ccueillir les visiteurs est une tradition à Avignon.
Avec l’arrivée des Papes au Moyen Age, cette petite
bourgade de Provence devient en peu de temps
une capitale italienne et cosmopolite. Marchands,
banquiers, artisans, artistes affluent de toute part pour construire
le Palais des Papes et organiser la vie autour des souverains
pontifes. Ceux-ci, princes puissants, reçoivent des visiteurs de
marque venus de tout l’Occident et même d’Orient.
Le festival d’Avignon créé en 1947 par Jean Vilar est une autre
étape qui a marqué l’histoire de la cité : elle accueille depuis
chaque été des troupes de théâtre venues de toute l’Europe et
de plus loin encore en une immense scène de confrontation
artistique.
Aujourd’hui, c’est encore des 4 coins du monde que les visiteurs
viennent admirer son fantastique patrimoine et profiter de sa
vie culturelle. A vous maintenant d’y séjourner et de découvrir
cette ville pleine de contrastes, à la fois chargée d’histoire et très
contemporaine.

Welcoming visitors is a long-standing tradition in Avignon.
When the Popes arrived in the Middle Ages, this small city
in Provence rapidly grew into a cosmopolitan, Italian capital.
Merchants, bankers, craftsmen and artists flocked to Avignon
from far and wide, to build the Palace of the Popes and to
contribute to the life teeming around the Sovereign Pontiffs.
Powerful princes of the church, the Popes hosted distinguished
visitors from the entire Western world, and even from the Orient.
The Avignon Theatre Festival, founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, is
another significant event which has marked the history of Avignon.
Each summer, the Festival hosts countless theatre troupes from
throughout Europe and beyond, becoming one immense stage
overflowing with artistic opportunities.
Today, visitors continue to come from around the world to see
the outstanding architectural heritage and to enjoy the cultural
life. Now it is your turn to come and stay in Avignon, to discover a
city that is full of contrasts, that is both rich in history and highly
contemporary.

In Avignon hat der Empfang von Besuchern Tradition.
Als im Mittelalter die Päpste nach Avignon kamen, wurde
aus dem kleinen Marktflecken in der Provence bald eine
italienische Weltstadt. Händler, Bankleute, Handwerker und
Künstler strömten herbei, um den Papstpalast zu bauen und das
tägliche Leben in der Papststadt auszurichten. Die mächtigen
Kirchenfürsten empfingen eminente Besucher aus der gesamten
westlichen Welt und auch aus dem Orient.
Das 1947 von Jean Vilar geschaffene Theaterfestival ist eine
weitere wichtige Etappe in der Geschichte der Stadt. Seither
finden sich in jedem Sommer Theaterensembles aus ganz Europa
und von weit her ein, um aus der Stadt eine riesige Bühne der
künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung zu machen.
Auch heute noch reisen Besucher aus aller Welt an und
bewundern das großartige Kulturgut und kulturelle Leben. Jetzt
ist es an Ihnen, die kontrastreiche, geschichtsträchtige und
zugleich sehr moderne Stadt kennen zu lernen!

Ad Avignone, accogliere i visitatori è tradizione.
Con l’arrivo dei Papi nel Medioevo, Avignone, questo piccolo
borgo di Provenza, diventa in poco tempo una capitale italiana e
cosmopolita. Mercanti, banchieri, artigiani e artisti affluiscono da
ogni parte per costruire il Palazzo dei Papi e organizzare la vita
attorno ai sovrani pontefici. Costoro, principi possenti, ricevono
visitatori di spicco venuti da tutto l’Occidente e persino da Oriente.
Il festival di Avignone, creato nel 1947 da Jean Vilar, è un’altra
tappa che ha segnato la storia della città: ogni estate accoglie
troupe di teatro venute da tutt’Europa e da più lontano ancora,
in un immenso palcoscenico di confronto artistico.
Oggi, i visitatori continuano ad arrivare da ogni angolo del mondo
per ammirare il suo favoloso patrimonio e godere della sua vita
culturale. Ora tocca a voi soggiornarvi e scoprire questa città piena
di contrasti, al contempo carica di storia e molto contemporanea.

Para nosotros, es una tradición recibir visitantes en Aviñón.
Cuando llegan los Papas en la Edad Media, Aviñón, un pueblecito
de la Provenza, se convierte en poco tiempo, en una capital
italiana y cosmopolita. Mercaderes, banqueros, artesanos y
artistas confluyen de todas partes para construir el Palacio de los
Papas y organizar la vida alrededor de los soberanos pontífices.
Éstos, al ser poderosos príncipes, reciben visitantes distinguidos
de todo Occidente y hasta de Oriente.
Otra etapa que marcó la historia de la ciudad, es el festival de
Aviñón, creado en 1947 por Jean Vilar; desde ese entonces,
Aviñón recibe cada verano compañías de teatro que vienen de
toda Europa y de más lejos aún, en una inmensa escena de
presentación artística.
Hoy, siguen viniendo visitantes de todas partes del mundo para
admirar el fantástico patrimonio de Aviñón y para gozar de su
vida cultural. Ahora, es su turno de venir a descubrir esta ciudad
llena de contrastes, rebosante de historia y al mismo tiempo tan
contemporánea.
