Undergraduate Laws Programme For over 100 years, a law degree from the University of London has been the first step in the careers of thousands of lawyers worldwide. Study for a University of London degree in Pakistan Postgraduate Laws Programme The Postgraduate Laws Programme is directed by the law schools at UCL and Queen Mary, which are ranked 11th and 45th respectively in the world for law (QS World Rankings 2015). The programme offers a wide choice of courses and more than 30 specialisations. You can study for a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or Master of Laws (LLM). MSc Professional Accountancy This master’s programme enables you to gain an MSc degree and your Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional accountancy qualification at the same time. Compared with the cost of studying for an accountancy qualification and a master’s separately, this will save time and money for ACCA students. ACCA affiliates and members can gain this master’s by studying one module and a project, complementing their professional qualification. The UCL School of Management provides academic input to the degree. International Foundation Programme (IFP) The IFP is equivalent in standard to A levels in a UK school, and has been designed to prepare you for undergraduate study. Successful completion of the programme gives you guaranteed entry to most undergraduate programmes offered through the University of London International Programmes, and also meets the entry criteria for many other universities. The IFP must be studied at a recognised teaching institution (see pages 16-17 for a list). Arooj Aziz LLB (Hons), 2010, and LLM, 2014 ‘Having completed my LLB from UoL, I knew an LLM from the same university would be a good option. The programme was structured in such a way that it always challenged my thought process and gave me a better perspective on international law. This degree helped me to get a job as a lecturer in a local university where I teach Bachelor of Laws.’ After completing her LLB, Arooj worked in a law firm for two years before enrolling for the LLM to pursue a career in academia. Khawaja Hussam Ud Din Roomi BSc (Hons) Business Administration, 2014 ‘I chose this University of London degree because it is from one of the world’s most prestigious universities, and I could study the BSc Business Administration in Pakistan. High Court licence Master of Laws (LLM) graduates are able to apply for a High Court licence straight away, bypassing the usual requirement of serving two years in the lower courts. Shadha Zawawi Our degrees are recognised and respected internationally, as well as in Pakistan. HEC recognition BSc and master’s degrees from the University of London International Programmes are recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) as being equivalent to the corresponding degrees from Pakistan. A Qualifying Law Degree The University of London Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is recognised for entry into the legal profession in England, Wales and in other jurisdictions, provided you study 8 LLB (Hons), 2011 ‘I embarked on the laws programme whilst I was working full-time as a teacher in Karachi. This means that if you pass the required combination of courses on your degree, you will be able gain your professional accreditation more quickly. -Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) -Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) -Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) -Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS) -CPA Australia A gateway to postgraduate study University of London graduates have gone on to master’s and PhD level studies at some of the world’s best universities. Study at an institution or study independently In Pakistan, you can study with a local teaching institution that supports our programmes. For even greater flexibility, you can study independently. A list of teaching institutions is on page 16. Study support from the University of London All our students have access to study materials that draw on the cutting-edge research of the Colleges of the University of London. This includes a range of printed and online resources, such as subject guides, a Virtual Learning Environment, and an online library. 12 Student life at teaching institutions Teaching institutions offer lectures and seminars which help you to structure your studies. They also offer a range of facilities, services and activities to make your study experience both enjoyable and enriching. This can include libraries, computer labs, internship programmes, careers guidance, sports teams and extra-curricular activities. Flexible study periods You don’t need to put your life on hold to study. You can study fulltime and complete your degree in three years, or you can space your study around your work and family commitments. If you travel you can take your studies with you. Local exams The Colleges of the University of London are responsible for setting and marking exams. However, you do not need to come to London to take exams – you can take your exams at exam centres in six cities across Pakistan. These are awarded to the top five Undergraduate Laws students and the top five students on Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences programmes after their first year of study with the University. The final parchment includes the University of London logo and signature of the Vice-Chancellor, and indicates which University of London College conducted your examinations. Graduation ceremony in London or Pakistan You may attend the University of London International Programmes graduation ceremony in London. This is usually held in March and presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, or Chancellor, HRH The Princess Royal. If you attend a teaching institution, you also have the option of attending your institution’s graduation ceremony in Pakistan. These ceremonies are often attended by senior academic staff from the University of London.
