Anschaulich und kompetent verschafft der „hit guide imm cologne 2008“ einen Überblick
über die großen und kleinen Highlights der Messe und hält darüber hinaus viele

Highlights innovations trends
A trade and communication panel for the international furniture and furnishings sector,
an impulse-provider with design competence and expertise – that is what
imm cologne 2008 stands for. The ideal place to discover spectacular new products,
innovations and the trends of tomorrow.
In its graphic and competent style, the “hit guide imm cologne 2008” provides journalists
from over the world with an overview of the big and small highlights at the fair
along with many useful tips and information. It was no easy task for the “hit scouts” to
view and select the most interesting and attractive items from the total of over
300 new products and innovations, registered by the imm exhibitors in the run-up to
the Fair.
In contrast to the “Compasso d’Oro” International Design Award exhibited at the Fair,
the “hit guide” is not a design award. It rather seeks to draw attention to the special
product highlights at the imm cologne. However, good design quality is also a criterion
for selection in the hit guide as are the innovative character of a product, degree of
technical innovation, new materials or simply a stylish product idea.
The one or other exceptional product, which has not made it into the “hit guide”
for time reasons, you may find in the “last minutes” on the press internet page – or perhaps
on your own very personal tour of the fair.

Möbelumsatz steigt weltweit
Die weltweite Möbelproduktion betrug im Jahr 2006 rund 387 Mrd. Euro, das sind 7 Prozent
mehr als im Vorjahr. Auch für 2007 sowie 2008 und die kommenden Jahre wird ein
weltweiter Jahreszuwachs von mindestens 7 Prozent erwartet. Die größten Möbelnationen
sind derzeit die USA mit einem Anteil an der weltweiten Möbelproduktion von
21 Prozent, gefolgt von China mit 17 Prozent. Die 25 europäischen Länder produzieren
zusammen rund 45 Prozent. Europa stellt den weltweit größten Möbelmarkt dar.
Der größte Teil der in Europa verkauften Möbel stammt nach wie vor aus europäischer
Produktion – lediglich etwas mehr als ein Fünftel entfällt derzeit auf die Importe
außerhalb der EU. Allerdings nimmt die internationale Arbeitsteilung von Jahr zu Jahr
zu – bei Exporten und Importen zeichnen sich deutliche Zuwächse ab.
Innerhalb Europas stellt Deutschland den wichtigsten Möbelmarkt dar. Im wirtschaftlich
stabilen Umfeld konnte die deutsche Möbelindustrie – angespornt durch weitere
Wachstumsprognosen – im vergangenen Jahr ein Wachstum von gut 5 Prozent erzielen.
Diese Umsatzzuwächse wurden nahezu ausschließlich im Auslandsgeschäft erreicht.
Das Inlandsgeschäft hingegen in Deutschland stagnierte. Die deutsche Möbelindustrie
entwickelt sich mehr und mehr zur Exportbranche. Für 2007 wurde erstmals eine
Exportquote von 40 Prozent erzielt.
„Made in Germany“ ist weltweit gefragt: deutsche Möbel punkten mit Design und
ausgezeichneter Qualität. Der Gesamtumsatz 2007 lag bei rund 19,3 Mrd. €.

Furniture turnover increasing worldwide
In 2006 worldwide furniture production reached a volume of around 387 billion Euro
corresponding to 7 percent more than the previous year. Once again for 2007as well as
2008 and the next years a worldwide annual increase of at least 7 percent is expected.
The largest furniture-producing nations are currently the USA with a 21-percent share
of worldwide furniture production, followed by China with 17 percent. The 25
European countries together account for around 45 percent of production output,
while Europe represents the world’s largest furniture market. The majority of furniture
sold in Europe continues to come from European production – only around a little
more than one fifth is currently accounted for by imports from outside the EU.
However, the international labour division is increasing from year to year – and there
are indications of clear increases in exports and imports.
Within Europe Germany represents the leading furniture market. In an economically
stable environment the German furniture industry – spurred on by other growth
forecasts – last year achieved growth of around 5 percent. These sales increases were
attained almost exclusively in foreign trade. In contrast domestic business in Germany
stagnated. The German furniture industry is increasingly developing into an export
sector. For 2007 an export quota of 40 percent was reached for the first time.
“Made in Germany” is in worldwide demand: German furniture scores with design and
excellent quality. In 2007 total sales reached a volume of around 19.3 billion €.

