It is often faster if I just use my laptop's built in HSPA connection. It can be very slow Increased bandwidth where possible, can be slow during peak periods I didn't know there was a WLAN Did not know about USQ WLAN No I'm an external student - not applicable NA Printing Being able to print to the Library printers form your own device Better connection and faster downloads. I would just like to be given the information to access it. Residential College Internet access is very poor, needs improvement. Cloud! i.e. Google Drive, Skydrive, Dropbox etc Android connectivity! Options to get a larger quota (i.e. being able to pay for more internet rather than the 1 GB of data available). Some courses require heavy internet usage (such as the film degrees, to study online video tutorials etc.) and the 1 GB gets used very quickl Unblock sites perhaps, I'm not sure if a lot is blocked but I'm never granted access to the internet via USQ wifi A better user interface. I would like to be able to acces full internet in the Arts blocks. Q2 and all of A block. The coverage there is shocking. Wider and stronger coverage across the Toowoomba campus. I have a Microsoft Surface, I bought this product to use at uni however I am unable to connect to the internet at the University. I contacted the IT department and there response was if I wanted to leave the device with them for 2 weeks they might be abl Not really I don't use it (sorry) so I don't know. An increased internet quota: considering most USQ courses are including increasingly larger amount of videos that students much watch, the quota is insufficient, and by the time students have completed the required course videos, there is not enough of th Connection that allows you to update important programs such as anti virus, especially when living on college. I was just wondering if it is possible to access the USQ WLAN on a samsung galaxy ace plus? I would really like to be able to connect my android tablet to the USQ WLAN as it is easier to transport. An easier process for connection, for those people who are not as I.T savvy. It would be so much easier if android tablets could connect, I feel very left out. Even if they can only go on websites with 'usq' in them it would make a hell of a difference I can't access anything on the WLAN on my iPhone except for Uconnect. I would like to be able to access my emails, banking, google etc. A more compatible WLAN service with newer tablets. Anyone with new tablets are all having the same issue that they don't recognize or are not compatible with the USQ proxy's. NOT APPLICABLE I am a off-campus student therefore I do not use the USQ WLAN. I had trouble working our how to connect my laptop to the USQ WLAN. I went to the ICT service desk under the library and picked up a brochure. Once I realised it worked better with internet explorer it was easy. (I normally use Firefox). Auto login for current student. Not that I can think of at the moment. Better connection no I have never use the USQ WLAN Easy Access to websites, specifically not requiring multiple log On No there are no additional services. Faster speed, greater availability and increased compatibility with devices no Printing to USQ printers from personal laptops Better connectivity to Eduroam for research students. Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 17 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 Assist students if unable to access internet on devices borrowed from library such as iPad and android tablets. am an online studnet think wlan is my connection with USQ More coverage on the Fraser Coast Campus NA It is hard to connect to USQ WLAN and it does not always work. Internet access is very limited. Having the ability to better coverage, and easier access Are there any other things you would like to tell us about in relation to the USQ WLAN? It is all pretty good, I have marked neutral because I know that depending on the building your in sometimes you get low signal on the wlan which makes things incredibly slow. Able to print using the WLAN Staff are always available and give friendly service and helpful advice Simply that as an student that only has to be on campus for certain activities I was not even aware of the USQ WLAN being available so while I often had Ipad and laptop on campus I would be using my own internet. Maybe better information could be supplied about it being there I only seem to be able to access the USQ site and nothing else. Makes it hard to do research from my own device. I am studying education and most of the rooms have terrible coverage of the WLAN. Also the pages take so long to load that they normally time out. I have tried changing the proxy, but normally resort to setting up a hotspot through my mobile phone. It is hit and miss with macbooks... sometimes it just fails to connect. My friend also has a macbook and we have the same problem. Very happy with the service. I have not encountered any problems. No I'm an external student - not applicable It is very slow and unreliable NA I prefer to use my own mobile wireless internet as the USQ is too slow It is very slow Don't make us reinstall the program every time we change passwords It would be helpful if the USQ WLAN was faster. Some days it is easier to just use my cellular data which isn't good as it is a service that students need to be able to rely on. Greater range for the Wifi Signal - for studying in nearby parklands (Robelle Domain) and outside the main buildings Some more instructions would be great, there is none for android and I can not find out how to connect my tablet to usq secure though I have no issues with this on my laptop. making it available to windows RT users. I have a table (windows RT) and it will not connect to the network as it can not download the client needed as it is not supported by windows RT I have heard that it is not compatible with android tablets or devices, An app for the USQ is overdue please (May not apply here anyway). It is hard to connect in a variety of rooms on the springfield campus The service is extremely slow, so as a result I don't use it. I log onto a computer in a computer lab instead. We were told as students to start bringing our mobile devices such as lpad or laptop, it was