INTRODUCTION
Today’s job market is growing increasing competitive and with the recent downturn in
the economy it is only going to get worse. What you need is a way to make sure that
your resume gets both the recognition and distribution it deserves. We all know that it’s
a numbers game. You have to get your resume in front of recruiters and hiring
managers in order to have any chance of getting an interview. In the Internet/Web 2.0
world this simple task is more difficult now because there are so many “Screeners” in
the way of getting to the real Decision-Makers.
This eBook will explain how to get your resume out in the cyberspace so that recruiters
as well as corporate Decision-Makers can find it. It is intended to be used in
conjunction with our other eBooks; Resume Writing 2.0 and Don’t Interview…
Audition, in order to make sure that once you get discovered you are prepared to put
your best foot forward because you only get one chance to make that best first
impression.
Whether the job market is strong or weak, there is always competition when seeking a
new employment opportunity. You have to find a way to separate yourself from the
crowd. This requires you to be prepared to use every avenue available to obtain the
competitive advantage that will allow your resume to be that “needle in the haystack”
that every recruiter or hiring manager is looking to uncover.
As a Recruiter, I spend my days searching my own resume database, on-line resume
databases, networking on social networks, placing job ads and reviewing resumes sent
to me by resume distribution services, all in the hopes of finding the perfect candidate
for my client. All of these sources provide me with both good resumes and some I wish
I had never seen. None-the-less, it is your ability to use these services effectively that
will enable your resume to get in the right hands and land you that ever-elusive
interview.
This eBook will provide you with the insight and courage to PowerUp your resume on
the Internet and help you to land that perfect career opportunity.

Chapter One – Resume Distribution Services
WHAT I KNOW TO BE TRUE…
There is no loyalty to Employees or Employers. You should have your resume on
the market at all times and it must be a living document that is content rich. Don’t be
afraid to let the world know that you are always looking for a great opportunity!
How Do They Work
Resume distribution services allow you to upload a copy of your resume into their
database and then they email your resume to job recruiters and job boards for you.
Resume distribution services have only been around a few years but have become very
popular due to their convenience and ease of use. By uploading your resume to them
you can reach thousands of Recruiters and potential Employers in a matter of minutes.
These Resume Distribution Services keep you from having to manually enter your
personal information repeatedly on job boards and with recruiting services.
You might have written your resume yourself, or maybe you hired a resume writing
service or maybe you even bought our Resume Writing 2.0 eBook. Most likely it took
you lots of time, or at least cost you some cash. Regardless, you have made a
considerable investment in your resume, and as a result you will want to make sure you
distribute it effectively.
“Resume Blasting” is a term used when Resume Distribution Services send a resume
out to hundreds or thousands of Recruiters and Employers all at once, usually without
using any discretion as to who gets the resumes. The good news is that your resume
reaches hundreds or thousands of Employers and Recruiters simultaneously and you
spend less time than you would with a conventional job search. If you are a recent
graduate or are looking for any job you can get, Resume Blasting will cover all of your
bases.
The disadvantages to this type of service includes; you have to pay for this service, you
will likely have little or no choice in who gets your resume and you may not be a good
match for many of the Recruiters and Employers who receive your resume.
PowerUp Your Resume on the Internet!