According to the manufacturer, a new
quality in modular furniture systems has
been achieved with this flexible-dimension
and innovative connector unit.
It enables tailor-made furniture to be
created, which can be repeatedly extended
or converted without a great deal of
effort or expense. It is all made possible
by the patented furniture connectors
which are invisible and removable at all
times. In this connection, complex
structures at any required angle can be
effortlessly created, thus removing the
need for further edge finishing or the use
of furniture fittings. The three-dimensional,
deformed system shelf presented here
not only finds application in the contract
furnishings or architecture sector, but
also has its (favourite) place in the area

as it is 100% recycable. The surface
consists of durable polypropylene, which

the menu: underneath the Swiss innovation

bass-reflex speaker. The tabletop in
varnished MDF accommodates a flushrecessed docking station which makes the
sound sensation perfect, because as

Gigantic tops are skilfully combined with
dainty, delicate optics by the “Varion E 7”
table model. Although the optically
attractive solid-wood top can be produced
in a length of up to 4 metres, the statics
aspect is fine, because beneath the table
a patented trigonometric system with a
taught steel rope ensures the necessary
stability. Due to the extreme bevelling
on the edges, the 28mm thick tabletop
is reduced to a minimalist 5mm.

pünktlich zur imm cologne 2008 durch
ein flexibles und leichtes Boxensystem aus
dem Werkstoff Alucobond ergänzt.
Der individuellen Gestaltungsfreiheit der
Boxen sind keine Grenzen gesetzt:
so werden die Fronten beispielsweise in
fünf verschiedenen Glasvarianten
offeriert, alternativ können die Korpusse
auch mit einer Front aus Alucobond
kombiniert werden Unterschiedliche Breiten
und Höhen sowie drei verschiedene
Tiefen bieten für jede Raumsituation die
passende Lösung. Vielseitig einsetzbar
machen sie beispielsweise als Hifi-Möbel,
Sideboard, Bücherregal oder Garderobe
eine gute Figur. Dabei ist das Boxensystem
ausgesprochen benutzerfreundlich

Kleeblatt mit Wipp
Das Glück ist das einzige, das sich verdoppelt,
wenn man es teilt.
Dieser Sinnspruch von Albert Schweitzer
passt perfekt zum frechen Hocker „Optimist“
des jungen Designers Klaus Hokamp.
Denn wer auf dem kleinen Möbel Platz
nimmt, hat das Glück quasi gepachtet,
denn der „Optimist“ ist formal einem
Kleeblatt nachempfunden. Der untere Teil
des Hockers ist wie bei einem Stehaufmännchen gefertigt und macht das Möbel
zum beweglichen Sitzobjekt. Geeignet ist
die Neuheit, die in verschiedenen Höhen
zu haben ist, sowohl für den Objekt- als
auch den Wohnbereich. Besonders den
kleinen „Kunden“ und Romantikern dürfte
beim Anblick des witzigen Wippers das
Herz aufgehen.
Clover leaf with seesaw effect

share it. This motto from Albert Schweitzer
is perfectly apt in describing the cheeky
“Optimist” stool created by young designer
Klaus Hokamp. Anyone who decides to
sit on this small furniture item secures
themselves a piece of luck so to speak,
because “Optimist” is designed in the shape
of a clover leaf. The lower section of the
stool is designed like a roly-poly doll which
makes the furniture item a moving
seating object. The innovation, which is
available in different heights, is suitable

organisch-dynamischen Radien der

Even large home furnishings landscapes
convey a transparent and lightweight
impression thanks to foregoing high
backrests. The architectural rigidity of the
cubist outline is livened up by the organicdynamic radii of the backrest and the
large, soft cushions with innovative,
integrated support modules. When placed
on the backrest or sidepiece, the crescentshaped reinforced elements in polyether
foam integrated in the cushions securely
hold the sofa cushions in place enabling
comfortable, upright seating. As a result,
despite the low backrest, you do not have

