Wakefield Regional Council
Citizen of the Year
Bart Butson
L-R; Jeff Sutton (nominator), Bart Butson, John
Halbert, Mayor Rodney Reid.
Bart Butson received the Wakefield
Regional Council Citizen of the Year award
for his contribution to the community as
chairperson of Marine Park 14 Action Group
efforts. Bart led the Action Group in the
fight for the community to change the
Government Sanctuary fishing zone within
Marine Park 14. Disappointingly the ‘no
take’ zone still came into effect in October
2014.
Congratulations to both Nancy and Bart,
champions of our community!

Sadly our Courthouse Museum has fallen into a
state of neglect.
The Port Wakefield Community Management
Committee (PWCMC) is seeking someone or a
group interested in volunteering some time to
generally clean, arrange displays and record items
in the Museum.
Although you would need to work in cooperation
with PWCMC who are responsible for the upkeep
and maintenance of the building, the committee is
looking for someone with creative ideas for
displaying the available information and who is
able to work with minimal supervision.
It would be great to have our Museum up and
running again and open to the public on a regular
basis.
If you are able to assist please contact
PWCMC Secretary, Bob Van Der Sman
88671102 or any committee member.

Telstra ADSL
Telstra Country Wide has upgraded our
exchange and have added a further 80 ports so
anyone wanting to get broadband can now get it.
Thanking Mr. John Tonkin (area manager) from
Countrywide for facilitating this project and
community members for their expressed interest
in additional ports in the Port Wakefield area as
this allowed John to use this as justification to
expand the number of ports at our exchange.
Regards Iain Payne
New Roof for Newsletter Office
At the last meeting of Wakefield Regional
Council members voted to transfer Wakefield
Regional Council Grant funding, allocated to
Port Wakefield Community Management
Committee for the painting of the interior of
the SM Hall, to replace the roof at the
Newsletter Office (Former Council
Chambers).
Due to issues and legal action pending re the
plasterwork at the SM Hall painting cannot be
undertaken at this time and so the Grant
funding will not be lost to Port Wakefield

Above & Right- Who do you recognise?
Port Wakefield Community Carols
On Sunday 21st of December we had Carols at the S.M Hall, many attended and braved the heat to enjoy singing
Christmas Carols together, being treated to some delightful items, a message from Mr David Woodroofe and some
even lucky enough to win a lucky door prize and then a yummy supper! Included this year was the announcements of the
Colouring In Competition and also a couple of games- of 'how many Jelly Beans in a Jar' and 'how long is this piece of
string game'. Congratulations to those winners, it certainly got people guessing and wondering! Once again the Giving
Tree proved to be a massive Blessing to those who will recieve the tooth brushes and socks that where donated. A big
THANKYOU must go to Lisa Studham for judging the colouring in competition(which proved to be harder than she
thought!) and also to the Chemist, Newsagent/ General Store and the Post Office here at Port Wakefield for your
generous donations towards the competition. Congratulations to all who entered and made the competition a success,
the prize winners were:
0-5 years section-1st-Lucy Mudge, 2nd-Chelsey Wenzel, 3rd-William Mudge.
6-9 years section- 1st-Jayden Mudge, 2nd-Megan Payne
10-13 years section- 1st-Caileigh Mudge, 2nd-Chloe Hean.
Lastly a massive THANKYOU to the COMMUNITY for attending this event and making it all worthwhile. To the Team
of people who help me to make the event a success with setting up, preparing supper and cleaning up, and To the
AWESOME Band for your wonderful Talents and sharing that with us.
THANKYOU AGAIN EVERYONE.

Medical Fitness to Drive Certificates
South Australia has removed the compulsory
annual assessment for car licence holders
aged 70 and older and who DO NOT have a
medical condition that could affect their ability
to drive.
This means that you WILL be asked to visit a
doctor and submit a Certificate of Fitness form
it you do HAVE a medical condition recorded
against your driver’s licence or you are 70
years and older and hold a class of licence
other than for a car.
You will no longer need to visit a doctor each
year to assess your fitness to drive if you are
aged 70 years and older, you only hold a car
(C class) driver’s licence and you DO NOT
have a medical condition recorded against your
licence.
A self assessment will be introduced MID 2015
to allow older drivers to assess their own
fitness to drive. From the age of 75, if you only
have a car licence and you DO NOT have a
medical condition, you will receive a self
assessment form in the mail to complete.