www.cubemanagement.com
Many Resume Distribution Services also offer targeted distribution of your resume.
Unlike Resume Blasting services, you control who gets your resume. For instance, you
can limit distribution to a specific location or industry; you can also choose to send your
resume only to Recruiters and/or Employers who hire for a certain type of position or
level of salary. Of course, just like the Resume Blasting Service, targeted resume
distribution is a service you will have to pay for. While it may cost a little bit more, it is
well worth it to narrow your search to just those Employers and/or Recruiters you are
interested in reaching. You will increase your chances of landing a specific type of
position with a certain pay range.
Why Should I Use Them
Resume Distribution Services do charge a fee for their services but most people find
that the fee is well worth it for the time and effort it saves them. The resume distribution
method you decide upon will ultimately depend on what suits your needs the best. If
you prefer doing your own legwork, obviously you will prefer searching for jobs and
posting your resume yourself. If, on the other hand, you don’t have (or don’t want to
spend) the time, a Resume Distribution Service can do it for you.
From a Recruiter's perspective, we receive resumes from many resume distribution
services every day. Many of the better services network Candidates strictly with
Recruiters and avoid sending them to Employers directly. This enables the Recruiters
to do their job and match the "great" candidates with open vacancies in the market.
There is a caveat though...If you are not a qualified sales person with at least 1-2 years
of solid legitimate sales experience; I wouldn't recommend using these services.
From a leading Medical Sales Recruiter's perspective, “I have placed dozens of
Candidates who have used these services so I know they work. Multiply that by
thousands of sales recruiting firms and you get the point. These services work because
Sales Recruiters have relationships with the hiring managers and they can sell your
skills. Sales Recruiters are your best chance at being introduced to the hiring sales
Manager or Decision-Maker and depending on their relationship with the Client, they will
be able to market you differently than if you just applied to directly to the corporate HR
Department.”
There are also other preferences to consider. Some people like the convenience of
email and the Internet, especially when searching for a job. Others prefer to use more
traditional methods, such as the newspaper, Recruiters, US Postal Service, and
PowerUp Your Resume on the Internet!
-5–
www.cubemanagement.com
telephones. Most of these services will require that your resume and cover letter be
text-based (or scannable), which means that all formatting must be removed.
What Makes Them Different
While Resume Distribution Services all basically do the same thing as we have
discussed there are levels of control that you can purchase in order to determine just
who and what is distributed. Some of the top Resume Distribution Services can post
your resume on all major job sites like Monster, Hotjobs, Careerbuilder, etc. There are
also Resume Distribution Services that only specialize in particular market segments
such as sales or medical, for example. Some sites allow you to create a password and
monitor your activity on-line others allow you to follow up directly with those you have
sent your resume to.
Whether you stay traditional or go virtual, and whether you prefer to search for your own
jobs or pay a Resume Distribution Service to do the grunt work for you, just make sure
that the resume distribution method you choose is the right one for you. Medical Sales
Resume Distribution Services or Sales Resume Distribution Services or Resume Blast
Services are just another "bullet in your gun" related to networking and finding that
perfect sales opportunity.
Are There Any Guarantees
Today many Resume Distribution Service companies are guaranteeing that you will get
an interview or they will blast your resume out again to a new list of potential Employers
and Recruiters. While this may sound like a good deal initially just make sure that they
are sending it to a new universe of potential Employers and Recruiters and not the
same group they sent it to before.
What you really want to make sure of is that a potential Employer or Recruiter is going
to be able to reach you at your email address and not some email address that runs the
contact back through the distribution service. These “blind email addresses” make it
difficult for Employers and Recruiters to get in touch with you and often keep them from
putting your resume into their database thus eliminating you from consideration without
you even knowing it happened.
As with anything in life, there are no guarantees. You should always make sure that you
fully understand the products and services you are being sold, especially over the
Internet.

Actual Responses from Resume Distribution Service Users*
"I have had the most incredible response with resultant interviews. I am "on my way" to
a new career thanks to XXXXXXX and its exposure. Well worth the small investment
and have passed the website and info on to two of my associates who are looking."
--- Roberta B, Livermore, CA [Executive Assistant]
"I used XXXXXXX and had fantastic results. I have recommended it to several jobhunting friends! Thanks for providing a much-needed service. The results surpassed my
expectations."
--- Carroll M, Roswell, GA [Marketing Communications]
"July of last year I enlisted your services to find employment. The response I received
was not only impressive it was staggering. Less than a month later I started my new
position. This is the most worthwhile service I've seen and I would highly recommend it
to anyone starting out in the job market."
--- Frank V, Berkeley, CA [Vice President of Operations]
"I just wanted to give this type of service 'two thumbs up!' I had excellent responses,
and I received one job offer today. I wish there were two of me, because I was told that I
would be receiving another offer later this week, which I will have to turn down. I believe
it's only been 3 weeks since I sent my resume. ... Thank you so much!"
- Angie B. [Sales Rep]
"Your resume distribution service was very instrumental in getting my job hunting
experience into its proper perspective. I thought it was going to be easy selling myself,
and learned the hard way depending on what I thought I already knew. Until your
service came in and like a true partner, directed and plotted my target. A good batting
average for getting the interviews is a pretty good proof it works!"