Ein starker Auftritt
Elegant und selbstbewußt wirkt die
Polstergruppe „Stretto“, die der niederländische Designer Henk Heres für Durlet
entworfen hat. Das kubistische, klare Design
des Sofas paßt sich jedem modernen
Wohnfeld perfekt an, behält dabei aber
seinen ausgesprochen ausdrucksvollen
Charakter. Bei der Herstellung wurden die
Nähte bewusst unsichtbar gehalten, um
die Wirkung der edlen Lederflächen nicht
zu beeinträchtigen.
Das im letzten Jahr vorgestellte Modell
wurde nun als Kombinations-Programm
auf den Markt gebracht: ganz im Trend
der flexiblen Polstermöbel können die
Armelemente bei Bedarf durch Eckelemente
oder Chaiselongues ersetzt werden – schon
entsteht eine gemütliche Kuschel-Ecke.
An impressive presentation
Elegant and self-assured is the impression
conveyed by the “Stretto” sofa group,
created by Dutch designer Henk Heres
for Durlet. The sofa’s cubist, clear design
perfectly adapts to every modern home
furnishings environment whilst retaining
its extremely expressive character. In the
production process, the upholstery seams
have been consciously kept invisible in order
not to impair the effect of the exquisite
leather elements. The model unveiled
last year has now been launched on the
market as a settee combination: fully in
keeping with the trend towards flexible
upholstered furniture, the arm elements,
if required, can be replaced with corner
features or chaise longues thus creating a
cosy, snug corner unit.
Klassiker von morgen
Für kein geringeres als das berühmte
Drei-Sterne-Restaurant „Hof van Cleve“
im Museum of Fine Arts in Brüssel
hat der Designer Antonio Pinto den Stuhl
„Brussels“ entworfen.
Inspiriert wurde er vom historischen
Umfeld Brüssels, das Ergebnis ist ein auf
alten Traditionen basierender, jedoch
zeitgemäßer und bequemer Stuhl.
Zwischenzeitlich ist das Designerstück Teil
der permanenten Ausstellung des
Museum of Fine Arts in Brüssel. Und Durlet
hat zwischenzeitlich die vierbeinige(!)
Version in seine Kollektion aufgenommen.
Tomorrow’s classic
Designer Antonio Pinto has created the
“Brussels” chair for no less than the
famous “Hof van Cleve” 3-star restaurant
at the Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels.
It was inspired by the historical surrounding
area of Brussels, the result is a chair based
on old traditions, yet an object which
is both contemporary and comfortable.
The designer item is now part of the
permanent exhibition at the Museum of
Fine Arts in Brussels and Durlet has now
included the four-legged (!) version in its
collection.

Inspired by the 1960s, the sliding doors
from the 1500 series created by raumplus
bring swing and cheerfulness to the
bedroom. Pink-varnished glass inserts in
silver anodized frames and individuallyprinted foil behind glass radiate a happy,
cheerful mood the whole year through.
Behind this façade we find the Legno
interior room system which offers tailormade storage space. The sliding doors in
colour-coordinated ceiling and floor rails
extend flush into the corner.
Optimum transparency is provided by the
integrated stud lighting.

Staring Eyes
High product quality and first class
partnerships have always been characteristic
for the danish company. “Eyes” is designed
by the architects Johannes Foersom and
Peter Hiort-Lorenzen. The slenderly
proportioned chair is the most recent result
of their partnership with Erik Joergensen
which started almost 25 years ago and
has resulted in more than 20 pieces of
furniture. The chair is versatile in its use
and suits private homes as well as
contract settings: a conference chair, an
exclusive dining chair or a waiting room
chair in public and private spaces.
Eye-catching detail: the buttons in the
back of the chair resemble staring eyes,
hence the name.
Material: cold cured polyurethane faom,
steel foot.

The multi-functional dining table
produced in cooperation with furniture
specialist Draenert and kitchen professional
Poggenpohl not only fully reflects the
trend of the times whilst setting an optical
highlight, it also offers a great deal of
functionality and the most innovative
technology. The adjustable table in natural
stone, also optionally available in MDF
veneer, is opened gently and noiselessly
along its longitudinal axis manually or
with the option of an adjustment motor.
A multi-functional area is then revealed,
which if required, can be equipped with
stainless steel plates, cutlery box or
bread/carving board. Another very practical
feature: the trolley in matching varnish
can be space-savingly parked in the table
fronts.

