Letters From Mike...
Hi everyone- Soon we shall have a new HELOC,
new Website and in the next 12 months, members who have debit accounts and debit cards will
receive the new EMV Chip Debit cards. The nationwide shift to EMV has begun. EMV -- which
stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa -- is a
global standard for cards equipped with computer chips and the technology used to authenticate
chip-card transactions. In the wake of numerous
large-scale data breaches like Target and Home
Depot and increasing rates of counterfeit card
fraud, Avista Credit Union is migrating to this new
technology to protect our members and reduce the
costs of fraud. The security and protection of our
member’s money and personal data is my number
one priority for our Credit Union. According to Julie Conroy, a researcher from Aite Group, the new
and improved EMV cards are being deployed to
improve payment security, making it more difficult
for fraudsters to successfully counterfeit cards and
it’s an important step forward. We will have more
information for you on our new Website in December. If you would like further information on this
you can go to Foxbusiness.com/personal-finance.
Debit
Card
We have been diligently working to make this program better and easier for you to use. In the next 12
months you will see our Debit card program transform. We have joined the Co-Op network which
gives you free access to over 30,000 ATM’s nationwide. You can find these ATM locations online at
www.co-opatm.org or you can download the mobile app. We are working diligiently to make your
Debit Cards “live” meaning the minute you swipe
your card it will pull the funds out of your account,
this will give you better access to the funds in your
account. If you have any questions please call us at
509-495-2000.
