The Simon Fraser University Men’s Hockey team is proud to call home to the
state-of-the-art Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby, BC. Over the next 12 months,
thousands of fans will visit the arena to cheer on the Clan as they host top university and
college opponents - and we’d like to expose them to your business as an official team
sponsor.
No matter your budget, the SFU Men’s Hockey program has a sponsorship option that’s

athletics to new and existing clients.

student athletes to SFU.

ABOUT SFU HOCKEY
OUR STORY
Clan Hockey was reistablished in 2003 with the creation of the ‘Hockey Club’ by a number of SFU
students eager to bring hockey back to the hill following a nearly 30 year hiatus since the
original varsity team competed in the 1970’s. In 2006, the Men’s club joined Trinity Western University, UVIC, UNBC, and UCFV in the formation of the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey
League (BCIHL). The BCIHL has continued to grow by adding new members such as Eastern Washington University, Thompson Rivers University, Okanagan College, and Selkirk College.
From 2009-2011 SFU Men’s Hockey enjoyed a number of significant milestones. The team would
for the first time offer scholarships to attract the top players from Junior hockey, as well as travel
to Alberta for the first time to play top-level ACAC teams in exhibition. Most notably however,
the establishment of the University Hockey Classic, an annual event pitting the SFU Men’s squad
against crosstown rival UBC Thunderbirds. The event inaugural event was a huge success with
over 1,600 passionate fans on hand to witness the new SFU team beat UBC in a two-game series.
With the quick growth of the organization, SFU Hockey would again raise the level of competition
in 2012. For the first time, SFU would compete against an NCAA Division 1 program in Air Force.
While SFU would fall to Air Force by a score of 8-3, it opened the door to NCAA Division 1
competition in Burnaby and would put SFU on the map among the best college teams in North
America.
In December of 2012, SFU Hockey established the Great Northwest Showcase, anevent hosted in
Burnaby to showcase top-level college hockey while promoting education as an important part
of an athlete’s career. The 2014 event was attenended by future NHL stars from top ranked NCAA
Division I University of North Dakota, and NCAA Division I Princeton University. UND would
defeat SFU 4-3 and go on to make the Frozen Four that season.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
With the growth of the team on the ice, SFU Hockey would also continue to develop as an
organization off the ice, entering into an official partnership with Burnaby Minor Hockey. Every
week, SFU players are on the ice with Burnaby Minor Hockey teams, helping to mentor and
develop the skills of our younger generation.
In addition, similar programs have taken shape within the Burnaby School District, as SFU
players travel to local elementary schools for mentorship, assisted learning, and gym programs in
the community each week. SFU Hockey also donates over 1,400 printed tickets to local schools
every week.
ABOUT BILL COPELAND SPORTS CENTRE
The Bill Copeland Sports Centre is Burnaby’s largest indoor sports facility with seating for over
2,000 spectators. Open year-round, the arena is the primary home to SFU Men’s Hockey team and
the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association, and draws over 130,000 patrons through its doors each
year. The arena is also home to Burnaby Speed Skating, Burnaby Figure Skating and the Burnaby
Lakers Junior and Senior lacrosse programs.

Rinkboard advertising at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre puts your brand front and
centre on a full-year basis, to be seen by thousands at SFU Men’s Hockey games and
many other winter and summer events hosted at Burnaby’s largest indoor sports
facility. While over 130,000 patrons visit the arena each year, your ad will also be seen
in countless SFU Hockey and Burnaby Minor Hockey photos and videos. A portion of
all proceeds benefit the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association.
