mit D3 Schools im Congress-Saal des Congress-Centrums
Ost und dem D3 Contest sowie den D3 Professionals in Halle
3.2 ein vielfältiges Angebot für die Nachwuchsdesigner
der Designszene. Tauchen Sie ein in die Welt des jungen
Avantgarde-Designs.
This year in a changed mode, the D3 Design talents with
D3 Schools in the Congress-Saal of the Congress Centre East
and the D3 Contest, as well as the D3 Professionals in Hall 3.2
offer a multifaceted range of design. Be fascinated by the
world of young avant-garde design!
[D3] CONTEST
Der internationale Designwettbewerb D3 Contest bietet
Studenten und Absolventen ein Forum, ihre Ideen für Möbel,
Leuchten und Einrichtungsobjekte einem internationalen Publikum zu präsentieren. In diesem Jahr wurde die Rekordzahl
von 862 Produkten zum Wettbewerb angemeldet, aus denen
28 Produkte ausgewählt und damit 35 Designer aus 10 Ländern nach Köln eingeladen wurden.

The international design competition D3 Contest offers students
and graduates a great chance to present their ideas for furniture, lighting, and furnishing to an international audience. This
year a record of 862 products have applied for the contest, from
which 28 products have been chosen and therewith 35 designers from 10 countries have been invited to come to Cologne.

Im Bereich D3 Professionals präsentieren junge unabhängige
Gestalter und Designstudios ihre Kreationen. In diesem Jahr
finden Sie die jungen kreativen Ideen in der Halle 3.2 des

At the D³ Professional area, independent young designers and
design studios present their creations. This year you will find the
creative ideas in Hall 3.2. next to Pure Village. | Hall 3.2

D3 Schools ist das Forum für Hochschulen mit den Fachbereichen Produktdesign, Innenarchitektur oder Architektur, die
mit Produktausstellungen oder räumlichen Inszenierungen ihr
kreatives Potenzial eindrucksvoll unter Beweis stellen. In diesem Jahr findet D³ Schools zusammen mit der Ramazzotti
D3 Lounge im Congress-Saal des Congress-Centrums Ost statt;
sie sind über die Halle 11.3 direkt zu erreichen.

D3 Schools is the forum for universities with departments for
product design, interior design or architecture, that gives young
designers the possibility to show off their creativity and ideas.
This year’s D3 Schools will be held along with the Ramazzotti
D3 Lounge in the Congress-Saal of the Congress Centre East,
which can be directly accessed from Hall 11.3.

Bianca Seidel
Über 12 Jahre lang führte Bianca Seidel ein eigenes, international agierendes Modelabel. In dieser
Zeit sammelte sie grundlegende Erfahrungen in der
Planung, der Produktion, im Vertrieb und Marketing.
Heute ist Bianca Seidel als Coach und Beraterin für
Designer tätig. Sie unterstützt diese zum einen beim
Start in die Selbstständigkeit, ob nun mit einem eigenen Unternehmen
oder als Freelancer; zum anderen hilft sie Designern bei der Festigung
ihrer Unternehmen.
Bianca Seidel headed her own international fashion label for more
than 12 years. During this period she gained experience in planning,
production, distribution and marketing. Today Ms. Seidel works as a
coach and consultant for designers. She helps them as they venture into
self- employment, whether with their own company or as freelancers.
She also helps designers to establish their own business.
Immo Schiller
Als Texter und Konzeptioner in großen Werbeagenturen hat Immo Schiller im Laufe der Jahre für viele
namhafte Kunden wie beispielsweise BMW oder
die Deutsche Bahn gearbeitet. Heute arbeitet er als
Creative Director bei der Werbeagentur argonauten
G2 in Düsseldorf. Darüber hinaus gibt er seine
Erfahrungen als Coach und Berater an Designer weiter.
As a copywriter and concept developer at major advertising agencies,
Immo Schiller has worked for many prestigious customers down the
years, including BMW and Deutsche Bank. Today he is a creative director
at the advertising agency argonauten G2 in Düsseldorf. He also shares
his experience as a coach and consultant with designers.

Die Talentschau der imm cologne 2011
Der internationale Nachwuchswettbewerb D3 Contest hat sich
zu einer festen Größe für Fachbesucher und Aussteller der imm
cologne entwickelt. D3 Contest bietet jungen Designern ein Forum,
ihre Ideen für Möbel, Leuchten und Einrichtungsobjekte der
Zukunft einem internationalen Publikum zu präsentieren. In diesem Jahr wurden 862 Produkte aus 45 Ländern zum Wettbewerb
eingereicht. Im Rahmen einer Ausstellung werden zur imm cologne
2011 die 28 besten Arbeiten gezeigt.
Der Wettbewerb wird jährlich zur imm cologne von der
Koelnmesse ausgelobt und wurde in Kooperation mit dem
Rat für Formgebung entwickelt und organisiert.

