The pilot will be administered in Grades 4 and 8. In preparation for this pilot, online practice items are being provided to participating school districts via Pearson’s ePAT (electronic practice assessment tool). The items available in the practice test are a combination of sample test items and previously released ISAT items. These practice items are not intended to be a complete test, nor are they intended to cover all ISAT content administered on the statewide assessment. Practice items will be made available via TestNav™, the online testing software used in the online pilot. These practice items allow students to become familiar with the online item format and functionality within the TestNav environment. Practice items also provide students the opportunity to use the tools available in TestNav. Because this is a practice environment, the practice items will not be scored in TestNav, and therefore the correct answers are not provided. This ePAT user guide may be used by teachers or other adults to direct students through the process of accessing the practice test items and also provide some helpful information on functionality within TestNav. The information in this guide will also help students navigate the test including the use of available tools and navigation functionality. Prior to guiding students through the practice items, please read this practice item guide. You may also wish to access the practice test to become familiar with the TestNav environment and practice items. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR TESTNAV The minimum hardware requirements for all workstations used to access TestNav are available at http://www.pearsononlinetesting.com/Illinois. Illinois ISAT Pilot ePAT Guide |4 ITEM TYPES Practice items include: • • Multiple Choice Open Ended (Short Response or Extended Response) Multiple Choice These items are like a traditional multiple-choice item where only one answer option can be selected. The mouse is utilized to select an answer by clicking on a radio button next to the desired answer option. Open Ended There are two types of open ended items contained in the ISAT operational assessment. Both item types are contained in the practice test. One type is a short response and the other is an extended response. Some open ended items require students to input characters from the keyboard only (numbers, letters, or symbols) to answer the question. For this item type, the student responds to a question by typing into a blank box provided in the item. Some open ended math items also ask a student to “show your work”. On these items, in addition to the keyboard, a student may also utilize the pencil tool to answer. Depending on the math item, the response area may also contain equations or math symbols that can be selected. Students should follow the directions in each of the open ended items and respond accordingly.
