Transfer Admissions Requirements
Undergraduate applicants seeking admission to the University of Houston-Clear Lake as degree-seeking students
must have the following requirements:
Semester Credit
Hours
Grade Point Average (GPA)
0-29 hours
30-44 hours
Must meet freshman admissions
criteria
2.25
45+ hours
2.00
All grades earned from college-level courses, including repeated courses, are used in computing the grade
point average (GPA). All courses accepted must be from regionally accredited U.S. institutions.
Also, plus and minus grades are not used to determine the cumulative GPA for undergraduate applicants (e.g.
“C-“, “B-,” etc). Remedial or developmental course work is not used in the calculation of transfer GPA.
Applicants who already have an Associate Degree:
1. You must have an Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching or Associate of Science from a
regionally accredited school+
2. Have eligibility to return immediately to the last college/university attended.
+Students who attended another accredited institution after earning an associate degree must have a cumulative
GPA of at least 2.0, or must go through the Admissions Appeal process.
New Transient Student Enrollment
Students enrolling at UHCL in transient status must have completed at least 30 semester credit hours and
must enroll as non-degree-seeking status for only one semester, generally to transfer coursework to another
institution (students enrolling in summer can enroll in both summer sessions). Transients are not eligible to
receive financial aid.
To be eligible, transient students must provide all documents required for admission prior to registration and
be eligible to return immediately to the last school attended. Those seeking to enroll in a second semester
must obtain permission from the associate dean of their academic program and must reapply by submitting a
new application and fee to the Office of Admissions. Transients who wish to become regular students at
UHCL must reapply and request degree-seeking status by submitting a new application and application fee to
the Office of Admissions.
Undergraduate transient students, who are not exempt from TSI, must sign a waiver form. This form is found
on the UHCL website.
Teacher Certification
Students can complete a teacher certification program with or without earning a graduate degree. Those who
have earned a bachelor's degree and who plan to complete undergraduate teacher certification, without
simultaneously enrolling in a graduate degree program, should enroll in post-baccalaureate status.
Post-baccalaureate Enrollment
Post-baccalaureate applicants (PB) have earned a bachelor's degree or higher and are seeking to enroll in
additional coursework at the undergraduate level. Applicants may enroll as degree-seeking or non-degreeseeking.
Degree-seeking PB applicants must submit transcripts from each institution attended and may not enroll in
graduate coursework, except under provisions that specifically authorize undergraduate enrollment in
graduate courses. PB applicants who apply as non-degree-seeking must submit a transcript from the last
school attended, as well as the school where their highest degree was earned.

How Does UHCL Calculate Your Transfer GPA?
Before calculating your GPA:
•
•
•
•
UHCL waits until we have your official transcripts from all institutions attended.
We check for the completion of at least 54 credit hours.
Developmental and non-college-level courses are excluded.
Courses you are taking now must have a final grade posted.
How your undergraduate transfer GPA is calculated:
•
•
•
We include all grades on all academic course work, including grades from repeated courses.
Developmental course are not calculated in the transfer GPA
Courses that are not completed cannot be calculated
We assign each letter grade a numeric value:
A+, A, and A- =4.0
B+, B, and B- =3.0
C+, C, and C- =2.0
D+, C, and D- =1.0
Less than a D- = 0