The Talent Show at imm cologne 2011
The international young talents competition D3 Contest has
developed into an established feature for both trade visitors and
exhibitors at imm cologne.
D3 Contest offers young designers a forum in which to present to an
international public their ideas for furniture, lighting and furnishings
of the future. This year, 862 products from 45 countries were submitted to the competition. The best 28 pieces are to be displayed in
an exhibition at imm cologne 2011.
The competition is sponsored annually at imm cologne by
Koelnmesse, and has been developed and organised in cooperation
with the German Design Council.

OLA foldable table
OLA ist ein faltbarer Tisch, der eine einfache und ergonomische
Handhabung mit einem besonderen Design kombiniert. OLA passt
perfekt in ein dynamisches Arbeitsumfeld, wie eine Schule oder
ein Konferenzzentrum. Auch zusammengeklappt steht OLA auf
seinen Beinen, wodurch die Tischplatte geschützt wird. Die Tische
können für die Aufbewahrung und den Transport platzsparend
gestapelt werden. Zwei Rücken an Rücken stehende Tische bilden
eine Einheit.
OLA is a foldable table that combines easy and ergonomic handling
with a striking appearance. OLA fits perfectly into dynamic work
environments, such as schools or conference centres. OLA stands on
its legs when folded, which protects the tabletop. The tables can be
stacked tightly and take up little space when stored or transported.

Die „eigenständigen“ Beleuchtungsobjekte können sich selbst
sowie die Objekte, die sie enthalten, erleuchten lassen. Die
Leuchten erlauben individuelle Interpretationen. Zum Beispiel kann
ein Tafelstuk als Behälter zur Präsentation von Alltagsobjekten wie
Schlüssel, Früchte oder Zeitschriften dienen.
The “complete” lighting objects illuminate themselves as well as
the objects placed in them. The lamps are open to one’s own interpretation. For example, a Tafelstuk can be used as a container for
presenting everyday objects, such as keys, fruits or a magazine.

Sealed Chair and Armchair
Sealed Chair and Armchair sind das Ergebnis der Recherche und
Entwicklung eines zugänglichen und preisgünstigen Massenfertigungsverfahrens. Die Struktur dieser Möbelstücke besteht aus drei
extrudierten Kunststoffstäben, die durch das Erhitzen in einem
Ofen biegbar gemacht werden. Nach ihrer Umformung wird eine
Schweißtechnik angewendet, um die Verbindungspunkte durch
den Schmelzvorgang zu versiegeln.
Sealed Chair and Armchair are the result of R&D into an accessible
and affordable mass production process. The chairs’ structure consists of three extruded plastic rods rendered flexible by heating them
in a kiln. After having been formed the parts are connected using a
welding technique which seals the junctures by melting the plastic.

Accordion Cabinet
Um einen rechteckigen Körper herum legt sich eine akkordeonähnlich gefaltete, hölzerne Fläche. Diese besteht aus Lamellen
verschiedener Furniere, welche mit einem textilen Trägermaterial
verbunden sind. Die Materialkombination erlaubt ein neues, überraschendes Erleben von Holz, indem es sich ähnlich einem Textil
bewegen lässt. Das Möbel lässt sich spielerisch durch Zusammenfalten öffnen.
This piece of furniture features a wooden layer folded in the manner
of an accordion, wrapped around a rectangular unit. The wooden
layer is made of lamellas of various veneers, fixed to a textile base
material. The combination of materials shows the wood in a new,
surprising light, as it can be moved similarly to a piece of fabric.
The cabinet is playfully opened by folding it.

Das Sofa Moody fordert seine Nutzer auf, sich Launen hinzugeben
und sie an ihm auszuleben. Dabei werden Spuren in vielfältigen
Formen hinterlassen, was die Persönlichkeit seiner Nutzer in den
Mittelpunkt des Raums stellt. Durch die erhöhten Ausmaße des
Bezugs und seine partielle Loslösung vom Gestell werden Eigenschaften des Stoffs in den Vordergrund gestellt, die er einbüßt,
wenn er in traditioneller Weise als straffer Bezug eingesetzt wird.
The sofa Moody encourages its users to give in to their moods and
live them out on it. In so doing, they leave marks in various forms,
which focus attention within the space on users’ personalities. The
extra-large cover and the fact that it is partially coming away from
the frame highlight the properties of the material, an element,
which is lost when the cover is used in the traditional way, tightly
stretched over the sofa.

