“Ministries for Mankind”
A.W. Anthony Mays, Senior Pastor
Luke 4:18
“The spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he hath anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor; he
hath sent me to heal the broken
hearted, to preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to
the blind, to set at liberty them that
are bruised.”
1
From the Pen of Our Beloved Pastor,
A.W. Anthony Mays
Dear Members and Friends of the Mount,
“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift!” (2 Cor. 9:15). God’s Gift to mankind
is Jesus Christ, the Savior. Our confession, as believers, is that Jesus Christ is LORD!
If you have not made this confession of Christ, I must say to you that your time is
winding up. You have less time to make this confession in your life today than you had on yesterday. Please
do not let your time run out before it is eternally too late.
This is the confession you will make now, or you will make it later for the Bible teaches that every eye shall
behold Him (Rev. 1:7), every knee shall bow before Him, and every tongue shall confess Him as Lord to
the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:8).
As I write for the Mountaineer this month, I have recently returned from another experience of visiting the
land of Israel, the Holy Land. I have returned with mixed feelings. One current of feelings, admires and
respects the Jews as a people. These people are a wonder. On this trip, we went again through the Museum
of the Holocaust. I could not imagine that any human heart could see the reminders of the evil which was
carried out against the Jews in such stark realities without being moved. How inhuman were the atrocities
carried out against these people by the dictator of Germany, Adolf Hitler, who sought to literally eliminate
them (the Jews) from the face of the earth. The philosophy of the German mind was that the Jews were not
really “human,” but were only “pretenders” to have any humanity, and that to rid the world of their
presence was doing a great good for the world. On this trip we had a guide who made some of the stories of
the Jewish victims of the Holocaust to come to life in our ears and before our eyes. The volunteer guide told
of stories which included revelations of the experience of his parents, his mother and his father, who
survived the great evil through special grace and courage.
Another current of feelings that ran within my heart, was that African Americans have many things in
common with the Jewish people as a targeted people for great persecutions, for horrors, and great
sufferings. However, a distinction of difference for the Jews is that, I saw in Israel the means on display in
the Museum of the Holocaust of the Jews to document thousands and thousands, even millions of individual
lives during those horrible years. This is because, as a nation, Israel took responsibility to make sure that
coming generations would never forget. I saw pictures, names, and even grainy films of the atrocities which
the Jews experienced and suffered. Our fore bearers, African Americans, on the other hand, had little ability
to document their thousands and thousands of atrocities because this nation seeks to minimize the
experience and impact of American slavery, and then subsequent Jim Crow practices against African
Americans. This is why our fore bearers sang sad spirituals like, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen,
Nobody knows my sorrow . . .”
On some limited fashion, persons, institutions, and groups, have sought to gather and maintain the records,
with such things as the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, The Museum in Baltimore Maryland, the
Museum in Atlanta, etc. And there are many, many more, scattered about in the cities of this land. But there
has never been a determination on a national level, like Israel’s, to record America’s history of atrocities
against African Americans. In Jerusalem, I witnessed groups and persons of all type, races and ethnic
descriptions by the thousands, making their way through the halls and corridors of Israel’s Museum to the
Holocaust. When I have visited Civil Rights Museums around the country, I have never seen such crowds
of persons seeking to learn more about real history.
We can only pray and then do our individual part to cause others to remember, and never forget.

Temple Wellness Ministry
“God guide us all in our efforts”
By Stacy Offord (Temple Wellness Ministry Leader)
Welcome summer 2016! Can you believe it? We have been blessed with an abundance
of rain this year and are enjoying a tropical experience! Vacation time, here we come!
Time to take some time off from watching the clock and the calendar and simply relax!
Speaking of relaxing--What are your three pillars of success in relieving stress? Take
your time… we have been gifted salvation and have an inheritance of eternity, so there
is no rush. Or is there? Our stress level can dampen our life experience. Setting a goal
is the first step to reaching any level of success! Planning and tracking to reach each
goal is the key. (I Chronicles 28:9 & 10)
We are Celebrating Men’s Health in the Month of June! We want to invite all the Men
at the Mount, and surrounding community, to experience The Mount Sinai Stewardship, Financial Planning God’s Way and Evangelism Sunday School Classes, held in
the Family Life Center. They are very helpful. (Romans 12: 1 & 2)
Mount Sinai, your Temple Wellness Ministry is also beginning a co-ed Walking Fellowship –“The Chosen Few”. It
is easy as 1-2-3!
1. Goal: Walk 3 miles (7000 step) each day for 3 days each week—for 5 months.
2. Track your progress and blood pressure once a month with the Mount Sinai Temple Wellness Ministry. (email:
[email protected])
3. Join us at the finale Holistic Health and Wellness Health Fair Heart Walk and celebrate SUCCESS- Oct 1, 2016
right here at the Mount! We can do it—together! (Proverbs 3: 5 & 6)!
For more information, please contact Sis. Stacy Offord at 512 784 0781 or email at [email protected].