For more than 20 years Philippe Starck, star
and enfant terrible of the international
design scene, has been creating extraordinary design objects for Driade. The
classic shape of his latest creation “PIP-e”
furthermore hides a daring technology,
evolution of the formal possibilities offered
by gas molding. Comfortable, with
limited dimensions and attractive colours,
the lightweight chair is perfectly designed
for use in the contract business and home
use, as well – indoor and outdoor.

moulded with nitrogen gas and with a 25%
fiberglass filler.

Einfache, orthogonale Formen sind nicht
gerade das Markenzeichen des internationalen Spitzendesigners Ron Arad. Es sind
vielmehr die organischen, voluminösen,
naturgetreuen Formen wie die bereits für
driadestore entworfenenen Sitzmöbel
der MT-Reihe, die den Designer faszinieren.
Sein jüngstes Produkt für Driade ist ein
kleiner Monobloc Armlehnstuhl in Form
eines vierblättrigen Kleeblatts und heißt
entsprechend „Clover“. Exzellentes Design,
Funktionalität und nahezu endlose
Verwendungsmöglichkeiten kennzeichnen
das Multitalent. Vielseitig einsetzbar für

characteristic for the international top
class designer Ron Arad – as it is shown
for example in the MT series he already
designed for driadestore .
He prefers organic, voluminous shapes
inspired by nature, as in the project of
the MT seats he designed for driadestore.
“Clover” is a small monobloc armchairsculpture in the shape of a four-leaf clover.
Excellent design, utmost funcionality and
nearly endless possibilities to use are the
main characteristics of this multi talent.
It fits perfectly for bars, restaurants,
swimming pools, hotel lobbies or as a
creative object in modern offices. At home
the compact chair is perfect for garden

Ob freistehend als funktionelles Solitärmöbel (mit einem Drehwinkel von
180 Grad), oder auf einer Podestplatte
integriert in eine Wohnwandlösung
(mit einem Drehwinkel von 35 Grad), das
Mediencenter ist durchdacht in jeder
Hinsicht. Für Perfektion sorgt die Kabelzuführung, die durch den Drehbeschlag im
Inneren des Elements erfolgt. Eine Klappe
erlaubt den einfachen Zugang für die
Installation neuer Geräte.

standing as a functional piece of standalone furniture (with a rotation angle of
180 degrees) or on a platform integrated
in a wall unit solution (with a 35 degree
rotation angle), the media centre has been
well thought-out and designed in every
respect. Perfection is ensured by the cable
feed through the swivel fitting in the
element’s interior. A flap ensures easy access
for the installation of new appliances.
Particularly attractive are the combinations
in wood and varnish.

von interlübke. Zur Weiterentwicklung des

all diese Neuerungen perfekt einfasst. Die

ergänzen das Programm ideal. Besonders
attraktiv wirken die neuen Kommoden
durch ihre unterschiedlichen Aufteilungen.

interlübke. The Swiss designers have come

Rassiger kann sich ein Tisch kaum in die
Kurve legen! Der S-Table des Belgiers
Xavier Lust ist in jeder Hinsicht ein ästhetischer Hochgenuss. Formale Sinnlichkeit,

Schließlich setzt sich der belgische Designer
schon seit Jahren mit den unterschiedlichsten Materialien und ihrer Verformbarkeit

Curvy star in form
A table can hardly present a racier set of
curves! The S-Table from Belgian designer
Xavier Lust represents the finest in aesthetic
pleasure in every respect, a piece of
formal sensuality which is the result of
very hard work. After all, the Belgian
designer has for years been concerning
himself with the most diverse materials
and their plasticity. “For me innovation
is the key concept to every creation,” said
the young designer. The new product made
of synthetic materials, which impresses
with building-like design characteristics,
ensures that this concept succeeds
once again. The table is available in
diameters of 140 and 156cm respectively.

In geschlossenem Zustand ist „Table Chair“
ein Beistelltisch mit schwarzer Hochglanzoberfläche und Füssen in poliertem
Edelstahl.
Beim Öffnen präsentiert sich überraschend
eine einladende Sitzfläche – aus dem

sind mit feinem Leder bezogen.