Bidum
Bidum hat keine bestimmte Funktion. Ich begann meine Recherchen damit, Linien und Raster sowie deren Zusammenspiel und
daraus resultierende optische Täuschungen zu betrachten. Ästhetisch von Bedeutung ist natürlich auch die Art, wie sich ein Produkt
bewegt und mit seiner Umgebung interagiert. Das gefügige
Gewebe aus Federstahlbändern, die mit Textil umwickelt sind,
vibriert beim leichtesten Lüftchen, aber ohne umzustürzen oder
in sich zusammenzufallen. Ich möchte, dass jedermann es ansieht,
nähertritt, es anfasst und lächelt.
Bidum has no specific function. I started my research by observing
lines and grids, their interaction and the resulting illusions. Aesthetically the way the product moves and interacts with its surroundings
is obviously important. Made of spring steel bands wrapped in fabric,
the supple mesh vibrates with the slightest breeze without tumbling
or wrinkling. I want ordinary people to look at it, get closer, touch it
and smile.

Functional Rhythm
Dieser Tisch ist aus einer einzigen Stahlblechplatte gefertigt, die
lasergeschnitten und gefaltet wurde. Die aufgefalteten Teile des
Blechs formen die Tischbeine. Die Struktur wird am Rahmen durch
Schweißverbindungen stabilisiert. Der Prozess, der die Umwandlung von einer 2D- zu einer 3D-Form ermöglicht, steht für die
doppelsinnige Beziehung, die eine Konstruktion mit ihrem Dekor
verbindet. Die Ästhetik spiegelt die Nüchternheit des Prozesses
und den Einsatz von nur einem Material wider. Unterstützt durch
die VIA-Projektförderung.
This table is made from a single sheet of metal, laser cut and folded.
The parts of the sheet that are unfolded form the legs. The structure
is strengthened at its base by welds. The process that enables the transformation from 2D to 3D expresses the ambiguous relationship that
links structure and décor. The aesthetics reflect the sobriety of the
process and the use of a single material. VIA project assistance grant.

Ihre Abschlussarbeit realisierte das Designduo Glimpt aus Schweden in Südafrika. Zusammen mit Furntech, Südafrikas Kompetenzzentrum für Holzarbeiten, und den Keramikern von The Potters
Workshop in Kapstadt hat Glimpt eine Produktserie für den europäischen Markt hergestellt. Die Produkte sollen ein Gefühl für den
afrikanischen Kontinent vermitteln. Zu der Produktserie gehören
die Hängeleuchte Forbidden Fruit, die hier zu sehen ist, und die
Stehleuchte Last Fruit Standing.
For their final project, Glimpt from Sweden worked in South Africa.
Together with South Africa’s centre of woodworking excellence,
Furntech, and the ceramicists at The Potters Workshop in Cape
Town, they made a series of products for the European market. They
sought to give a feeling of Africa. The resulting products include the
pendant lamp Forbidden Fruit, which is shown here, and the floor
lamp Last Fruit Standing.

Folding Armchair
Der Folding Armchair ist zum Einsatz an Orten gedacht, an denen
wir entspannen. Ich habe einen Mechanismus entwickelt, der
höchste Geschmeidigkeit sowie eine einfache Handhabung bietet
und sehr wenig wiegt. Bei diesem Projekt habe ich besonders viel
mit Modellen gearbeitet, weil der Sessel vor allem eines erfüllen
sollte: Er sollte bequem sein. Die abgerundeten Arm- und Rückenlehnen sind wichtige Charakteristika des Sessels und bilden einen
Kontrast zu der kantigen Aluminiumkonstruktion.
The Folding Armchair is intended for recreational areas. I worked on
a mechanism that provides maximum pliability, easy handling and a
low weight. I developed this project especially with models, because
the quality I wanted this armchair to have most was comfort. The
rounded armrests and backrest are significant parts of the identity
of the chair, and contrast with the angular aluminium structure.

Trapezium
Aufbau und Lichtwirkung der Pendelleuchte sind ebenso einfach
wie überraschend. Sie besteht aus zwei symmetrisch gekanteten
Blechschalen, die im Grundriss an ein Trapezblech erinnern. Der
begrenzte seitliche Lichtaustritt zwischen den Blechen setzt Lichtakzente im Raum und ist gleichzeitig charakteristisches Merkmal
von Trapezium. Durch verschiedene Oberflächen und Größen ist
die Leuchte vielseitig einsetzbar.
The structure and effect of this pendant lamp are as simple as they
are surprising. It consists of two symmetrically canted sheet-metal
basins whose shape calls to mind a trapezoidal sheet. The limited
lateral emission of light between the sheets creates lighting accents
in the space and at the same time is a characteristic feature of
Trapezium. The luminaire can be used in numerous situations owing
to its different surfaces and sizes.

Brigitte ist eine Hütte aus kleinen, zusammengenähten Holzziegeln.
Die Konstruktion lehnt sich an eine alte Schweizer Technik an, bei
der für Holzdächer und Fassaden mehrere Holzschichten übereinander gelegt werden. Während der gesamten Arbeit war es mein
Bestreben, ein „offenes“ Objekt zu realisieren, das sich der Betrachter aneignen kann, worin er das Gewünschte erkennt und dem er
die gesuchte Rolle überträgt.
Brigitte is a hut made of small wooden blocks sewn together. The
construction is based on an old Swiss technique whereby several
layers of wood are laid one on top of the other to form building
roofs and façades. That is what I sought to achieve during the entire
project, to realise an “open” object that the observer can take
possession of, in which he sees what he wishes for and to which he
transfers the role he is looking for.

