Etwa 17 km östlich vom Stadtzentrum gelegen, verfügt der Köln Bonn Airport über eine
hervorragende Anbindung an die Innenstadt – mit dem Auto und mit dem Zug. ICEs, Regional-
Züge und S-Bahnen fahren den Flughafen-Bahnhof in kurzen Abständen an. Nach nur zehn
Minuten steigen Sie vor der beeindruckenden Domkulisse aus.
Zwei weitere internationale Flughäfen sind von Köln aus mit dem Zug in weniger als einer
Stunde zu erreichen: der Flughafen Düsseldorf in 40 Minuten und der Rhein-Main-Flug
hafen in Frankfurt in 55 Minuten. Das Kölner Messegelände in Köln-Deutz hat einen eigenen
ICE-Bahnhof und ist so von den Flughäfen Köln/Bonn, Düsseldorf und Frankfurt direkt und
unkompliziert anzufahren.
Über 260 Millionen Fahrgäste jährlich wissen es zu schätzen: Ein dichtes Straßenbahn-, Busund U-Bahn-Netz überzieht Köln. Doch auch zu Fuß lässt sich die Rheinmetropole erkunden:
Messe, City, Altstadt, die wichtigsten Museen und viele Veranstaltungsorte liegen im fußläufigen Umkreis von Dom und Kölner Hauptbahnhof. Ob Sie vom Hotel zum Kulturtrip, zum
Geschäftsessen oder zum Konzert unterwegs sind: Stadtluft schnuppern ist immer inklusive!
Auf dem Rhein bestimmen Personenfähren, Lastkähne, Ruderboote und Ausflugsdampfer
das Bild. Mit fünf Rheinhäfen verfügt Köln über den zweitgrößten Binnenhafen Europas. Acht
markante Rheinbrücken überspannen den Fluss. Der Dom als altehrwürdiges Wahrzeichen
hat inzwischen hochmoderne Konkurrenz bekommen: die futuristischen Kranhäuser im
urbanen Zentrum Rheinauhafen. Auf den Promenaden entlang von „Vater Rhein“ flanieren die Ausflügler oder spielen Kinder. Die Flusswiesen auf der rechten Rheinseite und die
Rheinauen sind Tummelplatz für Fußballspieler und Spaziergänger.
Der Kölner Hauptbahnhof ist einer der wichtigsten kontinentalen Bahnknotenpunkte. Von
hier aus fahren Züge in alle große deutsche und europäische Städte und Ballungsräume.
Mehrere Hochgeschwindigkeitsstrecken, zum Beispiel Köln-Brüssel-Paris-London oder KölnFrankfurt-Stuttgart, bringen Zugreisende in wenigen Stunden zu ihrem Reiseziel – mit ICE,
Thalys und Eurostar. Von Köln aus fährt der weinrote Thalys in nur 3:15 Stunden nach Paris
und in 1:47 Stunden nach Brüssel. Amsterdam erreicht man mit dem ICE auf direktem Weg
in 2:36 Stunden.

Cologne Bonn Airport is located about 17 km east of the city centre and has a great
connection to get travellers there fast – by car or by train. ICE, regional and suburban trains make regu
lar stops at the airport train station. They take you to amazing Cologne Cathedral in just 10 minutes.
It is also possible to take the train from Cologne to two other important international airports in
less than an hour. Düsseldorf Airport is just 40 minutes away and Frankfurt am Main Airport is
a 55-minute trip. There is a separate ICE train station at the Koelnmesse exhibition grounds. As
a result, travellers arriving at Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt am Main Airports have a
convenient and direct train ride to the trade fair site.
Cologne has an extensive network of trams, buses and underground trains appreciated by 260
million passengers each year. The metropolis on the Rhine can also be explored very well on foot.
The trade fair grounds, city centre, old town, most important museums and many event locations
are within walking distance of Cologne Cathedral and the Cologne Main Station. Whether you’re
leaving your hotel for a cultural excursion, business dinner or concert – be sure to take in the vibrant
atmosphere of this great city!
The Rhine River is dominated by passenger ferries, barges, rowboats and pleasure boats. Cologne
is Europe’s second-largest inner harbour, with five ports on the Rhine and eight stunning bridges
spanning the river. Cologne’s time-honoured symbol, the cathedral, now has high-tech competi
tion: the prominent crane buildings in the new Rheinauhafen district. On Sunday mornings, the
promenades on “Father Rhine” are full of children playing and people leisurely strolling to their ferries
for day excursions. The lawns and parks on the right side of the river are the stomping ground for
football players and walkers.
The Cologne Main Station is one of the most important railway centres on the continent. Trains
travel from Cologne to all major cities and urban centres in Germany and the rest of Europe. Several
high-speed connections, such as Cologne-Brussels-Paris-London or Cologne-Frankfurt-Stuttgart,
take travellers to their destinations in just a few hours – on the ICE, Thalys and Eurostar trains. The

Koelnmesse. The path takes visitors over a bridge spanning the Rhine, where they enjoy a breathtaking

nections to important German and European road and rail networks. Most event locations in Cologne

Unter dem Motto „Deutschland auf Eis“ ist die Kölner LANXESS arena Spielstätte für die Eishockey
WM 2010. In der 76 m hohen Multifunktionshalle jubeln bis zu 20.000 Zuschauer auch
Musikbands, Weltorchestern oder Showmastern zu. Im RheinEnergieStadion, das bis zu
50.000 Zuschauer aufnimmt, kämpfen die deutschen Fußballfrauen dieses Jahr im Finale um
den DFB-Pokal. Doch auch die Heimspiele des Kölner Fußballvereins „1. FC Köln“ reißen die
Fans regelmäßig zu Begeisterungsstürmen hin. Konzerte, American-Football-Spiele sowie
weitere Großveranstaltungen haben ebenfalls ihren festen Platz im RheinEnergieStadion,
aber auch Tagungen sind hier möglich.

will compete for the championship at the DFB Cup in RheinEnergieStadion, which holds up to

The internationally renowned German Aerospace Center (DLR), based in Cologne, has its sights set
high. Founded in 1907, it has been Germany’s research centre for aerospace, energy and transpor
tation for over 100 years. The DLR is involved in a wide variety of areas, including the development
of environmentally conscious technologies, the search for extraterrestrial life, the creation of new
communication and security solutions as well as research on the solar system. The DLR recently
received millions of euros from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to research ceramic materials
and thermal storage technologies in a new centre of excellence (“CeraStorE”).
The Odysseum in Cologne’s Kalk neighbourhood offers “edutainment” to visitors of all ages. This gi
ant, innovative facility, which some might describe as a combined science theme park and research
centre, is setting new standards. People are invited to touch, shape and try their way through the
seven different theme exhibitions spread out over the huge 5,500 m² space. At over 200 interactive
stations, visitors can take their own personal educational journey from the beginnings of mankind
to the future. The Odysseum also has space to organise special events.

Cologne is a city of churches. There are twelve large Romanic churches located within the area of
town once defined by the mediaeval city wall. Cologne city guides share many of their exciting stories.

which has its own terrace. The “Rhine terraces”, as they might be called in English, offer a unique and panoramic view

The beer garden, which is situated on the lower terrace above the banks of the Rhine, has 1,000 seats. Cologne’s