Zwei moderne Klassiker

A modular furniture item in classic modern
style is embodied by the “baureihe b”
from weko. There is a deliberate decision
here to forego excessively deep immersion
in soft seating cushions, on the contrary
the philosophy is geared to an ergonomic
seating posture.
Also unmistakable as the trademark of the
famous contemporaries Rietveld or Eames
is the signature of designer Rob Parry
born in 1925 in The Hague. In his most
active creative period between 1945 and
1960 he also designed this model.

surface finish. Montana is thus one of the
first European manufacturers to produce
furniture in a finish created by a highly
resistant water-based varnish.
This varnish emits as good as no solvents
and no formaldehyde at all.

Viel Raffinesse und „ausgezeichnetes Design“
kennzeichnen das Banksystem „Gate“,
das aus unterschiedlichen linearen und
additiven Moduleinheiten besteht. Das
modulare Konstruktionsprinzip ermöglicht
die ganz individuelle Zusammenstellung
und beliebige Erweiterung des Systems

die speziell für den Objektbereich gewählten Maße: die Sitzhöhe beträgt 46cm,

Flexibility is trumps when it comes to
the new “Ayus” sofa range which enables
home furnishings to be creatively designed
and planned in a future-orientated
approach. The sofa is available as a 3-seater,
2-seater and with many combinable
attachments. Up to four different seat
heights as well as continuously-adjustable
seat depths ranging from 55 to 72cm
perfectly fulfil the changing requirements
placed on seating and relaxation postures.
Relaxed lazing around is just as possible
as is an upright seated position and
comfortable getting up. The seat comfort
is guaranteed through the pocket spring
suspension and combination of foams
with different degrees of hardness.

Fast schon ein Meisterwerk in Sachen
Glaskunst stellt der Tisch „Steel“ aus dem
Hause Glas Italia dar. Mit spielerischer
Leichtigkeit überspannt die 19mm Glasplatte die verschiedensten Breiten und
Tiefen (ab 180 x 80cm).
Doch auch größere Flächen aus dem
transparenten Material aus Quarzsand sind
möglich. In bis zu 3,50 Meter Länge – bei
einer Breite von bis 100cm – kann das
Modell gefertigt werden. Bei dieser gigantischen Größe sorgen dann allerdings zwei
zusätzliche Füße aus 40mm Stahlrohr
für Stabilität. Da Beine und Tischplatte
miteinander verklebt sind, stört nichts die
pure Ausstrahlung des Glasmöbels.
A giant in glass
The “Steel” table from Glas Italia is almost
a masterpiece when it comes to glass art.
With playful ease the 19mm glass top
spans the most diverse widths and depths
(from 180 x 80cm).
But larger elements made of the
transparent, quartz sand-based material are
also possible. The model can be produced
in a length up to 3.50 metres with a
width of up to 100cm. Given this gigantic
size, stability is however ensured by two
additional feet in 40mm steel tubing.
As the legs and table top are glued together,
there is nothing to disturb the pure
radiance of this glass-art furniture.

Clever rotation
The signature of the internationallyrenowned designer Stefan Heiliger, who
has already created a number of successful
products for the Italian company, is also
significant for his new creation.
The two-seater is simple, geometric and
in particular comfortable. The back section,
which is completely leather-covered,
exudes elegance while two cushions offer
additional comfort. The functional secret
is the movement mechanism integrated
in the seating space: with just one simple
rotation, the sofa is transformed into a
chaise longue.

Experts regard this production technology
as a future-orientated process: injection
moulding. For two years top designer
Karim Rashid and Italian label Bonaldo
have been jointly experimenting with this
innovative technology and the production
material polycarbonate. The material is
processed using a powerful press, whereby
the press also serves as a mould.
The result presented at imm is called “Poly”
and is an exceptionally striking eye-catcher
with its geometric design. The model is
available in transparent colours such as
black and white.
Suitable for indoor and outdoor
applications.