Pylône
Pylône ist ein Projekt, das aus der Bewunderung der Ästhetik von
Hochspannungsmasten heraus entstanden ist. Die Interpretation dieser Konstruktionen brachte eine Serie von Beistelltischen
hervor, deren Tischplatten mit getönten Glasplatten bedeckt sind,
so dass die Strukturen der Konstruktion offengelegt werden.
Sie sind in quadratische Metallprofile gefasst, geschweißt und
pulverbeschichtet.
Pylône is a project born out of an admiration for the aesthetics of
electric towers. The interpretation of these constructions became
a series of side tables on which tinted glass trays rest, enabling
assembled structures to appear. They are made out of squared
metal profiles, welded and powder coated.

Tension bentwood chair
Der Formholzstuhl Tension wurde mit einem Holzverarbeitungsverfahren hergestellt, bei dem das Holz dank seiner natürlichen
Spannkraft ohne den Einsatz von Dampf, Guss- oder Pressverfahren
gebogen wird. Die filigranen und gleichzeitig stabilen Stuhlbeine
erinnern an Astgabeln und erfüllen so neben ihrer konstruktiven
auch eine ästehtische Funktion. Der Formholzstuhl Tension ist eine
experimentelle Arbeit.
The Tension bentwood chair is manufactured using a wood processing technique where the wood is bent using its natural tension rather
than steaming, moulding or pressing. Looking like crotches, the
filigree and solid legs of the chair fulfil a constructive and aesthetic
function. The tension bentwood chair is an experimental work.

Behälter entsteht die Hängeleuchte vaiss.eau. Ein mundgeblasener,
doppelwandiger Glaskörper, welcher in einer einzigen Form sowohl
Leuchtenschirm, Reflektor und Lichtraum vereint. Im Inneren
des Glasbehälters windet sich das Kabel, zeigen sich technische
Details: das Bild changiert zwischen Leuchte und technischer
Glasapparatur. Ein gläserner Lichtbehälter – ein leuchtendes Gefäß.
The vaiss.eau pendant lamp borrows from the forms of historical
glass bottles and receptacles. It has a hand-blown double-walled
glass body, which combines in a single form lampshade, reflector
and illuminated space. The cable is coiled inside the glass body and
technical details are visible; the image alternates between luminaire
and technical glass apparatus. A glass container of light –
a luminous vessel.

Aus eins mach zwei. Wenn die Sitzgelegenheiten knapp werden, z. B.
bei einer Party zu Hause, und nicht genügend Platz für alle Gäste
vorhanden ist, können Sie nun Ihren Hocker teilen, statt sich zu
zweit auf einen Hocker zu zwängen. Es gibt ihn als Paar: ein weiblicher und ein männlicher Hocker verschmelzen zu einem Ganzen.
Zwei verschiedene Löcher auf der Sitzfläche erlauben es, sie ganz

This is a stool that can be divided into two stools. Where seating is

Floo
Floo ist eine Leuchte, die das Licht sowohl nach unten als auch
nach oben reflektiert, ohne den störenden Schattenwurf eines
mittig angebrachten Kabels. Denn anders als andere Leuchten wird
Floo auf der Seite aufgehängt. Aufgrund der Schwerkraft hängt etwas, das seitlich aufgehängt ist, nicht gerade; das ist der Grund für
die kegelförmige Form von Floo. So balanciert sich die Leuchte von
alleine aus und schwebt aufrecht in der Luft, was ihrer Erscheinung
Rätselhaftes verleiht.
The pandant lamp Floo reflects the light downwards and upwards
without a shading of a central cable. Unlike other lamps, Floo is hung
on the side. Gravity dictates that when something is hung on its side
it will not hang straight; this fact is the reason for Floo’s conical shape.
Floo is self-balancing and floats upright in the air, creating an
enigmatic appearance.

