In this 2nd app of the series titled “Ansel & Clair: Jurassic Dinosaurs”, you travel back in time to the Jurassic period with friendly travel companions Ansel, an intergalactic photographer from the planet Virtoos, and a knowledgeable Virtoosian robot named Clair. Both of these original animated characters were specially created for the touch screen. Together, Ansel and Clair are on a mission to take photographs and document their adventure so they can teach their fellow Virtoosians all about Jurassic dinosaurs. Ansel and Clair can’t do it alone, they need your help! Take photographs of the things you’ve learned about in the Jurassic period and arrange them in a travel log to document their Visit fossil dig site experience. That way, Ansel and Clair can share them with everyone when they return to Virtoos. Page 1 of 4 Excavate dinosaur bones Assemble dinosaur fossils But, wait! Before you embark on your Jurassic adventure, visit a modern day fossil dig site and meet Dr. Lindy Bones, a renowned paleontologist. As you explore the site, Dr. Bones shares details of how fossils are formed from dinosaurs. Dr. Bones also explains why dinosaur fossils are found only in certain types of rocks (do you know if these are sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic rocks?) Go back in time Interact with dinosaurs Who needs a time machine to go back to the Jurassic when you have Marley Peterson, Ansel and Clair's spaceship! All Marley needs is an object from the time period you want to travel to. Aha! You need to find a Jurassic fossil. Hang on for dear life as you go down a rickety old elevator shaft and roll up your sleeves to help Ansel and Clair dig for dinosaur fossils from the Jurassic period. Dr. Bones has graciously allowed you to borrow a fossil after you help him put the fossil pieces you find back together. Insert the fossil into Marley's time sensor and off you go to the Jurassic period. As you travel back in time, watch the polar icecaps disappear and present day continents as they morph into Jurassic Earth with Laurasia and Gondwanaland before you land. Page 2 of 4 Make your own dinosaur Solve jigsaw puzzles The whole Jurassic adventure is a seamless blend of education and entertainment. While the interactions are exciting, they are really geared towards teaching. Kids learn without even realizing it. Learn through Ansel's critical questioning and Clair’s encyclopedic knowledge. Why did the Apatosaurus swallow stones? Did modern birds evolve from the flying dinosaurs? Why were there more plant-‐eating dinosaurs than meat-‐eating dinosaurs? Were there polar ice caps during the Jurassic? How can you tell the age of a fossil? How do you know where to look for fossils? Why are you more likely to find fossils in sedimentary rocks and not in igneous or metamorphic rocks? Innovative Clairvision and pop-‐up images provide even more information for the curious. Take photograph of dinosaurs Collect pictures in travel log And have fun while learning. You can make your own dinosaur – choose the shape of the legs, body and face; decide the color of the dinosaur; give it your own name and email it to friends. You can drag Ansel on to the back of an Apatosaurus and watch him slide down. Make one of the earliest flying dinosaurs, Archaeopteryx, fly and catch a worm. Solve a jigsaw puzzle to assemble the pieces of the torn Allosaurus photo. Page 3 of 4 Just like Ansel and Clair’s Adventures in Africa, the 3 apps in the Dinosaur Trilogy truly take advantage of the iPad’s capabilities. Stunning graphics, exciting interactions, and immersive gameplay make for an experience that educates and entertains. “Ansel & Clair: Jurassic Dinosaurs” is sure to provide children and adults with hours of fun and education at the same time. Scientific Disclaimer As with all Ansel & Clair apps, Cognitive Kid spends significant time and effort researching the material. For the dinosaur series, the company reviewed over 100 books, articles and scientific publications. During its research, Cognitive Kid found significant differences in the information and facts. In situations of conflict, the company has relied on more scientific, more reliable and more recent sources of information. For example, the discussion about the first therapod (is it Eodromaeus, Eoraptor or Herrerasaurid?) is based on a scientific article published by one of the world’s most respected paleontologist in the prestigious journal “Science” in January 2011. While Cognitive Kid has spent significant effort verifying the facts, it is possible that some factual errors have crept into the app. Cognitive Kid apologizes for these mistakes. If you do find something that is not accurate, please let us know at [email protected]. We will update the app to fix these inaccuracies.