Mitgewandert
Eine echte Innovation steckt in Xross,
dem ersten seitlich erweiterbaren
Auszugstisch, bei dem das Untergestell
mitwandert. Per einfachem Tastendruck
und ohne Kraftaufwand kann der Tisch
spielend um 1 Meter vergrößert werden.
Das auf Rollen laufende Mittelfußgestell

Perfectly coordinated movement
A genuine innovation is offered by Xross,
the first laterally extendible pull-out
table, which features a coordinated moving
sub-frame. Simply at the touch of a
button and without any physical effort,
the table can be easily extended by 1 metre.
The central-foot frame running on
castors thus provides optimum static
support for the top extended from 2 to 3
metres; at the same time the frame
configuration offers optimum leg room
with every table size. A striking design
element is the foot in anodized aluminium.
With optimum statics, the cross base
intelligently docks with the newly
developed retraction rail system. It thus
creates space in the upper section for the
outward-rotating extension tops whilst
simultaneously ensuring a stable base in
the lower section.

neu entwickelten Material, dessen Kontrast
aus transparentem und schwarzen Gewebe
(Lycra/Polyester) besonders reizvoll wirkt.

Made completely of aluminium and with
a back cover consisting of airy, transparent
elastic fabric, it is ultra-comfortable in
all seating positions. The elastic fabric
consists of a newly developed material,
which with its contrast in transparent and
black fabric (lycra/polyester), conveys a
particularly attractive impression.

Tugendhaft
Der aus St. Petersburg stammende Architekt
Sergius Ruegenberg (1903 – 1996) war von
1925 – 34 im Büro von Mies van der Rohe
beschäftigt. Er war Bauleiter des deutschen
Pavillons bei der Weltausstellung 1929 in
Barcelona, für den er die Rohfassung des
berühmten Barcelona-Sessels entwarf.
Ende der 80er Jahre entstanden in enger
Zusammenarbeit mit Axel Bruchhäuser
Zeichnungen und Entwürfe für TECTA
und einen hinterbeinlosen «Tugendhaften
Sessel» über den Ruegenberg schrieb:
«Sein Geheimnis ist die Federung».
Als Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit wurde
der „tugendhafte“ Ruegenberg-Sessel
realisiert, der nun zum ersten Mal in Serie
produziert wird.

Virtuous
Architect Sergius Ruegenberg (1903 – 1996),
born in St. Petersburg, worked at the
Mies van der Rohe office from 1925 – 34.
He was the site manager at the German
Pavilion at the 1929 World Exposition in
Barcelona, for which he created the
preliminary version of the famous Barcelona
armchair. At the end of the 1980s, in
close cooperation with Axel Bruchhäuser,
drawings and drafts were produced for
TECTA and a “Virtuous Armchair” without
rear legs about which Ruegenberg wrote:
“Its secret lies in the suspension”. Resulting
from this cooperation the “virtuous”
Ruegenberg armchair was created, which
has now gone into series production for
the first time.

Manchmal fnden sich in der eigenen
Geschichte eines Unternehmens Möbel,
die alle Voraussetzungen für einen Klassiker
haben. Edwards, ein Sofaprogramm aus
dem Jahr 1981 des amerikanischen, in
Paris lebenden Architekten Edward Tuttle,
überzeugte das Wittmann-Team ob seiner Aktualität und Eigenständigkeit
aufs Neue. Edwards wird wie damals als
Fauteuil, Sofa und Chaiselongue produziert.
Die Unverwechselbarkeit entsteht aus
der Spannung zwischen innen und außen,

Every so often a company rediscovers a
piece of furniture with all the makings
of a true classic when taking another
look at its own history. Edwards, a sofa
group by Paris-based American architect
Edward Tuttle dating back to 1981, caught
the imagination of the Wittmann team
because its individualistic approach
has lost none of its freshness. Edwards is
making its comeback as an armchair,
sofa and chaise longue. Its unique
appearance derives from the tension
between inside and outside created by the
exquisite workmanship of the deepbuttoned upholstery on the interior and
the smooth external surfaces.
This duality is particularly attractive in
the chaise longue.

In the tradition of the English club
chair, which inspired this classic design
by Charles and Ray Eames, the original
appearance of the Lounge Chair was
defined by a dark wood veneer and black
leather. However, an early version with
light-coloured leather upholstery has
also been created. Now Vitra introduces
a new interpretation of the Lounge Chair,
developed in cooperation with
Hella Jongerius and the Eames Office.
With white leather, polished aluminium
and walnut veneer in a light finish, the new