Beaugars
Das Möbel Beaugars bietet Raum, um Gegenstände aufzubewahren,
abzulegen, abzustellen oder aufzuhängen. Mit nur einem Handgriff
passt es sich unterschiedlichen Raumsituationen und Gegenständen
leichtfüßig an. Seine Wandlungsfähigkeit – zentrales Merkmal von
Beaugars – ergibt sich aus dem Prinzip der um 360° rotierenden
Bögen. Beaugars kann dementsprechend kompakt oder raumgreifend
aufgestellt werden und bietet eine Bühne für die Objekte, die an
ihm aufbewahrt werden.
Beaugars offers plenty of space for storing or hanging objects. It can
be adapted to various interiors and objects in one quick and simple

PLYTUBE STOOL
PLYTUBE ist ein neues industrielles Fertigungsverfahren für
Holzröhren. Das sich dahinter verbergende Prinzip ähnelt dem
der Pappröhren-Herstellung. Es unterscheidet sich lediglich im
anschließenden Härtungsprozess. In Präzisionsarbeit werden sehr
leichte, stabile und langlebige Röhren hergestellt, deren Material
die Eigenschaft von Sperrholz hat. Der stabile Hocker in Originalgröße wiegt gerade einmal 820 g.
PLYTUBE is a new type of industrial wooden tubing. It uses the
similar principle as that for making paper tubes, but with additional
processing to harden the wooden tube. The production process
requires just a minimal material input. In the process that is very
accurate, tubes are created, which are very light, strong, durable
and have the properties of plywood. Thus the full-size, strong stool
weighs only 820 g.

SERPENTINE ist ein Stuhl, der das ganze Jahr über im Außenbereich stehen kann. Die feingliedrige Metallstruktur erinnert an die
Pflanzenwelt im Winter. Kehrt der Sommer zurück, wird der Stuhl
in lange, farbenfrohe Kissen gehüllt, die mit den Rücken- und Armlehnen verwoben werden. Der Metallrahmen ist dabei noch immer
an der einen oder anderen Stelle sichtbar; Sie werden diesen aber
nie zu spüren bekommen. Durch das Weben entstehen Reliefe im
Textil, die für einen hohen Sitzkomfort sorgen.
SERPENTINE is a chair designed to stay outside all year long. The
delicate metallic structure recalls winter vegetation. When summer
returns, it is dressed in long, coloured cushions weaving through the
backrest and armrests. The metal frame can still be glimpsed, but
your body will never feel it. The braiding creates a raised textile relief
inviting you to sit comfortably.

LIGHT FOREST ist ein neues Deckenleuchtensystem, dessen Einsatzmöglichkeiten endlos sind. Das System besteht aus verschiedenen Teilen, die an der Decke verbunden werden können. Wie
eine wuchernde Pflanze nimmt das Beleuchtungssystem Schritt
für Schritt die gesamte Decke ein. Man kann einen oder mehrere
Lichtstrahlen ganz gezielt so einstellen, wie man es wünscht. Mit
diesen Leuchten lassen sich durch die Anpassung an Hindernisse
und Höhenunterschiede wunderschöne Lichteffekte kreieren.
LIGHT FOREST is a new system for ceiling lights. The possibilities
are endless. The system consists of different parts, which can be
connected on the ceiling. The lighting system gradually takes over
the ceiling like an overgrowing plant. You can direct one or more
beams to shine exactly where you want them. Obstacles and height
differences give beautiful effects with these lights.

Inspiriert von spektakulären Lichtreflexen und -strahlen konzentriert sich das Design vor allem auf die Funktion der Leuchte mit

Inspired by spectacular reflections and rays of light, the design is
heavily oriented on function with a strong graphical presence. The
half mirrored globe bulb reflects all the light down and onto the
table surface while reflecting the light captured in the polished
hemisphere upward, where the warmth of the textured yellow post
is added to the ceiling and surroundings.

Eine Serie von Hockern, bei denen Holz und Kunststoff kombiniert
werden. Der Kunststoff wird vakuumgeformt und kann so das Holz
umschließen. Einer der Nachteile des Vakuumformens ist das Entstehen von so genannten Brücken sowie die Problematik der mangelnden Konturgenauigkeit. Innerhalb dieser Einschränkungen habe
ich eine Ästhetik geschaffen, die diese Nachteile nutzt und den
Zufall als Formensprache einsetzt. Darüber hinaus entsteht eine
stabile Struktur.
A series of stools that combine wood and plastic, vacuum-formed in
such a way that one “confines” the other within it. One of the primary
disadvantages of vacuum-forming technology is the creation of so
called “bridges”. Another is the confinement of parts with insufficient
contour tolerances. Within these limitations, I created an aesthetic
that uses these confinements and some element of chance as a formal
language and, moreover, structurally reinforces the object.

Rubber Table
Der Rubber Table ist ein eigensinniger Zeitgenosse. Seine Inspirationsquelle ist die Saugglocke aus dem Haushalt. Er greift die Ästhetik
des Ausgussreinigers auf und setzt sie in einen neuen Kontext. Der
Pömpel, Pümpel oder Klostampfer wird zum Tischbein; eine neue
Sichtweise auf den ambivalenten Gegenstand. Es entsteht ein Beistelltisch aus Zellkautschuk, welcher die Farbe und die Materialität
der Gummiglocke auf den gesamten Tisch überträgt.
Rubber Table is a headstrong companion. It was inspired by the
household plunger. It adopts the aesthetics of the drain cleaner and
puts them in a new context. The plunger or plumber’s helper becomes the table leg; a new way of seeing the ambivalent object. The
final product: a side table made of rubber sponge, which transmits
the colour and materiality of the plunger to the entire table.

