WELF Dalton, Georgia Report for June 2015
WELF Dalton, Georgia Report for June 2015 WELF’s recent local Praise the Lord program featured host Cody McCarver. Cody welcomed Karen Miracle from the Women’s Enrichment Center of Dalton, who gave her exciting testimony. Karen realized she had post-traumatic stress symptoms after signing up as a volunteer at the center to help women who had chosen to abort and were suffering under an extreme amount of guilt. She told of how God brought her to healing in her process of helping others. Cody also spoke with Tommy Watson and Richard Moss, local pastors of the fastest growing church in the area — the Cowboy Church. Here congregants meet at a horse arena in an open pole barn for praise, worship, and teaching each Sunday. Tommy discussed the need for the church to come to the barn to reach the un-reached. Tommy and Richard are professional rodeo clowns, and they discussed their outreach to children with cancer at a local hospital. Each quarter this ministry selects the neediest clients who are pet owners to receive free veterinary care for their pets. Local nonprofit organizations donate pet food, vaccines, medications, pet bedding, and leashes. TBN volunteered to assist the veterinarian administer vaccine and medication to the pets. See the photos below! The Joy in Our Town health segment this month focused on what is new on the allergy forefront. Dr. Susan Raschal discussed the newest allergies and educated viewers on new modalities of treatment. One of the latest is a virus that ticks pass on to humans, which causes an allergic reaction to meat. This happens to be incurable right now, but scientists are doing research for management of this disease. Pictured below Joy in Our Town host Tiki Findlayson with Dr. Susan Raschal. Another Joy in Our Town health segment this month focused on the problem of animal control in the city of Chattanooga, Tennessee. We had a particularly warm spring this year, which made the feral cat population explode. Retired folks are stepping up to the plate and coming alongside the city animal shelter to help with the organization C.A.T.S. (Cats Are Totally Special) by fostering and helping capture feral cats and bringing them to veterinary clinics for sterilization. While some cats are adoptable and they are fostered, the majority of feral cats are ineligible. Mrs. Lewis brought some adoptable kittens for viewers to see — and hopefully inspire someone to adopt. This organization connects resources in three surrounding North Georgia communities to assist low income families. TBN assists with leadership of the Benevolence Task Force, which partners with faith-based organizations and local businesses to ascertain and meet the needs of community members who fall through the cracks for public assistance. This month’s meeting invited the director of Hospice of Chattanooga for an educational talk on how hospice helps people as they face the end of life. May was National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Trenton chapter of Dade Family Collaborative offered special training to professionals working in churches and schools with youth to spot child abuse. TBN participated in the local event, “Stewards of Children Training,” led by the nonprofit organization Darkness to Light. Our local Praise-a-Thon continues on a bimonthly basis. We are so grateful for this opportunity to take up a local offering for our TBN Chattanooga station.