Raffinierte Einblicke
Aurea ist mehr als ein Couchtisch – Aurea
ist eine Skulptur, ein Meditationsobjekt.
Die kreisrunde, im Durchmesser 110cm
große Glasplatte ruht auf einem kegelförmigen Fuß, der nach oben hin offen ist
und den Blick auf sein Inneres freigibt.
Der Fuß ist innen vergoldet oder versilbert,
außen hochglänzend in schwarz oder weiß
lackiert. So ergibt sich durch die Glasplatte
hindurch ein interessantes Wechselspiel
der Formen und Farben. Obwohl der
Tisch leicht aussieht, ist er äußerst stabil
und bruchsicher. Die klaren Farben passen
sich jeder Einrichtung an. Aurea ist in
der niedrigen Variante (Höhe 34cm) als
Couchtisch gedacht, kann aber auch in
einer höheren Version als Beistelltisch
benutzt werden.

Refined insights
Aurea is more than a coffee or occasional
table – Aurea is a sculpture, a meditation
object. The circular-shaped glass top with
110cm diameter is supported by a conical
foot which opens out towards the top
revealing its interior. The foot interior is
gilded or silvered, while its exterior is high
gloss in black or white varnish. As a result,
a look through the glass top reveals an
interesting interplay between forms and
colours. Although the table looks
lightweight, it is extremely stable and
break-proof. The clear colours match every
furnishings environment. In its low
variation (height 34cm), Aurea is designed
as a coffee table, but can also be used as
a side table in its taller version.
Geometrisches Design
Der Couchtisch Tetis aus dem Hause
Christine Kröncke perfektioniert das Spiel
mit der Geometrie als Designfaktor:
er besteht aus vier einzelnen Vierecken,
die durch ihre Anordnung ein Ganzes
ergeben. Jedes der Elemente ist beweglich:
so können die Kuben aneinander gereiht
als Bank oder einzeln als Hocker inszeniert
werden. Die Innenseiten der Kuben sind
vergoldet oder versilbert und gehen mit
den Hochglanzoberflächen (in diversen
Farben) eine reizvolle Verbindung ein.
In seiner Grundform misst Tetis 100 x
100cm. Durch das Spiel mit den Kuben
kann der Couchtisch in unterschiedlichen
Varianten positioniert und perfekt an
die Umgebung angepasst werden – der
Gestaltungsfreiheit sind keine Grenzen
gesetzt.
Geometrical design
The Tetis coffee table from Christine Kröncke
perfects the interplay with geometry as a
design factor: it consists of four individual
squares which form a whole element
through their configuration. Each of the
elements is movable: as a result the cubes
can be aligned to form a bench or
individually positioned as stools.
The interiors of the cubes are gilded or
silvered and form a charming, attractive
combination with the high-gloss surfaces
(in diverse colours). In its basic form Tetis
measures 100cm x 100cm. Thanks to the
interaction with the cubes, the coffee table
can be positioned in various combinations
and perfectly adapted to the environment – there are no limits to the design
and creative scope.

Charming contrasts
Kitchen P´7340 is characterized by an
innovative frame style, purist design and
the use of high-quality materials. The new
kitchen is based on different-sized frames
in aluminium profiles. Within the
aluminium frames, the cupboard elements
can be positioned as required. The kitchen
is lent an innovative and technical look
by the use of aluminium which is typical
of Porsche Design. A further material used
is glass: varnished on the reverse in subdued
colours and available in a satinized or
glossy variation, it finds application in the
fronts or as a filling for the frame.
Forming an exciting contrast to these
cool materials, two wood variations are
available for the front design: Driftwood
and Dark Oak.

Funktionsraum Küche in den Wohn- und
Lebensbereich. Die flächig geschlossene
Wandgestaltung vermittelt Eleganz und
Ruhe. Technik und Funktion sind erst auf den
zweiten Blick erkennbar. Die in der Küche
gewohnte Einteilung in Unterschrank/Nische/Hängeschrank wird hier grundlegend
neu definiert. Das Gestaltungsprinzip ist
die flächige Verkleidung der gesamten
Wand oberhalb der Arbeitsplatte mit
einem gleichmässigen Raster von 40cm
hohen und 80 bzw. 90 oder 100cm breiten
Aufsatzschränken.
Charakteristisch für das Innenausstattungssystem „M-Space“ ist die optimal gelöste
Raumorganisation auf zwei Ebenen, bei
der Schubladen- und Auszugselemente
gestapelt und auf Gleitschienen seitlich
verfahren werden können.