The leg components become fixed to the tabletop when they are
pushed outwards by a spreader. This stabilizes the table. This
construction enables the table to be assembled and disassembled

Shrink Collection - Bookshelf
Die Möbelserie Shrink wurde mit Hilfe von Schrumpfschläuchen
konstruiert, die normalerweise zum Schutz von Stromkabeln verwendet werden. Mit Heißluft erhitzt, schrumpft der Durchmesser
der Schläuche, die durch das anschließende Erkalten wesentlich
härter werden als zuvor. Diese Eigenschaft ermöglicht den Einsatz
der Schläuche für andere Funktionen – z. B. zum Verbinden von
Möbelteilen. Nur mit Hilfe von heißer Luft und ohne den Einsatz
von Nägeln und Schrauben wird so die Konstruktion von Möbeln
ermöglicht.
Shrink, a series of furniture is designed using heat shrinkable tubing,
which are originally developed for protecting cables. Being heated
with hot air the tubes shrink in diameter and while cooling afterwards
they become much stronger. These properties render possible to use
the tubes for new functions, e.g. for joining furniture. By using hot air,
it is feasible to construct furniture without using any screws or nails.

in Entwicklungsländern und dem europäischen Einzelhandel aufzubauen. Unseen Products sorgt dafür,
dass unbemerkte oder schwer zu findende Produkte zu
wettbewerbsfähigen Preisen zugänglich werden.
Die Zielsetzungen von Unseen Products sind zweierlei:
Beitragen zur wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung kleiner
Hersteller in Entwicklungsländern.
Einführen exklusiver Designprodukte aus Entwicklungsländern in Mainstream-Einzelhandelsmärkten.
Die Hersteller von Unseen Products arbeiten, um im
Laufe der Jahre ihre Umwelt und Arbeitsbedingungen
zu verbessern. Hersteller, die diese Verbesserung nicht
erzielen wollen, oder die bewusst Umweltverschmutzung, Ausbeutung oder Skrupellosigkeit betreiben,

The producers of Unseen Products are working to
improve their environmental and labor circumstances
over a period of years. Producers who are not prepared
to realize improvement or who are consciously polluting, exploitative or unethical, are be excluded.
Unseen Products purchases its goods from producers from countries with an average GNP lower than
$10,000 a year and that are published on the list of
“United Nations Developing Countries”.
Annual surplus profits above 10 % of the turnover are
re-invested in the process to increase development and
sustainability of the producers.

_Readymade
Nach der Vorgabe einen Messestand zu dem übergeordneten Thema ,,readymade“ zu schaffen, suchten wir nach
einem Produkt, dass unseren Fachbereich in irgendeiner Form
widerspiegelt. Wir entschieden uns für den Zollstock. Er ist
DAS Handwerkszeug des Architekten und gleichzeitig auch
Verbindungsglied zwischen Architekten und Handwerker. Für
den Entwurf werden mehrere hundert zu Sechsecken geklappte
Zollstöcke zu einer raumhohen, amorphen Form aneinandergefügt, die als Ausstellungsfläche dient.
_Readymade
Following the subject “readymade” for the design of our exhibition stand, we were looking for a product, that reflects our faculty in one way or another. We decided to take the folding metre
stick. It is THE tool of the architect and at the same time the link
between the architect and the craftsman. For the design several
hundreds of metre sticks folded to hexagons create a ceilinghigh, amorphous form, that serves as an exhibition space.

Nachhaltigkeit und Ausstellungsgestaltung sind schwer zu
vereinbarende Themenkomplexe. Die Konzeption des Standes
der Detmolder Schule für Architektur und Innenarchitektur
beschäftigt sich mit der Thematik Recycling. Das Projekt
behandelt die Wiederverwertung und Umgestaltung der im
letzten Jahr gezeigten Ausstellung. Das Vergangene wird
angedeutet, bleibt in Erinnerung. Alle damals verwendeten
Materialien finden in einer neuen Komposition einen neuen
Platz – eine funktionale Installation entsteht.
re-make/re-model
Sustainability and exhibition design are hard to combine.
The concept of this year’s stand of the Detmold School of
Architecture and Interior Design is recycling and remodelling
last year’s exhibition. All the old materials find its place in a new
assembly. The bygone is still implied and stays in the memory –
a functional installation arises.