Chapter Two – On-Line Job Boards
WHAT I KNOW TO BE TRUE….
While Monster, Careerbuilder and a few other job boards are large and have
millions of resumes in their database, specialty job jobs cannot be over looked when
you are creating a strategy about where to post your resume.
How Do They Work
The first job board was a nonprofit organization launched in August 1992, by Bill Warren
and was called the Online Career Center (OCC). OCC was sold to TMP Worldwide
(now Monster Worldwide) in December 1995 when OCC was renamed Monster.com.
Bill Warren also co-founded another very early job board called E-Span that was started
in his basement as “Adnet”.
Job boards are usually free for job seekers though there are some exceptions mostly in
the realm of upper management and executive jobs. Job ads can usually be found by
browsing or through search on keywords, job type and location. Employers usually pay
a fee to post job ads although exceptions include the upper management job boards
that charge jobseekers. Most job boards also offer employers resume database access
for searching out candidates that match specific criteria.
Job boards are commonly broken down into the following categories:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Free Job Boards - basic services are free for both candidates and jobseekers
Generalist Job Boards - attempts to serve everyone, "all things to all people"
Job Board Networks - companies that build or buy lots of job boards, "domains
are cool"
Matching job boards - focus on profiling of positions and candidates for the right
match, "eHarmony of jobs"
Niche job boards - targets job functions, industries, demographics, and
geography
Recruiting vendor management job boards - helps employers manage
relationships and contracts with third party recruiters, "spend less for recruiting
because it's really just a commodity"
Social networking job boards - professionally oriented social media websites,
"friends are for finding jobs"
PowerUp Your Resume on the Internet!
-8–
www.cubemanagement.com
•
Vertical job search engines - jobs are scraped from employer websites and other
job boards, "all jobs in one place"
Job Boards work on the principal that thousands of Candidates place their resumes into
the Job Boards database and then Recruiters and Employers Search for Candidates
that match their criteria. And in the reverse, Employers post their job openings and
Candidates search for jobs that match their criteria. Sounds like a match made in
heaven – right? Well what this really means is that to be successful as a Candidate to
be found by an Employer and/or Recruiter you have to have the right “Key Words” in
your resume. These “Key Words” must then match what the Employers and/or
Recruiters are searching for.
Typical “Key Words” might include; “a job title”, “a location”, “a university” or “a degree”.
However, these “Key Words” might also include things that you might not expect like;
“names of companies”, or “President’s Club Winner”, or “top producer” or “top sales
representative”, “Northwest Region”, “a medical term” “software languages”, “hardware
platforms”, “CRM systems”, the list is vast and changing every day. In order to be found
you have to include as many content rich “Key Words” as possible. Think of them as
the word or phrase that makes you special, something that makes you stand out from
the rest of the crowd.
When you decide to PowerUp your resume up on a Job Board, you generally lose
control over what happens to it after that. Read their privacy policy very carefully before
you post. Some sites have had complaints in the past about how their customer's data
was used. If you don't like the terms of their agreement, don't post!
If you do decide to list, remember that listings on one job board is generally not going to
reach Employers or Recruiters on any of the others. That means that if you are going to
use one, you should probably use more than one, if you want the best chance of finding
a job - remember this is a numbers game. The extra time is minimal, and may make the
difference for you.

Why Should I Use Them
As a Job Seeker you can waste lots of valuable time posting your resume on any of the
Job Boards out there just waiting to take you resume. However, if you have done your
RESEARCH and understand which Employers you want to work for and in what
industries, you can narrow your options and the amount of time required on this portion
of your career search activities.
There is no single Job Board out there where you can post you resume and wait for the
phone to ring. Each day hundreds of thousands of resumes get posted to Job Boards
where Recruiters and Employers review them and interviews get scheduled based on
these posts. However, your chances of landing the perfect position from simply a single
job post are astronomical. You might as well go buy a lottery ticket now because your
odds of winning are probably better. So you have to be highly selective about where
you place your resume.
Before you start placing your resume on Job Boards, do the research. Find out what
types of Recruiters and Employers subscribe (actually pay) for access to their database.
How many of them are there and will you have any direct access to them?
You also want to make sure that your resume is content rich for the “Key Word” search
terms that Recruiters and Employers will be using to find your resume. If you have not
written your resume with this thought in mind you will be very disappointed in the results
you can achieve on any job board. Having a professionally written resume does not
always mean you have a well-written resume for job board posting. (See our Resume
Writing 2.0 guide) Many resume-writing experts are not tech savvy on the techniques
used by the Job Board’s database search engines to screen and present resumes
based on “Key Word” search terms.
Just about every job seeker will be well served by using the big three general boards
(Careerbuilder, Monster, and HotJobs), two or three niche boards which target your
occupational field, experience level, and/or target your geographic preferences. One
great way of finding good niche boards are to search Google or Yahoo and seeing
which job boards come up first. If you're looking for a sales job in the IT sector, type in
"Sales Jobs IT." If you're looking for engineering jobs, type in "engineering jobs." Also
don’t forget to check Recruiter websites that often allow you to post your resume directly
into their database as well. Finding Recruiters that specialize in you specific target
industries is the fastest way to find unadvertised job openings.
PowerUp Your Resume on the Internet!