frustrating as hell when we could not connect or it was slow or dropping in and constantly. Quite a few times the computers in the labs were slow to load have been unable to connect on my laptop, assistance has been unavailable, i am always redirected to a brochure and after 2 years following the brochure instructions i am still unable to connect. I find this questionnaire biased in that it doesn't truly find out what my opinion is of ICT Services. In regard to this question I'm not happy that the internet routers were taken from the student accommodation at Springfield, but I understand as to why. That said, I think that it's unfair to provide it in the first place, and then take it away for no other reason than 'it was old and needed to be upgraded and that wasn't something we wanted to invest in'. Most of the students who live on campus do so because it is all they can afford, and while the USQ WLAN had it's issues, now these students are having to fork out more money to spend on mobile internet hotspots (the one I bought cost me $120 and that's not including credit) or invest in internet plans that we cannot afford. I think that if the university is going to provide internet to it's students in the first place to nurture their studying (wherever or however they do it), it should be an ongoing factor of on-campus life and it should be maintained. How can 'U' connect without the means to do so? In a university that prides itself on it's prestigious Online Learning, quality internet access is must, especially on campus. The fact that it isn't is a bit of a letdown. When I connect my iPhone to usq Wireless internet it has never worked for me, indicate that im connected but never allows me access to the internet in any way. Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 18 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 Increase the speed at which the network runs. The network can only support a few people with fast internet as the day progresses the connection becomes very slow to the point that it becomes very annoying. Make it available to Samsung devices Connection Dropouts are a major nuisance. Also the residential colleges, while on-campus have dismal reception It all works fairly well however there is a lack of knowledge available to the general university public and i believe there should be a easier way to find this information. For example an email to all new students informing them of the system and how to use it, and a easy to access link on UConnect. Can we please get faster internet. Skype capability, and maybe more internet download. As an external student I am rarely on campus however when I have been on campus I have been unable to used the USQ WLAN, I have no idea how to log into it. I am by no means technologically challenged so if I can't figure it out I am sure there are others who can't, therefore ease of use isn't that great as I have no idea what I even need to enter to get connected? should it be student number or something? this should be advertised better. I find it difficult to get a good connection while in the most appropriate areas for use - namely classrooms. Many websites also time out frequently or fail to load in these areas even when I manage to find a good connection. even though I rarely connect to it I have on occasion used my devices depending on which one I've had with me, It is good to use to access course information. I am unable to assess WLAN on my Toshiba lap top on campus It has a potential to be excruciatingly slow (though not as much as it used to be a few months ago- thank-you for fixing that up!!), and there are certain sites that are hard to access and require at least 3 re-tries to get them loaded, such as internet banking sites and counselling sites such as youthbeyondblue.com, for example. I rarely used it as I was an off campus student. Sometimes I would come to campus for residential school, or to use the library. At these times I would use the WLAN. Helpful esp. living on college, only thing is there is a dead spot in my room for USQWLAN but thats alright :P Have a lovely day I would really like to be able to connect my android tablet to the USQ WLAN as it is easier to transport. I find it difficult to log into the Wireless network. It could just be me or my phone. The connectivity doesn't drop out and it is well maintained. The network can often drop out at the Springfield Campus without having moved the device. doesn't always work in lecture/class rooms Covergae could improve and there should be more general use websites that are allowed. StudyDesk is the only thing I can access on my tablet. No search engines. I can't even access my emails, which was half the reason I bought a tablet. The instruction booklet was fantastic and easy to follow, and I did everything that it asked, but the proxy settings are not compatible. My tablet is only new, and any of my friends with tablets from this year also have this problem. If you could figure out a way for us to be able to access the general internet, a lot of students would be very happy. NOT APPLICABLE I did not know that this USQ WLAN was available. I have been an external student for two years, this semester I am attending my first on-campus subject and last semester I attended residential school. I will need to look into this more as this would be helpful. I am a off-campus student therefore I do not use the USQ WLAN. way too slow All good. I find it difficult to access the WLAN service on my android phone. Is there a way to make it easier to access? Never used USQ WLAN I have only used it a few times, but both times it kept dropping out. i was told that the version of my android was too low to use the USQ WLAN. A more coverage would make the access more effective Sometimes i can't even get on the network. the wireless network at the fraser coast campus is very slow and sometimes doesnt work at all. at different times of the day the network is fine and other is take a long time period to load. study desk takes the longest to load. it is difficult to log in too, when using a laptop or Iphone. I cannot connect my iPhone to the USQ WLAN sometimes, and when I do, it tends to be very slow. I have no issues with it on my laptop. Not very reliable, it can drop out occasionally and be very slow on other occasions. I haven't been able to connect to the USQ WLAN with my mobile phone. When trying to connect your own device to USQ WLAN, sometimes it won't connect and sometimes, it will but have limited connection and is very slow. This is why I just use the Computer Labs instead of bringing in my laptop. It often drops out in certain back study areas of the library. coverage is too short and you have to reinstall the software every semester. In some Lecture Rooms (A3LR4) it is hard to connect to the WLAN, particularly from iPhones. Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 19 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 it connects but then doesn't browse or is very slow in places The wifi network runs quite slowly at times and it would be great if the speed could be improved somehow. I will attempt to use it It is sometimes hard to get a strong connection, or connection drops out, especially on smart phones. Its hard to gauge on the survey based on disagree exactly what is wrong with the service. It has a good coverage and is easy to access the WLAN, but due to the speed it is quite hard to connect to services using it. The main problem with that is I also don't get a great network coverage using my mobile, so if i need to access information while on campus without having to leave the lecture and run to the labs, it makes it difficult. USQ wireless is terrible when you want to use it on your smartphone or laptop. It only works better on university website and computers. It is very slow when connecting to your mobile phone I am an external student and have not utilised these services but am extremely happy with the services available as an external student. There isn't any reception in some rooms on the residential colleges. NA I had difficulty connecting to the network. when approaching itc at hervey bay I did not find the girl willing to help she repeatedly sent me away even though I had explained to her I didn't understand how to connect it. Eventually the librarian asked her to help me and she did but was not helpful at all. Wireless names should be area specific so that we can guess wireless strength. To connect to wireless is not easy task eventhough it is one time. N/A I use the internet for the following Social Media Nil USQ forums Email hotmail account Pinterest, Tumblr none Edublogs Annoying when the labs were full and I could not get on a computer while others were looking at facebook Do not use. Also being more up to date with knowledge about the new operating systems, eg. Windows 8. support Android devices, advertise services and info links on usq web site better (email); NA There have been a couple of issues since I started studying this time around where there has been some technical difficulties either restricting access to the library or not allowing logging in to uConnect. These types of problems seem destined to occur over the weekends. It would be good to have some sort of system where problems of this nature can be reported by students. To avoid multiple reports, a list of known issues could be supplied on the report page, or students could click on a Managing the printers, afterhours support Operating hours, though I recognise the benefit may be outweighed by the cost. N/A Study desk availability Email digest reliability As an online student: weekend assistance would be helpful there really needs to be a feedback link for compliments to thank staff, currently the email asks for noreply and this a missed opportunity for a positive communication N/A Not well understood in general supplying information about what they offer eg I didnt know bout USQ WLAN Timing of maintenance of study desk. Saturdays are my main study day so I lose 2-3 days per semester Better location Internet accessibility perhaps explaining better how they have resolved my issues I not sure they can from my perspective. for international students with different time zones, it would be great to access this service and have an answer outside working hours. my experience has always been satisfactory On campus - lecturers have a lot of problems with technology especially you tube clips, etc that they want us to watch and learn from.. You can see the lecturer getting frustrated... Sometimes they are reluctant to call ICT dept... I think ICT is effective as is In the WLAN coverage and speed across the campus. Bandwidth during peak periods UConnect can sometimes be too difficult to navigate, most of the time I find I'm using the I think the ICT service has been very up and down. It has not been reliable, logging on each time I never know if I will actually be able to access what I need to, be able to log in and navigate around. This is unrelated to staff but more related to the actual service over the internet reliability. I have also had some problems with different subjects using different programs to upload media and lectures, creating problems then accessing lectures in a timely manner.More uniformity in how lectures are loaded to the study desk would be helpful. I study via distance so miss out a great deal if I cannot access over the internet what I need to. I have found the weekends to be the most unreliable times to use the USQ site, the weekends are my primary study time and it has impacted on my study schedule. After hours service to distance educaiton students would be good Easy contacts for after hours in case of service downtime, weekends, public holidays. Can't contact anyone=bloody joke. Nothing, they met my needs I'm not sure whether ICT have anything to do with printing, but the printers esp at the library are always having problems and this is really inconvenient. Not sure. Answering or even acknowledgement of receipt of e-mails. Hours of operation It is going fine for me. Maybe more tutorials available on the website, as I always check a website for information before contacting someone. USQ internet services via smartphone apps. The current system is slow and limited. it would be better if you could access personal information ie Exams information. More priority on faster internet, especially in the quad area. Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 28 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 No need to mention it really, because I am sure you are aware, but the linkages between the Library and DocEx needs to be sorted out. Not taking a whole day, especially a weekend day for maitenance, being unable to access study desk etc for a whole day on a weekend, as a external student who works full time, is very inconvienent. Nothing in particular. Have more basic FAQ/ trouble shooting pages on USQ website would be useful. I'm an external student - not applicable slow computers and internet, can never access wireless connection on laptop, Fix problems correctly sometimes international students require support after hours After hours service, chat help. nothing MORE WLN coverge, easy access to by phones It would be good if you automatically logged in to your email account when you signed in. I've never had an issue with them. Letting students know what services it provides Publicise their services better Toowoomba Campus- the time that the ICT desk is manned, longer hours instead of having to call and wait. Patience with people, language used to communicate with people, improvement on the time they conduct updates, improvement on the communication when printers will be maintained, better knowledge with different computers and how to connect to the internet. in happy with the service longer hours Not applicable, have not had any issues in 3 years. Highlight the offer on anti virus to students for use on their computers. Answering the phones (being available) Live video feeds with Toowoomba nearly always failed, needs fixing since some of our lecturers are incapable of presenting themselves and sends students home when live feed fails The process to get endnote and ms project installed on your own computer is too complicated with the forms too far embedded within the intranet. having access to help over holidays and weekends Timing and explanation Access for online students..maybe a FAQ page? Residential Colleges internet. Nil Communication skills and being more understanding of student needs. I don't use the service all that often, what i've needed help with the service has been great, very friendly and understanding. Updating network and contacting back if an error has occured. Had an issue with windows 8 not working provided email address for updates on expected completion 3 weeks had passed still no internet and no contact from ICT about the problem. However recently ICT has improved and are starting to provide better services. Customer Service relating to internet issues. Some problems do not require a browser reset and proxy setting adjustment. They could improve there relationship with the specific faculty instead of just the students as they are a service that all of the university depends on. Faster internet everywhere Great WLAN coverage Access to H Drive via WLAN (secure connection) The timing of website shutdowns for maintenance tends to be during weekends which doesn't suit those of us who are studying part time externally who only have time to do study and research on weekends. Shutdowns also seem to be whenever assignments are due can these periods be altered to non peak times for scheduled maintenance or during the night? Increase bandwith Internet on the colleges, it is appalling and living there full time makes it extremely hard to study. It takes minutes just to access studydesk. See below. RESPONSE TIME, HELPFULLNESS AND MANNERS!!!! Being more helpful Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 29 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 I can't think of any improvements. Having at least one evening or weekend day available for those who study online and find it hard to contact ict during working hours Unsure The operating hours are highly unsatisfactory, given that most external students will choose to study on weekends and public holidays, IT personnel need to be available during these hours also. On countless occasions I have been unable to access the study desk on public holidays, due to a high level of usage. An easier way to jump to sites without entering the password all the time. More information to external students that occasionally attend a campus - ie I am unsure where to find the service desk/help or how to log in to the computers to check emails etc Nothing I can think of, sorry. Being more fast at responding to student's requests for help!! They could do this by hiring more help staff. N/A When software upgrades for online tutorial spaces (e.g. Blackboard etc.) are upgraded. Not much, I think they're doing a great job. Improve the Stanthorpe student center by enabling students to use the campus for learning and studying purposes, enable a dedicated center for technology to increase enrollments. Currently on laptops in a wine lab shared by professionals and wine students, basically a waste of time when trying to study. Not sure, I don't know my way around campus well. Don't know how to locate ICT. Perhaps I would use if I knew what they do and how to find n/a availability of staff any time Make the online services a bit more efficient- especially considering I am doing an online course there do seem to be times when nothing works well There seems to be many outages of the Uconnect website which cause problems for external students in particular. That would be amazing!! Better Eduroam support for researchers and Android support too Nil I do not have much to do with ICT as I am a distance student. Support on weekends. Expanding the current services to tablets through application More wifi coverage System drop outs Its all good so far. They need to understand that no everyone knows how to use a computer and be more considerate of this. Students are there to learn not waste time trying to do things they don't understand, ITC should be available to help install things like end note and connection to the wireless internet on campus for those who are not able to figure it out on our own, and this should be done without criticism and judgement on our ability to be a student. Support when there is problem. Staff should be proactive to provide support. There will be board in weekends. I am happy with the service provided No. Not something I use in person very much, more likely to communicate via email or searching for the information