Der Messestand präsentiert den Zwischenstand des Projekts
„Wohn-Vision-2020“. Dabei geht es um Konzepte für zukunftsweisende, nachhaltige Einrichtungen, die weniger Ressourcen
verbrauchen. Der Stand greift das Bild der Recyclingbörsen auf:
Dort häufen sich mehrfach Dinge der gleichen Art an.
Sie werden gesammelt, sortiert und gestapelt. Der Messestand
ist wie ein Lager aufgebaut. Zwischen diesen Stapeln befinden
sich die neu gewonnen zukunftsweisenden Einrichtungsobjekte.
The stand presents intermediate results of the project
“Wohn-Vision-2020” (visions for living 2020). The project aims
at conceptualising sustainable furnishings that point at the
future and that consume less resources. The stand draws on the
image of recycling facilities: Where large quantities of similar
used materials pile up. They are collected, sorted and stored.
The stand reminds of a warehouse. Amongst these piles the
newly designed future-oriented furnishings are arranged.

Der Messestand der Folkwang Universität der Künste beruht

KISD – Köln International School of
Design
In diesem Jahr präsentiert sich die Köln International School of
Design (KISD) der Fachhochschule Köln zum ersten Mal auf der
imm cologne.
Die Studierenden veranschaulichen auf Ihrem Stand die
vielfältigen Aspekte des interdisziplinären, projektorientierten
Studiums an der KISD. Die Präsentationsform spiegelt den
ganzheitlichen Ansatz wider, der auf der Kooperation innerhalb
eines großen Netzwerks basiert – der Zusammenarbeit mit
international renommierten Hochschulen, Designern und
Partnern aus Wirtschaft und Forschung.
For the first time the Köln International School of Design (KISD)
of the University of Applied Sciences Cologne takes part at
imm cologne.
Students will demonstrate the many aspects of interdisciplinary,
project-oriented studies at the KISD. The form of presentation
reflects the holistic approach based on cooperation within a
large network – cooperation with international renowned universities, designers and partners from industry and research.

MATERIAL ALS DESIGN-IMPULS – unter diesem Titel veranstaltete der Studiengang Innenarchitektur der Fachhochschule
Mainz ein spannendes Kooperationsprojekt mit mehreren
Industriepartnern. Es ging dabei um die experimentelle und
handwerkliche Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werkstoff Beton.
Entstanden ist eine Reihe von innovativen Produkten im Spannungsfeld zwischen Objekt und Raum, die im Rahmen der
imm cologne 2011 erstmals zu sehen sein wird.
MATERIAL AS DESIGN-IMPULS –the theme of an exciting project
initiated by the Interior Architecture department of the University of Applied Sciences Mainz in collaboration with a number of
industry partners.
The design process was entirely driven by the material properties and manufacturing processes of CONCRETE. As a result,
students developed a range of products highlighting the tension
between object and space. These will be displayed for the first
time at the imm cologne 2011.

VOMO started an OPEN workshop in September 2010
using a universal galvanized steel clamp
as a common assembling element for individual designers
allowing flexible constructions and numerous hybrids.

Products are to be set in public. They have to be developed,
designed and prototyped. And before they will be produced,
sold and used, we will put them on stage. They wait for being
admired, applauded, discussed. – Will the run of these things
go on, will they be praised to the skies or greeted with smiles?

STRUCTURES IN EXHIBITION
Unsere Präsentation besteht in diesem Jahr aus einer raumgreifenden Struktur, die das Verhältnis zwischen den komplementären Themen „Raum“ und „Exponat“ auslotet. Ihre komplexen
Verbindungen verweisen auf die vielschichtigen Themengebiete
der HfG Produktgestaltung. Der Ausstellungsraum selbst wird
zum zentralen Exponat, Modellpräsentationen von ersten
Vorstudien bis zum Mockup illustrieren den Spannungsbogen
des Entwurfsprozesses.
This year our presentation consists of a room-filling structure
that probes the relationship between the complementary topics
“space” and “exhibit”. The complex links between them are
an indication of the multi-layered themes HfG Product Design
addresses. The exhibition space itself becomes the main exhibit,
while the presentation of models of initial preliminary studies to
mock-ups illustrate the scope of the design process.

Oldenburg
Die Fachschule für das Handwerk ist seit 60 Jahren in der Ausund Weiterbildung von Raumausstattern tätig. Auszubildende
erhalten während ihrer betrieblichen Ausbildung zusätzliche
fachliche und praktische Weiterbildung. Des Weiteren werden
Raumausstattergesellinnen und -gesellen auf die Prüfung
zum/r Raumausstattermeister/in und zum/r Gestaltungsberater/in vorbereitet. Berufs- und fachübergreifende Fortbildungen ergänzen das Bildungsangebot der Fachschule für das
Handwerk e. V.
The Fachschule für das Handwerk e. V. is involved in education
and training of interior designers since 60 years. Trainees receive
additional technical and practical training during their apprenticeship. Furthermore, we prepare our students for the exam
for master of interior designer and advisor of interior design.
Interprofessional and interdisciplinary trainings complete the
courses offered by the Fachschule für das Handwerk e. V.,
for example freehand drawing, intensive courses for
upholster or decoration and much more.

