Cap Removal Kit includes the 9000 hopper jig fixture,
heavy duty flex shaft power tool, handle side template, drive side template, side straps, base plate, hand piece guide, alignment tool, cartridge
clips, drill bit and cartridge clip drill guide.
•Chips are available for both low and high-yield options.
Benefits include reduced SKU’s required to service increased number of systems.

Mag Roller Internal Contact Tool
To assist with the mag roller removal and insertion process, Static Control® engineers
have developed both an HP9000 Insertion Mag Roller Press and an HP9000 Removal
Mag Roller Press. Both of these presses have been designed to increase production
speed during disassembly and allow remanufactures to reassemble them with ease and
precision. Constructed of heavy-duty aluminum, these presses are designed for nonstop performance in demanding recharging operations. Predrilled mounting holes
make it convenient and easy to secure each press to your work surface. And the
HP9000 Mag Roller Insertion Press is spring-loaded so there is no need for a calibration
gauge.

The HP9000 Seal has been designed to meet the unique needs of
the HP9000 cartridge. To replicate the effect of the OEM seal,
the HP9000 seal has specially engineered foam on the mag roller
side of the seal. This ensures that the seal provides the cartridge
enough flexibility to function properly. Unlike traditional aftermarket seals, this HP9000 seal has electrical contacts which alert
the printer that a new cartridge is in place and so that the printer
automatically removes the seal.

The HP9000 Toner Filling Station has been
designed to make filling your cartridges more
efficient. Because of the size of the HP9000
cartridge, it can be difficult to hold while filling
with toner. Therefore, SCC engineers have
developed a handy station that secures the
cartridge in place while you fill it with the
necessary amount of toner. This time-saving
station is an excellent tool for remanufacturing
the HP9000 cartridge.
