Jaya Kula 2015 Annual Report
Chills, Thrills, Spills and Shoveling Snow
Dear Mandala and Friends Everywhere,
Here is the view from my bedroom window in Maine toward the end of January 2015.
Funnily enough, the time stamp is four years to the day when we incorporated in
Oregon.
Three big changes dominated our landscape in 2015. Jaya Kula got its official 501(c)3
designation. We started running Jaya Kula as a game called Cruocracy. And we
moved into Matrika House, our very first commercial rental space.
Making these changes has been a lot of work! Sort of like shoveling snow, with a
healthy dose of excitement and fear thrown in. But our hard work and courage has
paid off. Today, after the chills, thrills and spills of 2015, our community is energized,
cohesive and more focused than ever before.
We also feel more confident. Many students learned afresh that when you follow
wisdom, even when it asks you to take risks, the result is always greater relaxation,
clarity and energy.
2016 brings in the energy of the fire monkey - a whole year of playful improvisation.
And guess what? We are ready!
Thanks to each and every one of you for not only coming along for the ride, but helping
to energize and steer the course.
Jai Guru!
Jai Playfulness!
Love,
Shambhavi
Jaya Kula 2015 Highlights
January

•
Shambhavi starts the year on retreat.
The Board of Directors begins working on our 501(c)3 application. Yeah, with all
of the attachments, it ends up being 45 pages long. So just imagine us working
on it like forever. . . Because that’s how it feels to us!
February
•
•
Shambhavi’s February PDX trip gathers together the largest Tantra Foundations
ever. More than 30 people participate.
The Board keeps working on our 501(c)3 application.
March

•
•
•
March 3: We start using Slack! (Our online global communications platform)
Shambhavi teaches a Jyotish series for the first time. A lot of people on both

As part of our 501(c)3 application process, we reincorporate in Maine.
Our 501(c)3 application. . . It’s. Still. Happening.
April
•
April 21: 501(c)3 application submitted to IRS!! Ta da!!
May (BIG MONTH)
•
May 11th: Cruocracy bombshell dropped on unsuspecting Mandala. Thrills,
chills and spills ensue. Cruocracy becomes the game of the land – organizing
and energizing all of the collaborations among students running Jaya Kula. For
the historical record, here is the related Asana task. Check.
•
May 21: Our 501(c)3 is approved by the IRS in record time. We are now
officially a tax exempt, non-profit church.
June
•
•
•
•
Sometime in the beginning of June, a disgruntled neighbor complains about
Jaya Kula to the South Portland, Maine zoning office. We are ordered to stop
holding teachings at Kashi House! YIKES!
We shift into high gear and find our new home and very first commercial rental
space in the historic district in Portland, Maine.
Shambhavi names our new space Matrika House.
Oh - and a lot of sevites are busy getting ready for moving by July 1.
JULY
•
•
•
•
July 5: Teachings begin at Matrika House.
July 29 - August 2: We hold our annual Meditation Retreat and Guru Purnima
festival at Merrill House in Andover, Maine.
At the retreat, we welcome new initiates Bhanudas, Charandas, Ambhojini,
Bhadrakali, Kailashi and Viresha.
Students throw a Bollywood dance party for Shambhavi’s birthday and give her
a lovely rose petal mala.
2015 retreat Bollywood dance finale!

A bunch of new, younger donors make 3-year pledges to the Trident Fund. Yay
for up-and-coming young folk!
49 members of our Mandala are participating in Milk Ghee Ojas, our monthly
donation program.
Combined, these donations now make up about half of our annual budget. So
heartwarming.

goddesses or Mahavidyas.
November