The flat, compact wall design conveys
elegance and quietness, while the technical
and functional aspects only reveal
themselves at second glance. The usual
kitchen partitioning in floor cupboard/
niche/wall cupboard is fundamentally
redefined here. The design principle
entails flat cladding for the whole wall
above the worktop with even frame
units of 40cm tall and 80, 90 or 100cm wide
top cupboard units.
A characteristic feature of the “M-Space”
interior design system is the optimally
separated space organization on two levels,
in which drawer and pull-out elements
can be stacked and moved laterally on
sliding rails.

Balton Living is launching its designorientated home furnishings range and
opening up the structure of the classic
ladder furniture system. Filigree ladder
structures in chrome metal form the
supporting vertical elements. Bases in
white varnish with walnut wood-coloured
edges create a highlighted horizontal
contrast. Carcass furniture can be installed
between the ladders or separated and
used as stand-alone furniture elements.
The restricting ladder structure is interrupted thus enabling flexible combinations
for full and individual solutions. Also new
are the large design widths (up to 1.65m)
which can be produced through sandwich
bases without central supports.

The fact that bed-sofas do not necessarily
have to be boring is proved by the
“Cassius” model with lots of comfort
and style. With classic elegance and many
creative design features such as striking
quilted patterns, soft cushions and cool
chrome runners, “Cassius” cuts an impressive
figure in all rooms.
With just a few simple hand movements,
the sofa is transformed into a comfortable
double bed with healthy pocket sprung
padding. Tidiness is ensured by the
integrated under-bed drawer.

Stauraum gibt es nie genug. In dieser
Anrichte lassen sich Mediencenter, Bar,
Geschirr und vieles mehr praktisch unterbringen. Die ansprechende Frontteilung
der drei Schiebetüren hat nicht nur
gestalterischen Charakter, sondern birgt
auch eine technische Finesse: durch das
spezielle Schiebesystem wird ermöglicht,
daß jeweils die Hälfte der Anrichte in
einem Zug geöffnet und so bequem
bedient werden kann. Das mittlere, breite
Schiebebeelement wird durch eine clevere
Synchromsteuerung automatisch mit
bewegt.

This sideboard can practically accommodate a media centre, bar, crockery and
much more. The attractive front layout of
the three sliding doors not only has a
design character, it also conceals a technical
refinement: the special sliding system
enables half the sideboard to open at once
thus ensuring convenient operation and
use. The central, broad sliding element is
automatically moved simultaneously by
a clever synchronized control mechanism.

Aus den Holzresten des Regenwaldes
schaffen Designer, Künstler und Handwerker
in der EcoCraft Werkstatt in Ghana ausgefallene Möbel und Kunstobjekte.
EcoCraft steht im Zusammenhang mit den
Agroforst-Projekten, die mit Unterstützung
internationaler Organisationen den
Menschen in Ghana eine gezielte Ausbildung
in Ressourcenschutz, Landwirtschaft
und Handwerk ermöglichen. Die Produkte
werden von Hand gefertigt, wobei besonderer Wert auf den nachhaltigen Umgang
mit Natur und Umwelt gelegt wird.
Mit einfachen gestalterischen Mitteln wird
eine hohle Baumscheibe dekorative Skulptur
und praktisches Sideboard.

Using the residual wood from the rain
forest, designers, artists and craftsmen at
the EcoCraft workshop in Ghana have
created exceptional furniture and works of
art. EcoCraft is involved with the Agroforst
projects, which with the support of
international organizations, enable people
in Ghana to undergo specific training in
natural resources protection and conservation, agriculture, technology and the skilled
trades. The products are made by hand,
whereby special significance is attached to
the sustainable use and treatment of
nature and the environment. Using simple
design tools, a hollow slice of tree trunk
becomes a decorative sculpture and
practical sideboard.

The hit guide does not have the status of
a design award. The task of the “hit scouts”
is rather to view and assess the most
interesting and attractive items from the
large number of products submitted by
the exhibitors as new products/innovations,
and to select them for the hit guide.
In the selection, the “design” criterion is

however also taken into account, as is
the innovative character of a product,
the technical innovation or its further
development, the application of new
materials, an exhibitor’s new product line
or simply only the clever idea.