ArtFuture Design School
St. Petersburg, Russland
ArtFuture ist die moderne Schule für die Vorbereitung von
Spezialisten im Bereich des Interieur-, Landschafts-, Graphikund des Industriedesigns. In diesem Jahr stellt die Abteilung
für Interieur und Möbel in Zusammenarbeit mit Industrieunternehmen ihre Ergebnisse im Projekt „Linie“ (Linija) vor. Dabei
werden Prototypen aus Stahlcord und Metallnetz vorgestellt.
Dieses Projekt wurde mit Hilfe von Produkten der Schwerindustrie sowie Textil- und Naturfasern ausgeführt.
ArtFuture is a modern school providing training on interior,
landscape, graphic, fashion & industrial design. This year
Interior & Furniture Department shows the results of the project
“Line” in collaboration with industrial enterprises, presented by
prototypes of metal cord and meshes. The experimental project
was fulfilled using by-products of heavy industries accompanied
by textile & natural fibers.

üblichen Wahrnehmung der Designprobleme.
Studenten des Produktdesigns erwägen:
PLUS als ein Bewusstsein der verborgenen Last, mit welcher
jedes Produkt die Umgebung belastet.
PLUS als Verständnis, das der Raum = Wert.
PLUS als absichtlich unfertiges Design. PLUS als ein Spiel.
Entwerfer schreibt den Code des Spiels in den Gegenstand ein.
PLUS als Entmystifizierung des Designgegenstands. Keine
Eitelkeit des Designers. Ziel ist der Nutzen, nicht der Profit.
Product plus project is exploring the area beyond usual
perception of the design problems.
Students of product design where reflecting:
PLUS as an awareness of hidden burden
that every product casts in the environment.
PLUS as understanding that space = value.
PLUS as intentionally unfinished design. PLUS as a play.
Designer is inscribing the code of the play into the object.
PLUS as demystification of design object.

FACHHOCHSCHULE TRIER
Nach mehreren Jahren Beteiligung durch Rauminstallationen
werden 2011 Studienprojekte präsentiert. Die konzeptionelle
Auseinandersetzung mit der Aufgabenstellung Möbel-Inszenierung und Möbel-Ausstellung wird thematisiert und, darüber
hinaus, weitergehende Fragen aufgeworfen:
Was geschieht, wenn wir die primäre Funktion durch eine
zweite, verdeckte Funktion, der des Ausstellens, ersetzen?
Bleibt ein Stuhl ein Stuhl, wenn er von der Primärfunktion des
Darauf-Sitzens entkoppelt wird? Wie sieht eine Ausstellung von
Möbeln mit Möbeln aus?
After several years of participation with spatial installations we
will present student projects at the imm cologne 2011. The conceptual discussion of the task ‚staging furniture’ and ‚exhibiting
of furniture’ will be highlighted and, moreover, raises further
questions:
What happens, if we replace the primary function by a second,
hidden function: Exhibiting? Is a chair a chair, if it is decoupled
from the primary function of sitting? An exhibition of furniture
with furniture: What does this mean and look like?

Die raumgreifende Inszenierung „Haltung zeigen“ entstand im
Bachelorstudiengang Innenarchitektur und zeigt eine Facette
des breit aufgestellten Lehrangebotes.
Mit dem Schwerpunkt „Conceptual Design“ wird der Masterstudiengang Innenarchitektur ab dem WS 2011 eine weitere
Plattform für die künstlerisch-wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit Raumkonzepten an der Hochschule RheinMain im
Fachbereich „Design Informatik Medien“ bieten.
The expansive staging production, named „Haltung zeigen“
(“Demonstrating attitude”), was developed in the BachelorDegree Interior-Architectural-Design and shows one facet of the
diversified range of teaching.
“Conceptual Design” is going to be the centre of Master-Degree,
which will start in WS 2011, offering a further platform for a
creative and artistic examination of room concepts in faculty
“Design Informatik Medien” (“Design Computer Science Media”)
at the RheinMain University of Applied Science.

DIA tour
DIA = Design, Innenarchitektur, Architektur und damit der Titel
der alljährlichen Jahresausstellung der Fakultät Gestaltung der
Hochschule Wismar. Die besten Arbeiten der letzten DIA gehen
nun auf Tour. Im Sommer 2010 prämiert und ausgezeichnet
von einer hochkarätigen Jury, der Sir Peter Cook und ein
Ver treter des BDB (Bund Deutscher Baumeister) beiwohnte,
steht die Crème de la Crème aus Wismar nun in Köln.

DIA = Design, Interior Design, Architecture and the title of the
annual exhibition of the Faculty of Architecture and Design
Wismar. Exclusive works nominated by a high-carat jury and the
best results of the last DIA will be represented and go now on
tour. Sir Peter Cook and a representative from the German BDB
(Federation of German Master Builder) were last summer part of
the jury. Now the Crème de la Crème from Wismar is in Cologne.