www.cubemanagement.com
How Many is Too Many
Once you find the general and niche sites that best fit your interests, go to each of them,
register by posting your resume, apply to all of the advertised jobs which you are
qualified for and which are of interest to you, set up job match agents (sometimes called
alerts) and then go away and don't come back until you receive an emailed alert telling
you that a job of interest to you, has just been posted.
You should spend at most one to two days on the job boards and then at most an hour
a week after that. Too many job seekers get taught up searching the job boards for new
listings or spending hours each day combing through the hundreds of jobs that are not
right for them - hoping to find the job they are seeking. In reality, if you have set up the
Job Board’s Search Agents properly you should not have to search the individual listing
as your “Search Agent” will do the work for you. You may want to spend some time
each week reviewing Recruiter websites since they often do not have the sophisticated
Search Agents like the major job boards.
We have provided you with listings to some major and specialty boards later in the
document to help get you started and decrease the amount of time you have to spend
on this portion of you job search.
Are They Worth Paying For
While most Job Boards allow you to post your resume for free, there are a few specialty
Job Boards for specific trades and upper income executives that charge a fee to list
your resume on their site. In general, these sites may have better-targeted jobs listed
on them or may have tighter relationships with Recruiters or Employers. However, as
with any Internet based service, if you are going to pay a fee you want to make sure that
you understand the site’s competitive advantage over their lesser cost or free
competitors.
Usually if you have to pay a fee to an on-line Job Board you should expect to have
better results and should be looking for some guarantee from the provider that they will
deliver something better than what you can get for free. Ask questions and do your
research, most of the time you get what you pay for!

Chapter Three - Effective On-Line Strategy
What is the Secret
The secret to finding your next career move utilizing the Internet is simple. It hasn’t
changed much over the last ten years. The Internet has only given you more tools to
help you find it. What you have to do is RESEARCH, FOCUS, then COMMUNICATE.
Finding a career is a full time job. It takes real work and if you are diligent you will be
successful.
Let’s start with the RESEARCH process of your Internet job search. Knowing which
Resume Distribution Services and Job Boards will give you the right exposure to the
Employers and Recruiters that are looking for a Candidate with your background and
experience is the starting point for your activity. If your background is a specialty, then
you will need specialty service providers and jobs boards. If your background is more
general then the more general sites will do.
Next, you must use a laser beam FOCUS on the services uncovered in the RESEARCH
process. Determine your budget, get signed up, upload your resume and set your
Search Agents looking for the positions that best fit your background and experience.
Find 10 Recruiting firms and 30 Employers that specialize in filling positions requiring
your background and experience and then begin COMMUNICATING with them. Send
them your resume, check their Job Boards regularly (Bookmark them in your browser),
call them and make sure they have your resume on file.
For recruiting firms, ask for the Recruiter that specializes in your industry. Don’t expect
them to market on your behalf. The days of taking a “most presentable candidate” and
marketing them to employers is all but a memory. Just let them know you are on the
market, would like to hear about any openings they may have that fit your background
and find out how you can apply to their open job requirements.
Your 30 chosen Employers should be the companies that you want to go to work for.
You should have done your RESEARCH to make sure that they have positions that fit
your background and experience. This is where you FOCUS your energy; call their HR
Manager about every three weeks to check for new openings. Remember to be
professional and pleasant. You should not sound desperate just determined. They can
tell the difference!