I need on the USQ website. I'm an external student - not applicable Failures in ITC caused me to drop out this Semester. It was a stressful experience. I have also seen others struggle and give up. The way the study desk is set up is not consistent, different Lectures do their own things. and its all (Studydesk) an over the ICT staff are responsive and friendly no NA N/A No thanks A personnel should be located at most lecture theaters as majority of the teachers are unsure on how to use the equipments therefore taking longer to conduct class. When the ICT Service Desk fixed an issue with my account they sent the message and new password to my UMail account. As I had sent the email from UMail, I couldn't access UMail once this occurred; as the new password to login to UMail was sent to UMail I have been very impressed with the service so far, absolutely superior to my experience at QUT It is good that the guys refresh or reset the students (uni) computers for every restart. That serves and protect each user's private files. As long as I can access study desk from home and can get a computer when on campus (which is rarely) I am happy. No No My mobile wifi access to USQ internet never works, never has indicates that im connected to wifi but won't allow access to the internet. nope You're doing a great job - keep up the good work. They are doing a good job I honestly enjoy getting help from ICT Toowoomba because they do such a good job. :) No not at this time more feedback on current viruses and free software for students to use. No, not really. Given I spent two days this week on campus researching course study and am unable to return until Monday when my quota resets, the 1GB provided is inadequate to say the least. I have always had such lovely dealings with the staff. They have truly been very supportive and pleasant to speak to. no thank you for helping me :) No, that's all. they are so wonderful and helpful No ITS GOOD I'm not sure if IT can do anything about this, but I do find that I can't access some lectures, or journal articles because the I-pad does not support the for,at they are presented in. Perhaps the journals are a long shot, but lecture recording form I am an overseas student who sometimes finds it difficult to download course content through USQ website due to bandwidth limitations and poor Internet stability. Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 41 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 It is mostly great but the bad experience I had being told to Google, really did distress me at the time. I have not contacted ICT since actually. Now I Google it. N/A No. No n/a all good No thank you. Earlier this year I was told by ICT staff to contact ICT to report a problem with printer access in room TA110, as there was no working printer in the room. I was chastised by a CAIK staff member about contacting ICT in regards to the printer issue. At th I called to find out about the windows office student edition free software but ICT informed me about it but failed to explain where to get it. A link would be great From experience with other university ICT I feel USQ provides a world class system. I don't have anything else to offer. no they are good I am satisfied with the location and service they provide in Toowoomba n/a ICT does not believe Blackboard has problems - which it does. ICT advise using outdated virus software that has dubious reviews on the internet, and recomends I remove my latest up to date virus protection software I paid good money for and have never ha No, sorry. No Nil I have only ever had one issue - As part of a Maths assignment, I had to upload a file from my camera to Youtube and then attach the Youtube address to my assignment on Mahara. I thought I had done this right (considering I had never done this before let I am unsure about the full range of services that they provide to students. no thankyou I found some ICT staff with limited knowledge which is just my opinion and experience with the staff. Staff should not just give up if they are not sure about anything and must contact their senior to solve student's query. I have had nothing but good service at the Faser Coast Campus Try to change the design of the student panel on ConnectUQ. n/a No USQ ICT Policy and Resources - Acceptable Use, Antivirus Solution Have my own computer security software I appreciate the availability of the antivirus solution but already have an extensive system in place. I felt the information sent to me (from the university as a whole) when I commenced was very minimalistic, I would have Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 42 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 appreciated a lot more info from all depts. especially about how to set everything up and basic use (as an external student this is rea I had no idea there was a provided antivirus Kindly highlight the reliability of your antivirus software. Same n/a Only just starting course so have not have any great issues yet. Information provided about ICT Maintenance, Web Pages and UConnect I read the comments on study desk. NA N/A Thank you for providing these services. Only knew about maintenance days when I received an email which was good These are good but could use a better amount of advertising so that all students can find them easily The minimum recommended computer and software requirements suit most courses well. However, in some courses such as creative media courses, these recommendations are of very little benefit as many of these subjects require use of the mac computer lab for some are blank as I find some questions not applicable What are 'ICT Web Pages'? Is that like UConnect and the Study Desk? If so, then I have used them haha. The maintenance calendar seems quite hard to find, I have never heard of it. It does seem to come at some uncomfortable times, which can make it hard to do study at crucial periods. Well communicated on study desk Didn't know there was webpages or maintenance calandars. Print Date: 21/10/2013 Page 43 of 45 ICT Student Satisfaction Survey Results - 2013 posting the maintenance days on the study desk is a very good idea. it keeps the students informed and we know when not to go on campus to complete study.
